Hi rockerchick - part of growing up is the fact that adults must continually earn and maintain respect.  Little kids can get by on just being cute - as a teenager you are no longer a little kid.  Now, you must start to demonstrate that you are worthy of respect.

Take responsibility for your actions, take control of your time, earn the respect of your parents by showing you are worthy of respect.  If you want more independence, show them you are capable of handling the freedom.

Yep - That's a lesson I had to learn the hard way also . . . seems so simple, but took me a while to figure out that you can enjoy a drink but not get totally plastered.  Great song, daddycool!

Hi Summers - Sorry all your hard work was lost (but doing it again will not take quite as long).  Be sure to use the 'save' button that is between the edit & view windows (not the regular save button in your browser menu bar).

I just posted a recording of "Hop Into My Rocket" to my MySpace Music page.
Once again, not the best rendition, but I am striving to record a song every couple of days.

Can't say I know or care much about sports - mostly just guys in colorful matching outfits running around and getting all sweaty before they all go and shower together.

However, I do agree with Old Doll regarding national anthems.  Mutual respect should be shown by players and fans.  Lyrics to 'The Star Bangled Banner' were set to a drinking song and it is a great howler of a song with several verses - but the first is the only one people ever sing (ufortunately).

Here is my favorite anthem because it is about how all people are united by respect.  Plus it is set to one of the all-time great melodies:

Hymn  For Nationstune; from Beethoven's 9th Symphony, 4th movement “Ode to Joyâ€

Anthem of the European Union (several versions exist in different languages)

Ouch!  Best to fess up to her, confess your undying love, beg her forgiveness, and find a luthier to see about repairs.  Even if you find somebody to do the fix, it will be gone for several days . . . she'll eventually notice and you will be in double-deep doo-doo unless you come clean about it now.

On the one hand, it's great your girlfriend plays guitar - on the other hand, female musicians are usually a fierce and fearsome breed.  Maybe if you offer up your guitar for her to smash it might let her vent her fury on it rather than you?

Bring the wounded instrument to your local music shop and see what they say and who they might recommend.

Hi Per,
The recent changes have made editing songs tricky.  For instance, on some lines it seems that {soc} and {eoc} commands are ignored.
Here is an example:
http://www.chordie.com/chord.pere/?url= … anspose=-2

Note that although the 'start of chorus' and 'end of chorus' commands are there, they are ignored in middle of the song.

No big deal, but curious and frustrating.

OK - here is my dark little secret . . . "Que Sera Sera" by Doris Day.
Catchy chorus, good verses, easy chords . . . good little song actually - but forever tainted by the smarmy perkiness of Doris Day.

I included it in my 'Ballads From Blondes' songbook:

Wow Zurf - you have made my day!  I get a lot of personal satisfaction from writing songs and it is really great to know that you also enjoy the music.

One of the first songs I put onto chordie's forum was "What a Friend We Have In Kitty" (a satirical take on "What a Friend We Have in Jesus").  Roger Guppy, who was brand new to the site, made a nifty little slide show video of the song:

Needless to say, I was thrilled that somebody out there in webworld liked what I had written.  Since then, chordie's Songwriting forum has attracted many talented and creative musicians.  The Songwriting forum is a great source for entertainment and inspiration for me also - James

Thank you all for your kind comments.  I have just posted a recording of "Box of Memories" to my MySpace Music page.  Not really the best rendition, but adequate to convey the melody and mood of the song.

Well, Toney - Years of intensive therapy and heavy medication have made the details a little fuzzy. . . .  No, actually I just latched onto the song idea while looking at the statue in the photo.  Seemed like it would be fun to write an 'anti-hero' song.  Since we all have embarrassing moments, I figured it would be a goog song topic.

Being a 'clueless geek' there are probably many things that I probably should be embarrassed about, but I'm way too busy having fun to much care.

That statue in the photo is of G.V. 'Sonny' Montgomery - he served in U.S. House of Representatives for many many years.  The 'Montgomery G.I. Bill' which funds higher education for military veterans was his brainchild.  He was an alum and a very good friend to Mississippi State University where I teach.

Great idea, mhebert - This is our local university station, WMSV 91.1 FM at Mississippi State University.
http://www.wmsv.msstate.edu/
Weekday evenings they have boring call-in sports shows with semi-articulate individuals jabbering about SEC sports for hours (who cares? not me!).

Otherwise they are playing nice variety of music with student DJs.
Sunday evenings they have an excellent blues show "The Juke" with is always chock full of great stuff.

They also play "Acoustic Cafe" and other great syndicated programs.  They also bring great live music to town - Paul Thorn is coming in October!  Since it is a university station, you are not constantly barraged with obnoxious advertising and assaulted by idiodic 'on-air personalities'.

Hi Roger - Actually, the details of the humiliation were purposely left to the imagination.  I can think of many embarrassing events in my life . . . thankfully, none quite of the magnitude to become 'local legend'.  Glad you liked this one - James

hi natejg - sorry to say that you cannot post directly to chordie.  Chordie is a search engine that finds, formats, and presents material posted elsewhere on the web.

Please go to the 'Resources' page to find more info on where you can post so that chordie can find your tab.  Chordie's index includes many sites - hope you can get your tab somewhere where chordie can find it.  James

daddycool - another tender ballad . . . one of these days the guys on your road crew will discover that you are a big, soft teddybear!  Very nicely said - you paint a lovely picture.  James

While on lunch break the other day, I was sitting on a shady bench and found myself gazing at statue of a famous guy.  Seemed like good fodder for a country-flavored twanger . . .

[G7]No [C]monument erected for [F]all eternity . . .

Yeah, there [C]won't be a [G]statue of [C]me

[G]My [C]story has earned me recog-[Em]nition

Some [F]people might [Dm]envy my re-[G]nown . . .

[G7]But re-[C]member statues are for [Em]heroes . . .

They [F]don't build [G]monuments for [C]clowns

So, there [F]won't be a statue of [C]me

There [F]won't be a statue of [G]me . . .

[G7]Ial-[C]ready have plenty [Em]notoriety . . .

So, there [F]won't be a [G]statue of [C]me

Hi Jeff - Amen, brother!  Very well said - I can echo your sentiments.  But you know, it is odd what kids remember.  Often, they will recall the seemingly most normal and unremarkable instance and cherish that moment fondly.  Another dandy song about real life - well done.  James

Hi Jeff - There is nothing as marvelous as domestic bliss!

Hi David & welcome to chordie!  This site is a great resource and the forum is a lively place.  There are some Texans here also - I'll let them introduce themselves.

This Songwriting forum is lots of fun.  We have regular contributors from the US, Britain, Ireland, Scotland, Portugal, Canada, and Australia - pretty much anywhere English is spoken.  I wrote songs for fun and post them here - when I get around to it, I record stuff and put it on my MySpace page.

Roger Guppy (another forum Moderator) has set up a 'Friends of Chordie' MySpace page for people who want to share recording but who don't have their own site.

Lots of very nice people here - look forward to getting to know you better.  James
