One great example is JETHRO TULL.
- IAN ANDERSON PLAYING FLUTE.
- FOCUS a DUTCH BAND with Jan Akkerman and Thys Van LEER. Thys also played flute.
I am looking for bands using unusual instruments, like FIDDLE, BANJO, BAGPIPES (About bagpipes there is one song using this instrument and having a huge hit: WINGS with MULL of KINTYRE).
The Beatles introducing the SITAR.
DO YOU KNOW BANDS OR SONGS USING UNUSUAL INSTRUMENTS?.

Topic: QUEEN probably the third best band ever? (1 replies, posted in Bands and artists)
You can make a list here, but no matter how you think the Beatles and Stones will always be the number 1 and 2.
Ask people about who is the best band ever, you get an instance response
1) BEATLES
2) STONES
FOLLOWED BY: A BLACK HOLE. WHO IS NUMBER 3? or number 10? I go for
3) QUEEN
4) U2
5) LED ZEPPELIN
What is your opinion? QUEEN has made incredible songs with probably the best pop song ever:
BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY.
Or is it METALLICA, AC/DC PLEASE WHAT IS YOUR OPINION? Don't agree with n°1 & 2, give me a name.

Topic: DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GUITAR PLAYERS? (6 replies, posted in Electric)
I believe you can have 3 different categories here.
1) Rhythm guitar
2) Lead guitar
3) Solo guitar.
Is this correct or not, and which style you think you play?
If you go back to the early 50ties you still had "big bands" but now with the guitarplayer more in the picture.
My opinion is:
RHYTHM GUITAR is just strumming, ADDING AN EXTRA VALUE TO THE BAND. The most important members in a band are "the rhytmsection" = bass, drum, rhythm guitar.
Take Creedence Clearwater Revival and listen to the songs, you will hear, in this case more on the background, a guitar player who is just strumming without extras.
THE MOST IMPORTANT ERA FOR RHYTHM GUITARISTS IS THE DISCO ERA.
LEAD GUITAR is strumming with a few extras, like riffs and licks. Best example is Keith Richards, he is a gifted and high ranked guitar player, but do you know songs with real big solos?
I "THINK" I belong in that category, from the very first chords you play, the audience recognises the song. STRUM + LICKS + RIFFS and MINI SOLOS.
SOLO GUITAR is like you see and hear in bands or artists like SATRIANI, VAI. Other great solo guitarists are JIMI HENDRIX, STEVIE RAY VAUGHN, JIMMY PAGE, ALVIN LEE (with that incredible song on WOODSTOCK: I'm Going Home) and a lot more others.
THE REAL CHAMPIONS ARE people like Hendrix playing everything rhythm, lead, solo BUT DRIVEN by a fabulous RHYTHM DUO = BASS+DRUMS.
IS THIS THEORY CORRECT? I can't find an answer. IS THIS ANSWER CLOSE ENOUGH?

Re: Black Magic Woman (5 replies, posted in Electric)
MY ANSWER:
As long as you play the song and the people recognize the song, you do a good job.
- this is a very easy song to play acoustic, and it gives another dimension played acoustic.
- this a very good song to play electric.
ACOUSTIC = when you start playing this song acoustic, you can avoid or add the typical Santana solo.
ELECTRIC = you will try to play the electric solo, easier than on an acoustic.
I am more a player who TRIES to play RHYTHM + LICKS and RIFFS, this is not typical rhythm guitar.

I asked if someone is familiar with DUESENBERG GUITARS.
I surfed for hours to return finally to that tiny little music store in OSTEND at our coast in Belgium.
IF YOU HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO GO TO YOUTUBE AND WRITE DUESENBERG GUITARS YOU WILL HEAR AND SEE:
- How EXTREMELY GOOD THEY SOUND
- NEVER A NEGATIVE OPINION
Here a link http://www.duesenberg.de/duesenberg/en_index.php
This almost never happened, since I saw a 49er 7 weeks ago, I am so obsessed that I will buy that guitar. I want to sell a Variax 700 line 6, the DUESENBERG = 1100€ = 1694$.
The price on almost every site is between 1800-2200$ The sound is amazing and they will become a lot more expensive. Ron Wood plays one, Keith Richards ordered one. Lenny Kravitz, Pearl Jam, Slash, Keith Urban they all start using these guitars, I believe this tells more than enough about this brand. The MSRP is 2950$ and the prices will go higher and higher.
These guitars are still handmade, and I think the brand started to be imported maybe 5 years ago in the USA.
GO TO THEIR WEBSITE AND LISTEN TO THESE GUITARS, or on YOUTUBE.
This is subjective, but they sound better than most Gibsons.

