Thanks Russ,  I'm gonna give it another try today. I think I had my input levels to high coming from my out of my pedal. I had not been using the monitor input feature.

Hey Russ, I have been playing with Audacity and was just wondering if you had some tips on where to set mic levels and gains and such. I did a three track recording using a shure condensor mic right into my computer and it seems like I have some hiss that shouldn't be there.
What a nice program tho, I have been messin with it for a couple of days it sure beats my old tascam portastudio.

Anytime Chet is mentioned I think of Jerry Reed also. I think Jerry's clownin around distracted from how great a guitar player he was somewhat but he could hold his own with anyone.

Welcome to Chordie Steve,

First off I would like to come to Jerome's defense, he has posted some very useful info, and has been there to answer questions as long as I can remember being here on chordie. I do think if I called you an expert everything would be cool but it's a little different refering to one's self. That seems to have gotten alot attention. I think if your intentions are good everything will be cool.

Great line Benson, when I look back, I think I get better on ocassion also!

Thanks,  But I think it is in the camera It has an external mic input and that works ok with a mic plugged in. When I unplug the mic it will not switch back to the internal mic.

That's pretty much what I see to Pix, I think somewhere from $300 -$800 is more realistic. Depending on condition.

Huge improvement, I know at times a guy would like to take off and shred the neck, but phrasing is a big thing in lead playing.

Good Job!

I don't know if this will help but most Prine songs are in 4/4 timing  and that means 4 beats per measure. On from there you will need to use your thumb on the 1 beat and the 3 beat and your fingers do the 2 and 4 beats. This means your thumb has to alternate between beats.
Your thumb is alternating between beats and instead of hitting the same note with your thumb alternate between the top 2 bass notes of each chord with your thumb.
If you get your thumb working you can use your index finger between the beats or use thumb, index, thumb, middle.
John usually just uses his thumb and index.
When I started I just fretted a D chord and never worried about any chord changes and just worked on the pattern I wanted to get down. After a few hours you will get it then its on to chord changes.

Yeh, Russ I was so bummed out about the audio on my vid camera, but it was such a wonderful weekend. Things couldn't have been much better, including the weather was just beautiful all weekend and the entertainment was topnotch. I am dragging tail today too much fun for this old guy I guess. Now I have to start practicing up for next year!

Yes it's a nice song to play on acoustic Pete Plays it all alone and does a great job, there are several versions of the song here on chordie.

Well we made it back from the Bighorn Mountain Festival and had a wonderful time. We took a lot of videos and didn't take too many pics and got home and to my despair the audio did not work on my vids, nothing but dead silence. So I decided to use the pics I did have and do a slide show with a song by Anne and Pete Sibley , Wayfaring Stranger .  We watched them perform this song live twice over the weekend and it is better live than the cd.
There was a band scramble and a couple of our friends participated and won first place. I had some great vids of my friends Will and Anne but without the audio it is a shame. She is a sweetheart. I jammed alot and come through just about every song without messing up too bad or forgetting any lyrics.
We had a pleasant surprise when a young fella about 16 yrs old stop by and wanted to jam. I told him I wasn't the greatest at bluegrass and I took off with Pink Floyd " Wish You Were Here" the reason I went this direction was his tye dyed Pink Floyd T-shirt. We were all over that one and I went to Hotel California and he just about ripped the neck off his git. Then I started playin Muddy Waters
"Got my Mojo Workin"  and holy crap the kid went nuts , he went in to a blues song I didnt know but I tried like heck to keep up.He finished up and said he had to move on and Liz and Shelly and I looked at each other with our mouths open wondring if it was real. THen the neighbors all come over and said holy crap was that awesome!

The best sound I've heard also goes to John Prine at the Redrocks Amphitheatre in Colorado. It is hard to describe it was like having a very good set of headphones on and I was in dreamland. I'll agree it had alot to do with the musicians but the sound was just as good as it gets without blowing you away with volume.

as I have said somewhere before,
for the best sound, it has to go to John Prine in the royal concert hall in November last year.
that place really has a super duper sound system in there. it was not bouncing about with attmosphere but the sound blew me away.

Ken

I'm sure this place has great quality equipment but the voice and instruments coming through this great gear aint squat unless the sounds put through this top of the line equipment isn't genrated by master musicians. John Prine and anyone who has he privelege to stand along side him on stage are undoubtely masters of music.

Howdy,

Thanks Roger,  Hey Tops, I have used that sight also and it is a good one. I have to go to the Bighorn Mountain Festival in the morning for three days of pickin. I will post some pics and maybe some vids of a friend of mine that is camping next to me.She is I am guessing now somewhere in the 75-80 age bracket and just an incredible upright  bass player. She was a music teacher before she retired and is just awesome I feel blessed to be able to play with her.
Back to bass walks, I think this is the first step for rythym players to get their fingers walking, instead of just holding down the chords for dear life.

Hello Roger,

Can you add this vid to the strumming vids, I have had folks email wanting to get the basics on walkups and walk downs.

Thank You                   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xq-oZylZkq8

Hello and welcome to Chordie,

Most songs are in 4/4 timing and that means 4 beats per measure alot of country and folk songs have a 1,4,5 progression and your example probably is  a G C D progression which is a 1,4,5 meaning if you count up the scale from G the C is the fourth and D is the fifth. Ok  so alot of three chord songs have 1 measure of the G chord and switch to the C chord for 1 measure then the D chord may have 2 measures and back to the G chord. It is a good habit to count out loud or to yourself to get keep the beat and get used to counting in 4's.
When helping some folks new to guitar I count out the beats like the melody goes so they get the feel of the 4/4 timing thing.
Oops I  accidently deleted the vid I wanted to post.

Right on Russ,

What I do alot is follow the same chord progression as the verses or chorus and then I will pick up the volume of my picking or strumming and put more emphasis on some hammerons and walkups or walkdowns, then do a bass walk back into the next verse.

Thanks Jerome,

I downloaded a free program called switch that converts Mp4 to Mp3  it only took about 5 minutes for the whole process. They also offered a option of saving the video and removing the audio. I think I have everything covered now. Now to piece together the slide show. All these formats and recording tricks make my poor old head spin at times.

Thank You,

Hey Russ,

It is a video I made with a camcorder, but I just want to use the audio portion of it. I know it can be done, I will have to do a little more research I guess.

Hello,

I need some help, I have a video that I would like to use the Audio and make a new slide show video. Do I need to convert it to a MP3 file. The program I am using requires me to make the slide show and then add the audio file.
So all I want to use is the audio from the existing video, and make a slide show.

Thanks,

Please type responses slow, cause I can't read very fast.
