Know what, my friend? It's right now 2:39 am Eastern Time in the USA and I just now listened to this ("Bird On A Wire") song again.

I would like to hear YOU singing it, Pete!

You have the voice and that "passion" Tyson7 always talks about, I believe that when you are ready, you can do this one more than justice.

Let's hear a cover with you  on guitar and Maree on piano!

A "CHORDIE COMMAND PERFORMANCE!!!!!!

YOU can do this, my friend!

Here's my guy. My HERO, Gene Krupa, but before you click on this link< I would like you all to consider that Gene was not only a "drummer". He knew what was needed with the song being played, and so you will see him providing "percussion" before he "turns loose". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6lwQHY-M5GU

Again. I know this - my beloved musical site - is about guitars, so I won't post anything else about that, but man! I sure did like playing my drums behind whatever great bass player was with us!

Just the point of view from behind that bass drum and all those cymbals!

We're here and when that "groove" grabs, it grabs us too! smile

Love Y'all

First, I realize I'm on a site dedicated to "The Strings" (forgive me that name, but every band I have played for I called them either "Strings" or "Percussion") ...... but I need to say something.

Speaking for the rest of us drummers/percussionists, we think it's great that y'all can play your six-strings and "slap" the body of your guitar to make it sound like you have a drummer backing you up. Really it's great you can do that, and for a while I thought it was nice, but now.....

....you guys are starting to get on this drummer's last nerve. smile

We drummers already are being replaced by "drum machines", "electronic drums" and drums available for download with various music programs one can purchase on eBay.

Back in the 60's, when I was just a little boy of 12 playing a parade drum in a high school marching band, along came The Beatles and I felt it incumbent on me to grow out my hair and beg my Dad to buy me a drum kit: My Ludwigs.

After that and for many years thereafter, we drummers were depended on to play "time", look nice and stay behind the band and we were okay with that....

But now?

We got these "hot-shot git-tar players" who think it's just sooooo wonderful they can provide a "thump" on the body of that Six-String every once in a while during a song. Cool, but we can do that for you as well and give you the time you need to play some really great stuff on your GIT-TAR, dammit!

So, I am here to let you know we appreciate the fact you can do that stupid "thumping", but it isn't necessary!!!!

That's why you have us!

So just stop it! We learned long and hard to get our rudiments down and we don't need you to do it for us. Matter of fact, we drummers doubt if y'all even know what rudiments are or how many of them a drummer has to know!

PLEASE MY FRIENDS. -------

The above is just a little satirical piece and is not meant to hurt anyone here, okay? Y'all know I now play guitar (or try to) and wouldn't EVER hurt any of my precious friends!

Great news indeed!  Any streams of the party y'all threw?

Comments left for you on SoundCloud, Scott, but as I wrote there, what you played sounds like a very nice "hook" which I would like to "back up" with my drums.

More like this, please! smile

Joe I tried to leave a comment on VIMEO, but I don't know if it "took". my friend. What I wrote was you couldn't have picked a better tune for "Open Mic". Y'all rocked it, made ME feel like I was at a concert and I also asked for more. I also asked who the second guitar/voice is?

VERY nicely played and it was very evident you both are fans of The Dead.

Thanks, Joe for favoring us with one of The Grateful Dead standards!

35 YEARS??????

Man! Were you two in love or what, Pete?????? smile

Madondra (she hates it when I call her that! It sounds like "Madonna" whom she hates) and I were just comparing the years to yours, my friend: She and I first got married in 1970 and divorced in 1985. We then remarried (we stayed friends and loved each other through the years - long story) in 2008.  So how many years is that put together? 23?

We honor your marriage to your sweet Maree and both of us wish you many, many more happy years together!

Going there now. Thank you, my friend.

I also hope there will soon be a "Boxed Set" of Mr. Cohen's works.

Still listening to "Suzanne".

May I say that of all of his works that were covered, the great Joe Cocker made "Bird On A Wire" a great  work of his own?

Would you listen to it with me? Thanks.

I'll let YOU explain to "She Who Must Be Obeyed".  HAHA! smile

As you may have guessed, my friend, I'm not much of a fan of Prog Rock. I used to buy Rick Wakeman's "concept albums" but really never found anything to make me relate to them: "The Six Wives Of Henry The Eighth", "Journey To The Center Of The Earth", "Lord Of The Rings"and was there one called "Arthur"? I don't remember, but I bought those albums for their titles and (I thought) the music. But I digress....

There are just a few songs I like by YES, ("Logical Song" is one: "One, Two, Three, FIVE") but I can count them on the fingers of one hand. The hits, certainly (I was a dj then and much younger), but after that, sorry, not much excited me about them.

Would you consider "Klaatu", prog rock, TF?

I am sorry, my friend: I did try to reach out to "Prog", but the closest I ever got was (I believe) the group "Hawkwind".

Thank you as always for keeping us educated! I love what you do for us and will ALWAYS give a listen!

......... envy those of you who have them - especially the hollow body Chet Atkins models. My second set of drums were a Gretsch model, but I didn't like them as much as my first ones: Ludwigs. In my opinion (well, in the 60's - they may have improved since then) the Gretsch company should have stayed with guitars.

Someone here (I won't say the name) has begun calling me "Opie" (from the Andy Griffith Show). I don't know where they came up with that --- my writing style, must be ---- but what do you guys think? "Opie" or "Strummerboy"?

I always liked ol' "Ope" (what Barney and Andy used to call him for short) and thought he had the best lines written for him in this comedy and I don't mind having the name at all. smile

Just curious: Does the Andy Griffith Show play in New Zealand, Australia and..... Portugal?

Thanks
