The beauty of barres is that there only are a few shapes to learn for several dozen chords.

I don't look at it as learning chords all over again but as learning different ways to play the same chord.

I'm pretty much of the school that thinks that acoustic sounds better with open chords. That's just a personal opinion. But of course there are times you just can't get away from barre chords. And sometimes it's easier to move from one chord to another if you use barres or a mixture of the two. For instance, I love to play Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong and in the key I play it in one of the chord progressions is F#m, G back to F#m. This is made so much easier by barring the G instead of barring the F#m then moving to open G and back to the barred F#m again.

I hope that all makes sense.

Ken and Alvee,

As a recipient of Old Doll's problems, maybe I should explain that comments were being sent to her MySpace Friends which was in fact an advert for a MySpace tracking system (to check who visits your site) and it came along with her photo as any normal comment would. It even displayed a picture of Tom (the face of MySpace) as though it was an approved accessory.

It appears that someone has taken information of Old Dolls MySpace Friends and her identity to send these comments. I am not a computer expert but if anyone has any practical advise to offer I am sure Old Doll will appreciate it. I am sure no one wants her to delete her MySpace.

Thank you,

Roger

Thanks for that Roger.  I was a but bamboosled about this. I have just registered with Facebook and something like this could be quite distressing. The mind bogles at what could be done in your name. Hopefully Old Doll can get something sorted.

Old Doll,

Your post has really concerned me. I am familiar with Youtube and Myspace but have never heard of this happening with them. I assume from your post that this happens quite often. A few friends of mine have Myspace sites and this makes me really nervous for them.

Jeez! The thought is making me feel sick.

Yeah! It's the price that puts me off trying them. What if I fork out the lolly and I don't like them.
Here you see my Scotch-ness coming out. Too tight fisted to try them.

Does anyone remember this TV series? I'd be very interested in hearing if anyone has a recording of the theme song, "I wish I knew". It was written by Carole King and performed by Melissa Manchester.
Does anyone know if this is available anywhere? Or is the show on DVD or video?

Thanks.

What is Gaun yersel! ?

Literally translated - Go on yourself!

Usually followed by something like Big Man, Wee Man or  Son or Hen if female.

Isn't language a wonderful thing.

This is where I feel guilty. I bought one of those string cleaning aids, "the swipe". Does a great job. But in the past few weeks i've been very lazy and never used it.

More fool me.

Hey hey

I was starting to get concerned about my baby over the past few days. I have been away for a week and on my return she had developed a slight buzz on the 1st string at the 3rd fret. Not a huge loud buzz but a worrying kinda background thing that was more noticeable when I played it hard.

I suffer from sweaty fingers and really need to change strings quite often. I had not changed them for 4 months and so thought I'd see if this would improve things any.

Amazing! Cured! Curse my sweaty fingers.

I just thought I'd share this with the folks on here just in case anyone else has experienced this.

However it does leave me with the problem of what to do prevent this and how to save money on strings. Any thoughts?

The way I use it is ............

If I transpose down 2 semitones then I put my capo on the 2nd fret.  Down 3 semitones - capo 3rd fret. I always try to transpose down for this reason.

Works for me.

I've tried Yankee whiskey, Irish whiskey and even Welsh whisky but I have never found anything that could beat Scotch whisky. So many!

And ......... it wasn't a try. Close call though. Without the TV judge it would've been given.

Song? Dunno. LOL

Old Doll.

Sorry Old Doll. Yeah it kinda had that effect on me. I'm glad to report that I've gotten over it quickly and am more than happy with the little ability I've got. As Zurf says, it's amazing to see how people are blessed. After an uplifting Sunday of my own I am happy to give thanks for the blessings I have in abundance around me.

Love and life,

Al

P.S. Did I see you on Facebook's Chordie Group?

I've been converted to Wedgies. They have like a wee impression on them for your thumb to sit in. Very comfortable to hold, less slip. I use 60's, I like just a little bend in my pick. Just a little though.
I used to have problems with how it sounded strumming with a pick but I discovered that it was down to how I was holding it.
Just one other thing. Try recording yourself strumming. I bet you don't sound as bad as you think.

Please forgive me but Simon & Patrick always seems like some confession written on a toilet wall. Only kidding.

My brother-in-law has one of these. Very nice.

Name? No idea.   lol

I just read.....nope, I never read it. I just saw how much dribble I typed last night.
I was going to delete it, but I think I will leave it on to teach people, especially the younger folk.
this is what drink can do. Best thing is not to drink and go on a computer into a chatroom or forum.
Best thing to do is to pick up a guitar and ignore the computer.
Write a song! some of my songs were wrote while under the influence and some of them you can tell.

I remember doing this last night and laughing at the same time with some parts, deliberatly not making sense wit hsome advide inbetween.

If I was someone else, I would not read it at all, it looks like half a book.

Ken

Thank God you kept it on. Gave me the best laugh I've had for ages. I'm guessing there was a fair old bit of single highland malt went into that. Wet myself reading it.

P.S. COME ON SCOTLAND! 3-1 Ya beauty!

I'm only guessing here, Old Doll, but I think this is quite common with all websites. Every now and then their server will "go down" as the geeks say which means peolpe can't access the site. Happens quite often with the site I help out with. If it happens too often I imagine Per will be pulling his hair out.
