I found this, making me member and here is what they write:
Welcome to the Acoustic Guitar Forum - Founded in year 2000, the Acoustic Guitar Forum is the world's largest Acoustic Guitar Community with over 22,000 registered users and more than 6000 individual acoustic guitar enthusiasts reading the forum every single day. That explains the title of this thread.

WHERE DOES THIS PLACE US???
ABOUT CHORDIE:
I think CHORDIE is the BIGGEST WEBSITE for guitars and guitarplayers; but also for people playing other instruments, or just interested. SO the best WEBSITE THERE IS on the planet.
Can you imagine, there are registered users:
- 180410 REGISTERED USERS.
- Daily approximately 300-400 guests and it depends when,
- 30 - 100 registered users on line.

HAS SOMEBODY SEEN A BIGGER SITE? I don't know, what I DO know is that this is the best organized site, with a very loyal community, and about CHORDIE = DON'T FORGET IT IS AT LEAST a lot bigger if you see that this site is there for guitar players != a limited quantity of the population.
We all contribute to this site:
- Guitarplayers
- Newbies, and those who play since ages.
- you ask, we try to answer.
THIS IS CHORDIE. .

This is a difficult, maybe a painful topic. I was busy comparing a lot of LES PAUL and STRAT clones.
MY CONCLUSION:
1) If you don't have a lot of money or you want to play guitar !!THIS IS A VERY SUBJECTIVE OPINION" the best guitars you can buy are the cheap or cheaper lines of Fender & Gibson like
- SQUIER
- EPIPHONE
I heard a few others like HARLEY BENTON a weak sound, no character STAGG is a little bit better and maybe a litlte MORE better on a heavy amp with distortion, but often you start with a combination GUITAR + AMP for beginners.
If you want to buy a guitar I give you an ADVICE: here on chordie are a lot of people having experience about guitars (I am not an expert, but I know how a good guitar sounds)

AS SAID IT IS SUBJECTIVE
I'm working on a list of guitars, sounding not good and take your courage away.

Here in our little country, BELGIUM, we have 1 main religion: CHRISTIAN --> CATHOLIC. In the "horrible" inquisition time, a lot where emigrating. Also there were a lot of people from the "FLANDRES" (Belgium is in fact ARTIFICIAL) who went up North to the NETHERLANDS.
In fact the Flanders started in France, Belgium and the Netherlands. Problem, every year there was a war somewhere, and the English Island was covered on the East Side by the Netherlands, at that time one of the most important countries.
Probably too important, and also around mid 16th century there was the spread of Protestantism - particularly in the cities. So people moved up NORTH or went to the New world AMERICA. New York was dutch at the beginning.
But when did the "typical American phenomenon started"? All these different religions, while here religion is going backwards the USA is one of the most religious countries.
51.3% of Americans are Protestants, 23.9% are Catholics, and 1.7% are Mormons.
What about the BAPTISTS, METHODISTS, LUTHERANS, PRESBYTERIANS, THE DISCIPLES OF CHRIST and a lot more.
If you go to church and you are a musician what KIND OF MUSIC IS PLAYED? Is this the same in all these different churches?
The Afro Americans and gospel, I was overwhelmed when I went to church in the south, to see, hear that fantastic "spectacle" So in fact I read a lot of topics about music played in church.
- 1) WHAT KIND OF MUSIC is played, BOB DYLAN, JEFF BUCKLEY? or completely different music.
- 2) WHAT KIND OF MUSIC is played in the Afro American churches, are you allowed to play blues? - 3) IS MUSIC ALLOWED IN EVERY CHURCH?
I would love to have answers, because here in our country going to church has dropped a lot.
In 1967 : 42,9% went every week to church, in 1998 only 11,3%  HOW IS THE SITUATION IN OTHER COUNTRIES.

DO I BELIEVE IN FATE or is it COINCIDENCE.
- My phone number has 31 21 in it.
- My office, in my parental house is 21
- My bank account has 3121 in it

There are so amazing events in my life.
IS THIS COINCIDENCE OR FATE: my father died suddenly on 04 May 1974, °25 September 1928.
I was together with my mother to a shopping mall, the traffic lights were red and we stood right before an undertaker, I told that this must be a weird profession and that I admired their 'poker faces" time 15.03h. My father has written a book about alcoholism and was busy writing a second book. He worked with a Psychiatric doc, in HAARLEM 'the city who gave the name to HARLEM NY.
When we came home at 17.00h there was another doc telling or asking: are you a son of DR.Paul PHILIPS, I said yes, and he answered your father is dead. In ROTTERDAM. We went to ROTTERDAM, I'll never forget this, my dad laying in the morgue on an ice cold stone, time of dead = 15.03h CAN THIS BE CALLED a "COINCIDENCE"?. What about reincarnation? Strange and worth a topic.

