Hi siggi56/Bill
Welcome to Chordie.
I saw a TV documentary on Terry Pratchett who has been diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s he had his way with coping with his illness and I'm sure you have your own. Music is a great way of taking your mind off your troubles even if it's only for a short while..:)

No it doesn't matter.
Though with me it's usually the music. I have been known to ditch the words and just keep the music... smile

Wow Phill thanks for that very encouraging comment.
Coming from yourself I appreciate it a lot.
Your songs etc on War and soldiers are always good and certainly painted a vivid picture of that era to me..

Thanks Strans.
Yes I have read Wilfred Owen also Siegfied Sassoon who greatly influenced him and his writing..
I am always moved by Rupert brooks poem "The Soldier" The words relate to England and the English but the sentiments could apply to any Soldier lost and buried in a foreign country...

Hi all
I wrote this bit of prose a while back now after seeing a photo of an army patrol in the first world war.
My Grandfather served a conscript one of thousands thrown into the meat grinder that was the trenches of the 1st world war and only by fate did he survive.
One day I’m going to set it to music.
As always thanks for reading…

The Patrol
The Sergeant’s hand is raised…
Down we drop crouched rifle gripped firm and strained as sweat drips lazily off worried brows.
Night noises invade my ears rich and malevolent echoing through the cloying tainted night air.
Fear encases and envelopes me, stretching then compressing leaving stark open wounds of my feeble courage.
I’m transfixed rooted listening with heartbeat deafened ears for sounds from an invisible enemy.
The moist wet air heavy with  an acrid panic gives nothing away to me save the laboured breathing of my exhausted companions.
Seconds drag slowly by time controlled by situation they become an alien insidiousness to me laced with latent menace.
As I crouch shaking and sweating my mind wanders and then fly’s for the briefest moment I’m home.
My wife stands there forever framed in my thoughts her smile her tears her slightest gesture impressed on my memory.
Then as always fear chokes my throat and in silence the silence I’ve learnt for all unbearable emotion bares down on my soul.
Then I’m back staring at the helmet of the figure in front of me drained and insipid pinned seemingly to the mud slick ground.
I become aware of all my brothers fellow suffers all crouched I look at them as if distant strangers yet familiar to me as my family.
Their eyes stark betraying their fears their slight body movements giving them away as nervous caricatures of fighting men.
We all fear showing fear and we all show that fear each in our different ways. It slips sometimes overtly sometimes clandestinely from our bodies eroding our will destroying our reason stripping us bare.
Then the moment passes seconds that seemed like hours melt away we continue to exist.
The Sergeants hand is raised we slowly rise it begins again…..

Hi crevs
Recording in the bathroom maybe a little uncomfortable and dangerous with all that water flying around…. smile
I record in a spare bedroom and impart all I need in the way FX (reverb echo etc) with the software I use.
I think all the budding amateur needs for recording is a quiet environment..

I need to invest in some way to record my songs in a better format but I'm definitely on a budget if you guys could recommend something I could use with my pc that would be great. Ive only played these songs for my friends and family I'm glad to hear other songwriters give me the ok.
Ive been looking up chords on this site for quite some time and was just recently searching google for a site where I could share my songs and hear what other people are doing, little did I know you guys were right here the whole time.

keep strummin

thanks
shuvelhead

Hi shuvelhead

Check out the recording forum for lots of info on recording your songs to the PC.
Quite a few of us use Myspace to show case our songs also Soundclick Ourstage and Reverbnation all host songs for free. Each is a bit different it depends what you want to do with your songs…
Adding more chords to a progression could create more interest as would bass walks etc..
If your looking to embellish your songs with other instruments then multi tracking would be the way to go.

I didn't mean to be Flippant, what that statement really meant was that even though I've heard of mozart, because I'm a musician, but I don't know mozart musically as I'm sure that not alot of the younger crowd "KNOW" him either, sure I've heard some of his music but let's just say it didn't inspire me. I like metal it's true and I'm sure classical has it's roots in all music, but to be honest when I listen to altar of sacrifice from slayer I really don't hear the classical roots of mozart in there! But I do give it up to all who've had a hand in expanding our musical horizins, even mozart!! Sincerely, young and dumb and my string just popped!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Riverdales
I don't think you were being flippant. It was the sort of comment I would have made years back. I was into Led Zep etc then and had no idea who Mozart was other than old dead composer. He certainly didn't inspire me......
It wasn't until I got older (I know boring) that I got into classical music and I realised it true worth to modern day music.
Saying who was influcenced by who can be become partly misleading as all modern day music and musical styles owe their exsistence to composers/musicians like Mozart, Bach, Beethoven the list goes on and on.

Hi runout/ron
The best way to go is to save your songs to Mp3 if you can or convert your wave files into Mp3 with Audacity or a wave to mp3 converting app.
Then use the windows media player. You drag and drop you Mp3 files to the burn section. Then burn them to a disc windows will automatically convert them to a CD format which will play on an ordinary CD player.
I've done this with my stuff and it plays ok on the car CD player.
Don't burn files as MP3 as they won't play on a bog standard CD player..
Hope this helps

Who's Mozart and what's his latest CD called!!

You don't want to be flippant about Mozart.  If your avatar correctly suggests that you like metal music, you've GOT to like Mozart.  He was the party hardy rock star of his day, he completely turned music on it's ear, AND the grand-daddy of all speed metalists, Yngwie Malmsteen, uses Mozart licks and musical techniques to this day!  Everyone influenced by Yngwie is influenced by Mozart.

Well said Zurf....
Without the genuis of Mozart I doubt if modern music would have evolved in the same way..
I wonder quite how music would turned out without him..

I dumped Norton years ago expensive and just to much trouble with pop up worrying wanrings..
Chased the files down and deleted most. Then tried free AVG from Grisoft and it has been fine. Use the free ZoneAlarm firewall and your protected for Nothing..
Why pay?

Hi anastasiak112
To record a guitar and vocals all you need is
A computer interface this could be a multi track as said but not necessarily just a device you can plug your mic and guitar in. The interface would be plugged into your computer.
I would use Audacity software to to record each track separately though you could record both guitar and vocals together if you wanted.
Most modern computers have a sound card able to record ok.
Russ has some tutorials on Audacity software..
hope this helps

Hi Shady
Just had a listen. Good job like the fingerpicking.
A bit more volume on the vocals may help and perhaps a bit of reverb just a suggestion.
What about....
"You gave me the gift of your wisdom"?
for line you wondered about.
