I don't think we're comparing apples to apples here. Yes there have been many great inventors in recent history that have made the modern world what it is today. But Heron was thousands of years ahead his time. Da Vinci was hundreds of years ahead. These kind of guys don't exist anymore. It might be because people today are so smart that a stand out genius is hard to find. Mostly things are invented in groups. NASA has done major things. (Glad they are there but don't agree with their mission)
As for inventors of our time, I love Nikola Tesla. If you don't know about him check out his story. Modern Marvels on the History Channel does a great job depicting him.
WOW Joey!!!!! Do yourself a favor, grab gabbytrout and sit down to the Star Wars saga. I'm not a huge fan but they are classic and should be seen. As far as the other two shows, don't waste your time.
I love shows about guys like that. Where are guys like that now? It seems we don't have too many that are way ahead of their time. At least not like Heron and Da Vinci. Would be cool to see what they thing of the modern world and what they might come up with now.
LOL Zurf. That is too funny. Where do they get these ads?
Greatbigdave wrote:2, Why is it a problem only having the saddle 1/16 above the bridge? I've got a guitar that is a bit like that. in fact the guy that sets my guitars up for me actually sanded the bridge in front of the saddle so the srtrings missed it and the guitar sounds and plays great.
Just interested that's all.
I think this is a bad thing. If your saddle is too short your strings don't have enough down pressure. Other problems can come from that. The info is in the 2nd link srpetty posted.
So now you have some extra cash to buy yourself a Christmas present. Maybe another axe?????????
Glad to hear that you're progressing. Just think, of all your body parts the hands are probly the most used so recovery should be faster than, lets say a knee or hip. Keep at it Butch!!!!!
I think it is the eye of the beholder. If you buy it as a collectors item then you should leave it as so. If you buy it play, then make it your own. It's your guitar so do to it as you wish.
Maybe try to practice more often but for shorter times. I share your pain, I'm in construction and I quite often don't practice due to aches and pains n my hands.
That's wild!!!! The frets do a rainbow across the neck. I thought the neck was bent at first. I wonder what kind of research went into figuring out how all that would work.
He is very talented. Do you think he can play normal like the rest of us?
I think that's it Jerome. It's all been learned and practiced.
So there's been some talk of playing lead and improv stuff. It got me thinking. When you see someone just playing something off the cuff, is it really free form? For me I can't just stick things in. It takes practice. Cuz if you think about it, playing a song is just going thru the motions you've practiced over and over. If I try to even add just another finger at a certain point it takes practice. So my question is, when someone is improvising is it really that or something they have learned and practiced before? There is a diff between knowing what to do and actually doing it. Yes you can know everything about the neck but can you just really throw things together without practicing?
I don't know if this makes any sense.....
Just throwing this out there, info you probly already have:

He has amazing lessons!!!!
16 million dollars?????????????? Wow. I wonder if the owner treats that violin the way I treat my cheapo guitars? I don't beat them up, but I don't rub them with a diaper either.
I'm in the same boat as DJ. I just passed my 3 years and I wouldn't know the first thing about playing in a band. I have never played out anywhere. Other than my students and my family I've never played in front of anyone either. So if your lead in a band at this point I'd say your doing something right. As far as improving when you want, I would set some goals for yourself and knock 'em down 1 by 1. If anyone can do it you can.
Man extra cash would be nice. Maybe I should look into gigging. If I only had the time.
Nice!!!! Love the satin and it's not fancy. Like Joey said, if you like it then it was worth it.
The ideal situation would be to call him out in front of the person about to buy it. Let him think he's got a sucker on the line then let him have it. I hate false advertising!!!!!
just be careful of the ends. I've ruined a practice session or two by stabbing myself with an e or b string.
Super cool Beamer!!!
I am going to see Tesla in January. Was supposed to be last week but they had to reschedule to due sickness. I loved Firehouse back in the day. I'll check out Maxx Warrior.
Thanks for sharing!!!
I can do that, index on the 6th string just touching the 5th to mute it, ring finger on the 2nd, pinky on the 1st. No thumb involved.
Really???? I don't want to say dumb, but who's gonna buy this? If you read the terms and conditions it clearly states that you will get a box of air. Cmon people!!!!!!
Didn't think this was gonna be the subject of this post. Title threw me for a loop.
I'll try to get a pic up on mine.
Happy post Thanksgiving, Black Friday to everyone!!!!!
So I'm always on the look out for free picks. I have no idea why I just am. So I came across a couple of pick makers on other forums. The posts were old but they offered free pick samples. I e-mailed each one and they gladly sent me a sample. They are both made of clear acrylic. I think they sound a little diff than others I've used. They are ridiculously priced but cool none the less.

Just e-mail them and say you're interested in trying out their picks to compare them to what you normally use. Also tell them what thickness and style you use.
He's a really cool guy. Always full of energy. I was in the same cabin as 4 of the 5 band members. After talking to them all the first night I told the band leader that I wanted to hear each of them do a quick solo. Tim' first response was "I can't solo." I immediately replied with a "Whatever!!" Then the leader kinda smirks and says "Yes he can he's just humble that's all." They didn't end up doing it. Wish they would have. A few years ago he headed up a children's show that was part of our Halloween event. It was him, and like 6 kids beating on pipes, trash can lids, buckets, and all sorts of other things. It was awesome. He is definitely an inspiration.
Hi All!!!!
There is a guy that goes to the same church as me, his name is Tim Polen. He plays drums/percussion in the worship band and he is really good. Very energetic and an all around good guy. He leads worship sometimes too, I actually prefer him to our official worship leader.
Anyway, I had heard that he used to play with some famous bands but never thought anything of it. About a month ago we were both at a men's retreat and we get to talking. Turns out he was an actual musician for some well known bands. He toured a little with the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, done some studio work with the Doobies Bros., Michael Mcdonald, Chaka Kahn, and filled in on some recordings with others that I can't think of right now. As far as I know he doesn't gig at all anymore. He still plays, (part of the 5 piece band at the retreat) but isn't doing it for a living anymore. I think it's cool to know someone that has been out there doing it before. Cool stuff huh?