- What is the most common "FAMILY NAME" in the USA.
- What is the most common "GIVEN NAME" in the USA.

There are 2 different styles I can't play:
- DISCO
- REGGAE
I think this question belongs here, I need information about  HOW TO STRUM if you are playing reggae?
How to strum to have a disco pattern?
Do you know how I need to approach it or have you some advice.

I can't post a photo. How do you exactly post a picture?
I can only tell that you can find it on www.flickr.com or better on www.duesenberg.de or .com
Here a link http://www.duesenberg.de/duesenberg/en_inst.php?id=49er

The price I paid is the cheapest price I found. I was so obsessed by that guitar that I looked EVERYWHERE, to end up finally in that little guitar shop.
I paid 1100€ definitely not that cheap, but also not a fortune.
From the moment I left the store she increased 200€.
The prices in Europe = 1190€ - €1500.
The prices in the USA = 2400$ is the minimum retail price.
This guitar: I didn't buy her AS A COLLECTOR4S ITEM? IT WILL BECOME PROBABLY A COLLECTOR'S item. She is so beautiful = art - deco style and this is a guitar to hang on the wall.
I don't have an "instrument" insurance, these guitars of me should cost a fortune.   The are INSURED AS DECORATION, a lot cheaper. I don't play in a band and I play alone and some of them are hanging on thr wall.
But I'm feeling me a little kid again who just got a big present.
By the way, this guitar has it all = the looks; the art deco style, and the sound beats almost every guitar I have. GO AND CHECK ON THEIR SITE.

Thanks.
I couldn't get that guitar out of my mind. Even if she haves a US plant, this is the only guitar who is more expensive.
When I and probably 90% enter in a big guitar store, it's if we are little boys again. PROBLEM = MONEY.
Even disabled and TODAY the "man" with the wheelchair comes, I try to chase dreams or ghosts.
I am writing a new "manuscript" titled: The Doctor Generalist  His Life from birth to stop.
I try to load up a guitar, it doesn't work.
If you want to see some photos go to flicr.com.

I can't post a picture here.

Maybe mixter, maybe. But you have to admit that they were oh so versatile, more than LED ZEPPELIN MY FAVORITE BAND, together with CCR, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd.
It isn't always subjective or objective, some people will say QUEEN, others ZEPPELIN or even other bands.
Queen reinvented themselves every album they made.

Well I think reading all the answers that MY OPINION IS: Even big brands are OK for both.
- 1)  don' young people, with OR little OR big hands, there is a guitar for heavy and small hands.
- 2) you will develop an own style, and I believe having small hands, is a real disadvantage, you play on your instrument in YOUR OWN STYLE.
- 3) Long hands are able to reach real difficult chord = "the chords we skip, because they are too difficult" for the small hands, easier to reach with long hands.
Yes as told they both find their own style.
WHAT ABOUT LOOSING FINGERS? Django Reinhardt (another  export product from Belgium)
I measured my hands from where it starts in the wrist end end in the longest finger, the famous movement we make for other stuff). = 16.5 cm = 64 inches.
I searched everywhere on the net, but no information.
1 thing is for sure: it won't affect your guitar play, like solos, shredding..., only some chords are difficult to play.

The last 20 years there are a lot more women active in song writing and performing.
How many women were active as singer song writer in the 60ties - 80ties?
- Joan Baez
- Emmylou Harris
- Joni Mitchell
It's only the last 15 year that we see a "boom" of female singer song writers
- Alanis Morisette
- KT Tunstall
- Regina Spektor
- Sheryl Crowe
- Joan Osbourne What if God was one of us, beautiful song

If you skip these bands, which band can claim to be the best band, the most complete band playing recognizable songs and versatility in what they bring on album or on stage.
MY LIST & ANSWER IS QUEEN = the most versatile band who dabbled in rock and roll, disco, heavy metal, progressive rock and opera.
I don't know if there is a better band.

This doesn't mean that bands as Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd aren't high on my list, but QUEEN got it all.
A fantastic frontman who could scream, the band playing hard rock.
AM I RIGHT OR WRONG? My opinion is confirmed by searching for a long time on the internet.
WHAT IS YOUR OPINION AND LIST?