Topic: TOP 5 MOST UNFORGETABLE MOVIE SONGS (9 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
NO MUSICALS but movies having a fantastic soundtrack like
1) EASYRIDER + the fantastic 60ties songs
2) GOODMORNING VIETNAM = idem dito
3) GHOST: THE RIGHTEOUS BROTHERS come back: That song still grabs me my the throat UNCHAINED MELODY
4) PHILADELPHIA with Bruce Springsteen's SUBLIME song STREETS of PHILADELPHIA
5) PRETTY WOMAN (Julia Roberts + Richard Gere) ROXETTE'S It Must 'Ve Been Love
Music in movies = a strange thing. How many movies I saw without noticing songs, a lot. Just when the film ends and the lights are turned on I realize that there great songs, BUT SOME SONGS ARE SO GREAT = right song on the right moment taking your breath away (yes maybe TOPGUN too), that you get tears in your eyes, like in GHOST = VERY EMOTIONAL.

- JACO PASTORIUS.
- JOHN ENTWISTLE ( The WHO)
- GREG LAKE (take a pick: Emerson Lake & Palmer, King Crimson, Asia = a so called super group).
- JACK BRUCE (Cream + many other bands)
- JOHN PAUL JONES Led Zeppelin

Especially the ones choked in their vomit. THIS REGARDS AND IS PERSONAL "HURTING" ME, because due my condition and to a severe inflammation of my OESOFAGUS it could be me on that list (not as a musician), I swear reading was painful for me.
- JIMI HENDRIX choked in his own vomit
- JOHN "BONZO" BONHAM (Led Zeppelin) same cause after excessive drinking
- BON SCOT (AC/DC) choked in his vomit when drunk
- PHYL LYNNOT (Thin LIZZY) hairtfailure due to excessive abuse
- JIM MORISSON (DOORS) choked to death after excessive drinking

To avoid discussion in another topic about fuel Zurf wrote that the situation is almost normal between a DOLLAR $$$ and a EURO €€€€€
I don't think so.
1000€ = 1550$ or
1000$ = 645$
I rather think that since this situation exists since months, you get used to it.
BUT US ARTISTS start to ask to be paid in EURO. I think the BRITISH POUND was even 50% more expensive than a EURO but the pound is lower now.
Yes the USA is a paradise for EUROPEANS now.

Re: HELLEU DEAR FRIENDS I'M BACK (20 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Love you all.
When I traveled I used to call and represent myself as DOC "HOLYDAY." It was great I did things there making me a lot better.
There are some great caves in a town called ORADOUR, I had to take the elevator, together with my friend while his wife was getting a tan. 3 elevators later we were at the bottom of the caves. If you see this you realize how small we are, like dust. A cave is still today a miracle for me. You can see a lot of things caused by a river who started this 10.000.000 years ago, like a curtain, a head all those stalactites, stalagmites. We made a boat trip to end up 1 kilometer from the start. The distance from that moment was on foot. I DID IT!!! and I'm proud I did it, but a second time? I don't think so. Frabce is one of the "nicest countries" in Europe. They have it all, 2 different chains of mountains, rivers, 2 different seas, weather, incredible little towns, a different lifestyle in the south. My top 3 countries are
1) South Africa
2) THE USA
3) FRANCE
My dream is to travel once in SOUTH AMERICA, and visiting the IGUACU falls, still in Brazil but more where BRAZIL, ARGENTINA and PARAGUAY meet. Also in PERU the "machu picchu" and the famous lake called TITICACA. I know there is a small train going up, but the last 3 miles is on foot. So....????. I need always a partner to travel = I pay his/her ticket and add 250$ to help me travel. If you are interested you know how to find me

