Thanks for the kind words folks - Just returned and I will be going back on a regular basis. There were about 16 kids split into 2 groups. We had a small drum kit, djembes, bongos, tambourines a bunch of guitars and a set of keyboards set up. The kids ranged in age from about 6 to 15. It was very informal - kinda let them wander around and pick an instrument of their choice. The drum kit was a hit as most kids wanted to give them a try. Several picked up a guitar and I was able to do just what I had hoped - teach a few kids a couple of chords and bring them a few smiles. Wonderful to see their eyes light up and the smiles appear when they pick out then strum that chord cleanly for the first time.

Looking forward to going back next month, like norm said - I had as much fun as they did!

I've found this awesome charitable organization in my area called Instruments 4 Life https://www.facebook.com/instruments4life . Their mission is "To promote positive social and educational outlets for youth through creative and artistic stimulation.". Actually a coworker of mine and his roommate founded the organization.  They spend time a lot of time at a foster home teaching kids how to play guitar.

Many of you know my history in losing a child to cancer - I've spent more hours in hospitals than I care to think about. Instruments 4 Life recently began offering their time to a local Children's Cancer Center and I knew I had to help. I offered my time a few months ago and they finally took me up on it. (He didn't know I "played" the guitar)

So tomorrow is my first gig. I told them I'm no guitar player, but I love kids and know that a positive attitude is essential to the healing process. I am very much looking forward to spending a few hours with them tomorrow maybe teaching a kid a chord or 2 and hopefully putting a smile on a few faces.

Check out and "like" their facebook page if you want. Anybody have any old guitars lying around, I am sure they could use the donation!

I'll let you know how it goes after I get back!

Amy lives in the snow belt - 30 inches is just a dusting for the folks up there. (I know, I used to live up there myself)

^ Best answer yet!!

I drove a riding lawn mower I borrowed from a buddy over the seawall in my back yard into a salt water canal. Top That!!

I haven't picked up my guitar in a week (was traveling last week), my college basketball team lost a heart breaker today and my wife AND girlfriend are both out of town.

A skype jam might be just the thing I need to pick me up - I'll be around and can host a group if anybody's interested!

Yup - That's pretty random all right

Hate to hear that Dirty Ed - I was looking forward to hearing you play your music live. Hopefully next time!

Try adjusting your screen resolution by pressing Cntrl and -

The transpose feature is still there - you just can't see it!

How bout Tone-Def-Mod - works with my singing and has a modern hip-hop kinda vibe. big_smile

I've noticed several of the mods have created or been given custom titles. Russ is the Alien, Zurf "The Other Bald Moderator", Roger is Laid Back, Amy is "The Chick".

I'm just a boring old "Moderator". So I'm asking - do I deserve a custom moderator title? Maybe I've found it in "Boring Old Moderator", how 'bout "Drunk Moderator" ?- that usually fits.

I'd like to hear suggestions - what say you chordians, got a super cool or otherwise (in)appropriate title for me? I would be honored to have one wink

Winning suggestion gets a chordiestock 2013 T-Shirt (if we have one)!

^ Pretty good list Tenement Funster - I agree with 70 or 80% anyway - I see you are a relative newbie, so welcome to chordie!!

That's what usually happens at our family gatherings between me and my brother and/or sister!

Yeah dino - I'm guessing it was a server problem that required a re-boot. I first noticed it last night and emailed Per. If it happens again, send a message to admin@chordie.com and I'm sure he'll sort it out. He was probably in bed by the time I sent my message.

I know other mods have had the same problem

I've become a big fan of this kid.  He's a fingerstyle guitarist from Korea who plays some really intricate covers of popular songs.  If the videos on his YouTube channel are any indication, it looks like he's been playing since he could hold a guitar.  Here are a couple worth listening to:

Creep (Radiohead):  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=htTPcxckjf0

Jeff (Topdown):  We know you like to play that one, so we expect you to be able to play it just like this on the next Skype jam.  smile

I've been watchin' this kid for years as well - he's even played with Tommy E - great talent, but I'll have to stick with the easy strumming version. He plays half the tune above the 5th fret and I don't know how my guitar works that high up the neck. smile

They call it the "Nashville Numbering System" for a reason - it's meant for use with cowboys chords for songs that are written in one key and a max of 3 chords. For flatdiminshedminorseventh chords you've got to look for the Jazz numbering system which looks a lot like Chinese Arithmetic.
