Count me in. I'm getting the same message.

Be very carefull, Zurf. These thing can slip up and bite you right on the arse. Something was causing these symptoms and you need to find out what is wrong. Complete physical covering hemmoroids to tonsils would be in order. Just make sure the doctor use's a different hand to check the different parts.

I speak from experience - I was having several early warning symptoms going on that were misdiagnoised for at least 2 months prior to my having a heart attack in May. We all think we are so big and strong and this will never happen to us but it does. Get yourself checked out and be safe!

The most important thing, in my opinion, is to be ready when its your turn. Don't get up on stage and begin scratching your watch or winding your butt. Be ready. Walk up to the mic, introduce yourself, get your set-up outta the way and begin your 1st song. If the crowd likes the song, thank them and begin your next song. Only do as many songs as you have time for, finish your set and make way for the next person.

It don't get any simplier than this.

Easy strum patern - down, up, down, up, down, up, down, up - repeat.
As you strum count to yourself (one on down - and on up).
Like this - 1 & 2 & 3 & 4 & repeat.

Pick and 3 chord progression in a simple key such as G, A or D.
Chords would be:
G - C - D (or D7)
A - D - E  (or E7)
D - G - A (or A7)

Strum the chords in a pattern (per chord) as follows - 1 & 2 & 3 & 4 &.
G....G....G....G....C...C...G...G...D7....D7....G....G.

Do this slow for now in all keys - Key of G - Key of A - Key of D. Speed will come later.

Once you have this pattern down, along with the counting, you will be able to play hundreds of songs.

THIS IS A 12 BAR BLUES PATTERN - VERY SIMPLE - AND EVERYONE WILL RECONIZE IT!

The key of E is probally the most common but I left it out due to it having a B chord (or B7) which is a dificult chord for a beginner.

Kap54, package will leave my house tomorrow morning headed to you. If the times hold true you should receive it in about 8 or 7 days. Let us know when you get it. I tried a couple of the picks I selected and I do believe my playing has improved. Hope you have the same experience.

My Takamine acoustic / electric connected to my Roland AC60 acoustic amp set to all the proper settings and you got a nice sweet sound. A electric guitar amp just does not do an acoustic amp any justice. An acoustic / electric guitar played thru a keyboard amp, a PA system or mic'ed will all produce a true acoustic sound. I haven't played an acoustic much while mic'ed  but I do know you are limited on your movement while playing. I'm sure someone else can comment more on this. I do know that with my AC60 amp, the higher you can get it off the floor the better the sound.

My fellow pickers and pickerette's. I done received dem picks. Got'em in todays mail. This is a real good thing that Topdown has got going and I apprieciate being a part of it. As I read Topdown' post, from a few day's ago, I see we have gotten away from how thangs were supposed to work and I want to be a part of getting it back on line. Since I have already committed to KPAP that he would be next after me I will be sending them on to him just as soon as I can make a decision on which picks I wanna keep and which ones of mine I want to part with. Anyone else who wants to a part ot this MUST wait until KPAP receive's the picks and THEN makes a a post stating that fact. Then and only then will the 1st person outta the millions and millions of Chordie fans to send KPAP a " I WANNA BE NEXT" post, be selected. I hope to be able to get the package out no later than Monday. KPAP, hope you are ready to browse through some mighty fine lookin' picks. Enjoy!

Just received an e-mail from KAP54 and he will be next in line, after me, to receive the picks. It appears that he is a very wealth man as he had absolulty no problem in writing the check although he did say something about me having some difficulty in cashing it.

KAP54, as I understand the workings of this project all you gotta do is be the 1st person who e-mails me their address, along with a certified check for $1,000,000.00 dollars and you will be next in line. You better hurry as I know everyone is out getting their checks ready to go out as I'ma typing this.

Hmmmmm, whats the conversion rate for US $$$$'s to Canadian $$$"s?

Try barring the D - G and B string at the 2nd fret with your index finger and fret the E string 4th fret with your pinky. This is called a "Long A" by older country musicians. This is a movable chord formation. Move fingering down 2 frets for a "Long B'" chord, move fingering down 1 more fret for a "Long C" chord and so on.

With a little pratice this becomes an easy chord to make.

I play rythem guitar and when I get to the instrumental part of the song I just continue playing the chords. These chords are usually the same chords in the verse of the song (either all or part of the verse) This works well with a good lead player as they complement each other. Also, by playing the chords thru the break it helps  my timing on when the singer need to come back into the song. Regardless of what most people think the rythem is what makes the song and everything else just add more color to the song. Here is an example;

My wife sings and I play rythem guitar while standing next to her. One of the songs we do goes =
Key of Eb
1st verse -
2nd verse
Chorus - Key change to Bb
3rd verse - Return to key of Eb
insturmental (solo) play chords of of 1st verse (16 bars) - Return to chorus
Chorus - Key change to Bb
3rd verse - Return back to Key of Eb.
Tag.

As a rythem guitar player ( at least for me) if I didn't play the chords throught the song  I would not be able to go from verse to chorus (key change), back to verse (key change again) as the song dictates. This also helps the singer kee their timing so they can come back into the song.

The chords for the key of Eb is played in a "C" progression with capo on the 3rd fret. For key change to Bb, play in a "G" progression. Thank the Good Lord for a CAPO.

Nela

Keep in mind when you are thinking about cost of an acoustic / electric guitar that you need to add the cost of a good quality acoustic amp. You can play thru a regular electric guitar amp but the sound will not be as good. Any guitar you buy WILL need to be properly set up to your playing style, as well as you going with as light a string as you can. Lighter guage strings will also help the fingers. Just as you want to play any guitar before you buy it you will also want to try different amps, with that guitar, before you make that purchase. Good luck.

Once upon a time I got to make a fishing trip to Alaska, as well. In a few words - THE PLACE IS HUGE AND BEAUTIFUL. We flew into Anchorage, rented a 4 wheel drive van and drove to Homer. (drive was worth the trip) We fished for Halibut and Salmon. No Salmon but limits each day on the halibut (only up to 55 pounds). Where else in this world can you fish while in you are able to see live volcano's? This is an amazing place!!!!

I agree that this would be a good idea BUT the I think we would need to be careful that it does not become too commerical or a place where someone outside of Chordie is wanting to sell you something. A good clean listing of informative sites would be a great resource for anyone wanting to work on their talent. I'm all for this.

Zurf, have you ever tried to play using the old cowboy chords "Long A" or "Long B"? It's a barre chord but is very simple and moveable.

For the "Long A" - barre at 2nd fret with index finger the D, G & B strings, use pinky on the high "E" string at the 4th fret.

For the Long "B" - same as above except move everything down 2 frets.

If I remember correctly, from your previous posts, your problem with the "B" chord is from a injury to your ring finger.

Anyway, I play with some "ole time" musicans and this is the only way they will make an "A" or a "B" chord.