Re: DOCPHILS HOLIDAY (5 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Thank you so much. This thread wasn't mentioned to be a "full of self-pity" topic. As you see it started with a "stupid funny" Bee Gees word game. I don't care if comedians make jokes on disabled people, of course there are limits. But I am glad for 2 thinks YOUR FRIENDSHIP which I consider today as more important than I could imagine, and second, I can still make myself ridiculous, by telling or writing stupid even senseless things and that I didn't loose myself in sadness and no more joy in my life. There were very difficult periods, but haven't we all such periods. I have everything I need, even better what I wanted. Finances are 10x better than a year ago, and soon I attack that insurance company. Winning = BACK TO, BACK TO THE USSSA. And when I arrive there, it would be great to see you guys there THAT'S A PROMESS.
My life has changed a lot in a positive sense. Like APHRODITE'S CHILD: I WANT TO LIVE, after the RAIN AND TEARS.
In December (X-mas + New Year), my youngest brother who is also my very best friend pays a air plane ticket for mum & me to DUBAI where he is one of the "hot shots" in the "palmtree construction. But day by day, week by week that is the way to live.
I would love to post a thread about how chordie changed me, my lifestyle, and I am certainly not the only one.

Ooh youre a holiday , such a holiday = Ooh I have a holiday, a real holiday
Its something I thinks worthwhile
I'm not going to the Nile
But I will leave with a big big smile
In my big wheelchair throwing stones
Throwing stones 1000 miles with broken bones
I AM ON A HOLIDAY FROM 27 May - 05 June.
I really hope to come back with new energy, the last months were TOO much. Documents, new documents, a demand for a wheelchair, because I can't barely walk. I'm not joking, I love joking and chordie.
Be sure I will think and thank all of you for GIVING ME SO MUCH IN RETURN YOU ARE ALL MY FRIENDS, please think of me, I need it. I want to return with a fresh head, it's hard to accept my condition in particular with that wheelchair, telling you enough about how I feel. BUT I AM SOMEONE WHO NEVER GIVES UP.
SO I WILL MISS YOU ALL FELLOW CHORDIANS, it pisses me of that I don't have a PC there, but is THAT REALLY NECESSARY?
SORRY for writing this, but I want you all to know how much you mean to me, more than you can imagine.
THANKS, I'm still here until monday.

AGREE, you can tell the same about "White Christmas" or "Happy Birthday to you"
When I lay down and watch some DVD's and there is a burial, especially when a "cop" dies, they play AMAZING GRACE.
A STRANGE QUESTION = often you see 10 people in uniform shooting 3 times. The bullet is fired but thanks to the laws of gravity he has to fall down. 30 bullets falling down, isn't that dangerous because the bullet falling down can still hit you.

Re: NEED HELP ON A SOLO!! (7 replies, posted in Electric)
Sampling? You play the song and use the solo? I haven't a clue.
WHAT IS IMPORTANT, THE "complete solo as on their album? If you practiced so long, I am convinced that your SOLO version isn't the same but maybe for 50% like PAGE played it.
You can add a personal touch by playing what you already can play, as long as the public recognize the solo.
Has it to be 100% the famous solo? I repeat use what you've learned, and go for it. Another suggestion is PLAY - A - LONG with the solo on the album.
I can understand that you are a "perfectionist" record YOUR VERSION and COMPARE. Nobody will shoot you if you give your own interpretation, if not see play using the Zeppelin solo and try to play with that song.

Starting from 1990-2008 and still famous and real great bands
I CHANGED THE YEARS, SOME BANDS ARE PERFORMING YEARS BEFORE 1998. My intention was to MAKE A LIST of CONTEMPORY BANDS VERSUS THE OTHER THREAD, THE (your, mine) LIST OF GREATEST ROCK BANDS, playing since years or who don't exist no longer.
And YES "Greenday" is TWICE in my list, it was GOO GOO DOLLS
1) FOO FIGHTERS
2) COLDPLAY
3) GREENDAY
4) RADIOHEAD
5) OASIS
6) GOO GOO DOLLS
7) NICKELBACK
8) LINKIN PARK
9) WHITE STRIPES
10)BEYONCE & DESTINY'S CHILD
I would add the Red Hot Chili Peppers but they play together at least 20 years
