The alvarez looks nice Wayne. I haven't had a chance to try one either.

I would love to get my hands on one of those CA's one day smile

I use a Takamini as a travel guitar and my son playes it... It fits him perfectly (11 years old today!) It sounds surpisingly good especially plugged in.  Solid cedar top, mahoogany back and sides with factory installed electronics.  They quite making this model but I see one on ebay every now and then.

Or have you considered possibly a Baritone ,or other size, Uke smile   The kids love mine and I still manage to get plenty of play time myself wink

You're supposed to fret the b string 13th fret (C note) and bend it to the note of the 15th fret (D note). You can practice how far to bend it by simply using your tuner.. Pluck it fretted on 13 and you should show a C on your tuner now bend it till you get a D note.

The parentheses kinda depend on the tab itself and the tabers intent. There are no real set rules for tab but most often a note in parentheses is a tapped harmonic. However,  sometimes I see people use it for other things like a muted note, harder attack, softer attack, etc....

BTW,  Welcome to Chordie! -Pix

Nice post Doug.

I couldn't really say which I like best. A soft spruce can sound a lot like cedar and a stiff cedar top can sound a lot like spruce. The final tone of the guitar has more to do with the builder (IMO). Top thickness, bracing, voicing, etc... As Doug said generally cedar is a softer or warmer sounding wood. Spruce is usually brighter but again it all depends on the woods Q (density, stiffness, weight) While some people debate this, It's often thought that tighter grain increases brightness and a top with wider grain spacing will have a bassier tone. It's really imposable for anyone to say "oh a spruce and mahogany guitar will sound like this while a cedar rosewood will sound like that" There are just too many variables and each set of tonewoods has it's own characteristics. -Pix

We have a 9 year old female golden retriever named " Taylor". Got her when she was 8 weeks old. She's the best pet we've ever had. The only other pet we have is female mule. We call her "ex-wife"......... ( just teasin')

Cool!  All the retrievers I've seen have been great dogs. Very smart and loving animals smile

Just curious how many of us keep pets smile

We have 2 cocker spaniels but may be expecting another litter late November... Hence the reason for the paw port installed in my S&P.

Welcome to the forums!!

Congrats on the new guitar! I've seen their advertisements in Acoustic Guitar Magazine but have never had the oppertunity to try one first hand. I'm glad your pleased with it smile She looks great! I like the bridge design and other touches that make it stand apart visually from others. Would love to see some first hand pics wink -Pix

"So what I'm an Atheist.... Who are you to question how your God made me"

Okay I had to post that one but, that's it, I'm going to stay out of the religous discussion (as much as I want to jump in wink ) I wish there was a place we could chat about this resonably though. I love these discussions if they are done intelligently and respectfully to all involved. But alas, this is not the place for it... We need an empty chat room for these things smile  I'm going to head over to Kens youtube page and see if I can lend some assistance lol

Thanks,

Pix, I usually do barre chords on the F chord and G chord on part of the song but I ended up doing all "Cowboy Chords" I have EXP's on and they were squeekin and squakin on the barre's terrible, if sliding at all.

"Cowboy Chords"    a priceless quote smile

Ah, The phrase "Cowboy Chords" came from my first teacher smile He wouldn't even teach me any open chords... He insisted that barre was the only way to play (not that I agree). His point was why learn a fingering that was only useful at one spot on the neck when you have a whole fretboard and range of tones to choose from to express what you wish with your music. He was a classically trained guitarist and was kinda hung up on himself and I was a beginner (still am) so I didn't argue much. I kinda picked up the phrase from him though...
I'm not at all against open chords personally. You can't get the same sustain from barre chords that you do from open chords, allowing them to ring through changes.... I love all chords, Open and Barre smile They all have their places. I really didn't care for his attitude but I'm glad I spent the money for the lessons and got the barre chords and basic theory down early on though... I hope I haven't ever came across as having that same attitude... I really don't smile It's easy to be misread on forums when people can't see the smile you have when typing wink -Pix

Well played and sung Wayne! Great job. I liked it in 4/4 time.. As you said, a little slower but works really well. The sound was superb.

Who is the maker of your S101? It could possibly be better than a Fender or at least made by one of Fenders many builders. As long as it feels and sounds good to you it really doesn't matter what name is  on it.

I believe the S101 guitars are made by the Sejung Corperation...

What model did you get?  I don't have any personal experience with the brand. They seem to be a decent bank for the buck guitar though...
BTW (IMO) Fender acoustics usually aren't that good. However, there are always a few exceptions to the rule.  In general though, Fender does great electrics but their acoustic line has never really excelled.

That's cool Badeye! Man her index finger has to be tired by the end of the night smile http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cqg3kcwAgso Just thought it looked kinda odd the way she picks the bass note with the thumb and then flicks the index out for the following strum. Seems like it would be easier with a pick but I guess she is playing a classical....

Please keep in mind that this is a very basic version and once you get used to it you can slightly embellish the last chords strumming before going back to the first fret with it....

Play an E chord (strum ddduudd),  move the same E fingering to 8th fret & repeat the pattern move it to 4th, then 6th doing the same.... Wa La you're playing "Photograph" by Nickleback. I usually start people off on this one as it gives them something easy to play that most people will recognize. If it would help I'll throw a vid together real quick and send it to ya...

Thanks for the suggestions! They're all fun to "attempt" to play along with smile I've played Djembe and bongo Cajun for a while now so I'm pretty familiar with the techniques/patterns but this is my first set of congas and bongos so there's going to be a little learning curve I'm sure. I play this on Djembe (though not quite as good as he does wink ) but have been giving it a go on the congas this morning http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ryLqfNwSSFE and this really easy one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZ5nWLvh … annel_page though I spice it up a little more.