WOW again so many reactions. It is not about who has the biggest...but yet the biggest hands versus smaller hands.
THIS QUESTION IS VERY IMPORTANT, and you can spend AND loose a lot of $$$ if you come home and the neck is too thin for you. AND YES here we can say "SIZE MATTERS"
MY THEORY IS ALSO THAT PEOPLE WITH SMALL HANDS and as Russell sais, about SMALL fingers
- it is a lot more difficult if you try to take a specific chord.
- this results in another way to play guitar.
- Some chords in barré are extremely difficult to play if you have short fingers.
about big hands, including big fingers it's a lot easier to take difficult chords.

I have small hands, and I compared them in my music store, and my hands have exactly the same size as JAN AKKERMAN who was the guitarist of the band FOCUS, in 1973 he was elected as the best guitarist in the world. So, there is still hope for me.
JIMI HENDRIX had very long fingers.
MY PERSONAL CONCLUSION = no matter what size of hands you have, you will try and buy an instrument that  fits you. In my case my TELECASTER Reissue 1952 California Beach surf green and not available in the USA which starts to rise in value quit fast (only 1000 were made I think 2 strats included) = neck is too thick. Gibsons have a better neck and PRS too.
So size will matter when YOU BUY A GUITAR, and you adapt really fast your music style. So in fact big hands have only an advantage that you can take almost impossible chords, but DO YOU NEED this chords? That's the question.

We all know the typical shape of an acoustic guitar, and sometimes I have that question why so many people are attracted by a guitar.
My opinion is that the shape of a guitar resembles to the shape of a woman, and that this can be a reason why some guitars are so attractive.
Please don't shoot me it is a simple question and/or suggestion.
In fact the real question is WHY ARE MEN MORE ATTRACTED TO A GUITAR THAN WOMAN?
If you see the population how many women on 100 are attracted to a guitar compared to men? And as a man of science what is the reason?
How many FEMALE guitarists are there compared to MALE guitarists?

Another one about songwriting: does somebody knows the %%% of men versus women?

I believe this is the very first topic about hands AND THE RELATION WITH A GUITAR.
There are players having
- small hands (like me)
- big hands.

IS THE SIZE OF YOUR HANDS IMPORTANT? I mean what is the impact of big versus small hands on your guitar choice?
Which guitar brand is better for small hands? I have a Fender Telecaster 1952 reissue and the neck is a lot more difficult to play in my case than a Gibson neck.
WHAT IS YOUR ANSWER ON THIS MAYBE UNUSUAL BUT IMPORTANT TOPIC.

I finally went to that little music store and I own finally a Duesenberg 49er.
I have to admit, having about 20 electric guitars that this one is one of the finest guitars I have.
- amazing style, art-deco
- amazing sound, crystal clear, and great distortion.
- small neck, which can be more difficult to play if you have big hands, but for me having small hands, just FANTASTIC.

I agree IT DEPENDS ON
1) THE GUITAR PLAYER
2) THE BRAND
I don't know what the best brand is but remember the solo on CHILD IN TIME by DEEP PURPLE and the super fast play of RICHIE BLACKMORE ON A FENDER, and if you go back to WOODSTOCK, and listen to TEN YEARS AFTER with Alvin Lee playing I'm going home on a Gibson 335, I am convinced that every guitar can be called the fastest guitar, as long as the neck fits well in your hand.

I loved that name it sounded like ROGER GROUPIE. I really hope everything is OK, big BRO.
I am very busy at the moment writing about A GENERALIST from BABY to the END. People who read it are pushing me to continue because it seems hilarious, starting with how I see the world through the eyes of a baby.
It's the first time since months that I had so much fun, and this is a good thing for me. SINCE LONG I LAUGHED writing something "stupid but true."

AN UNDERESTIMATED PHENOMENON OR NOT?
We didn't have this topic before, and I am truly fascinated by these people.
WHO ARE THEY, WHERE DID IT START?

MY OPINION
- It started probably somewhere in the middle ages with a musician traveling from village to village and spreading the word, news and entertainement.
ISN'T THIS VERY SIMILAR TO PEOPLE LIKE WOODY GUTHRIE, PETE SEEGER? They performed and their songs were a way to express themselves how their opinion was.
- PROTEST SONGS, ANTI-WAR SONGS, I REALLY DON'T KNOW, I'M JUST GUESSING.
If I should make a list, it would be like this: USA
- Bob Dylan
- WOODY and ARLO GUTHRIE
- PETE SEEGER
- Are BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN, NEIL YOUNG fitting in this category?
- JOAN BAEZ,
- DONOVAN?
- CAT STEVENS? both from the UK
What is your opinion about these singer songwriters, and are they still exist?
Is there FRESH BLOOD or not? I would really love to learn if there are still a lot of them. We don't have a big  culture concerning singer song writers here.

