I've always loved Prine and Iris Dement's version of "In Spite of Ourselves"; it must have been great with Emmy Lou. Sounds like a blast.

I'm a big Elixir fan. I like the way they sound (though I have noticed a difference) and they feel great and last longer.

I agree with Henry. Change those strings, wipe down the fret board. That should do it

Roger's right...look for used. You'll get much more for your money. I've haven't found anything at $100 that played well. Pawn shops and small independent music shops are your best bet if you're in the states

Welcome back Doc!!!!! I hope you had a restful vacation and your creative batteries are fully recharged; your posts have been missed

Agreed. That is definitely the right track. I've been playing for years and, like a lot of people I know, real understanding of theory eludes me. A lot of us play it because it sounds "right" and have some exposure to theory. What I'd love to get out of this forum is "when I play GCD you should solo on this scale". I've always done that by ear. I've never "understood" my way around the fret board just sort of "heard" my way around. Does this make sense?
Anyhow, I'm glad Per decided to put this section up and I'm equally glad your moderating it. I'll be looking in often.

Willie Nelson is neither little-known nor under-appreciated.

I Disagree. Willy is well known but rarely for his guitar work which can be fantastic. He may come up as a song writer and of course a celebrity but I rarely hear praise for his work with that beat up 6 string and again his playing is praiseworthy.

Some secrets probably are better off kept as such. Do you get 'em painted all pretty with flowers and bunnies? Just messin' wit' cha. Whatever works for you................

To each their own...perhaps that Hello Kitty line of guitars as well? JUST JOKING

I second (or fifth?) the vote for Jerome.

Find something you like to play that requires the stretch your looking for (a major 7th bar or something) and just practice the song. Before you know you'll have exercised and stretched without it seeming like a chore.

I'm part owner of a Security Integration Company. Just electronic security not physical (systems not guards). I used to be a systems administrator but got tired of cleaning porno off of hard drives.

Same here James...a complete blur...sweating like a pig. In retrospect the best thing I ever did by far.

Man, I got tears in my eyes laughin' at that - reminds me of a scene from Deliverance. SQUEEEEEL!

Hilarious and a great idea for a song. A dirty naked couple, fat and skinny. Sort of a Deliverace thing without the unhappy scene...you all know who I'm talking about

I have a leather strap instead of the button (I think it's made by Fender). It works as well. I'm not a performer so take it for what it's worth. If you only occasionally need a strap this may be a solution to adding a button on the headstock.

One of the most powerful songs ever written and/or recorded. That's what is so special. I don't know anyone who isn't moved by that song. Musically and lyrically just so ethereal, profound and beautiful.

Leaving Trunk Taj Mahal (incredible harp)

I see you're still in the candy store Roger?

I Will Follow You Into The Dark by Death Cab for Cutie

and then "Why Don't We Do It In The Road" from the Beatle's White Album (not because it has any significance or death theme but it's a great song you can't help tap you foot to. I'd like to be able to look on and see everyone trying to resist enjoying it because of the nature of funerals.)

The drag me out to War Pigs by Black Sabbath (again just because it's cool)

There's a previous thread in which Jerome had a link to a random band generator website which is actually very cool.

Again, this was on a previous post.

I agree with CF...Rip them up....No pain no gain. Play after showering or washing dishes when your tips are the softest that'll get 'em tough