WHERE CAN YOU DRAW THE LINE.
You find bands as LED ZEPPELIN, BLACK SABBATH in the "metal section" compared to SEPULTURA it's rather PLASTIC.
If you see what they write about metal, there are a dozen kinds of metal.
1) METAL: what is in fact the real definition?
2) HARDROCK, is this style of music more related to ROCK or is it considered as a kind of METAL music.
What style of music is played by bands like BLACK SABBATH, LED ZEPPELIN, DEEP PURPLE ?
Better; where is the line between bands as METALLICA, MEGADETH and the 3 bands I mentioned?

A QUESTION:
- CAN YOU FOLLOW WHAT THEY SING even worse CAN YOU FOLLOW WHAT THEY PLAY those SPEED METAL bands. About colors and taste there is no discussion possible.
Strange enough some of the hardrock bands are MEGA POPULAR by a ballad see MORE THAN WORDS by EXTREME.
It is so difficult to TELL what blues are. I mean the difference. Fleetwood Mac has an album and song 3 is a blues song, next song 4 starts 100% identical for at least 50 seconds as song 3.
My conclusion is that there is not much variation in playing BLUES.  WHAT'S YOURS?

That's a difficult thread. I know that some Fenders Telecasters have a thick neck.
What's the size of your hands?

WOW what a surprise. I didn't do this to know your age, but to see what was the top 3.
If you are born before 1954 it get's more difficult,  SEE DINO48, to find songs of your the year, when you are born.
Even if there is a lot of people who are born in the same year, PLEASE POST also your list with 3 top hits
I was surprised, I'M born in the middle of a change in music style, somewhere between blues and rock = Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Little Richard.

Give me the top 3 of the HIT PARADE from the year you are born. If you are born in the same year give or post 3 other well known songs.
I am born in 1955. So here is my top 3
1) TUTTI FRUTTI by LITTLE RICHARD.
2) MAYBELLENE by CHUCK BERRY
3) BO DIDDLEY by BO DIDLEY.

While discussing about covers I got this idea. There are a lot of covers better than the original.
A sort of list:
- WITHOUT YOU by HARRY NILSSON. This is a cover of a mediocre hit or song written and performed by BADFINGER.
- ALL ALONG THE WATCHTOWER by JIMI HENDRIX better than BOB DYLAN who wrote and performed that song too. JIMI lifts the song at least 10 floors higher.
- A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS by JOE COCKER but written and sung by THE BEATLES. WHO CAN FORGET THAT SCREAM lasting almost an eternity on stage in WOODSTOCK.
- ME AND BOBBY MCGEE (WHO IS THAT MAN, Bobby McGee)?? by JANIS JOPLIN written and performed by KRIS KRISTOFFERSON. (that was also a great version)
- WILD THING by THE TROGGS written and performed by CHIP TAYLOR (an uncle of Angelina JOLIE, brother of the actor John Voight)

Some covers are worse but successful like again:
- WITHOUT YOU but now performed by Mariah Carey STERILE, VOICE IS TOO MUCH VIBRATING.
- STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN by DOLLY PARTON and of course written & performed by LED ZEPPELIN
- MY GENERATION by HILLARY DUFF written & performed by THE WHO
- I LOVE ROCK 'N ROLL by "hold tight" BRITNEY SPEARS. Joan Jet

Well, well, again a nice discussion.
Zurf you are 100% correct. I think I'm starting to have ALZHEIMER'S disease. I, who saw SO MANY artists, at least 100 different artists, while I was still backstage doc.
Most of the artists are playing the song different each gig. Like the song HOTEL CALIFORNIA live.
You have an intro of 65 seconds before they start playing that song. It wasn't easy to guess who played it when I heard the first 20 seconds. SO:
IN FACT YOU CAN SAY THAT EVERY BAND COVERS THEIR OWN SONGS. Stupid, I really didn't think about that. For me a cover should be close to the song you cover. THE example is "WITHOUT YOU"in HARRY NILSSON'S version of a "MEDIOCRE POP SONG written by "BADFINGER", but even the original had something magic. The story about this song, written by HAM & EVANS is that one had a refrain, but no strophes, and the other strophes without refrain.
Gives me a splendid new topic idea.
