Mojo

Nice song.
What key is that in ?

for some reason the upload wasn't perfect - a couple times it flashes earlier pictures.  Oh well - I couldn't figure out why.

Give it a  view - let me know what you think.
It is also on sound cloud if you just want the recording, not the video.

Thanks for giving it a listen !
Jim

Awesome !
Congrats Brian

Just got my vote !!

I agree with Peatle - that is wickedly good!
It has some parts where it was like hysteria or excitement reached a crescendo
It left me wondering what could happen in that song to merit that.
I kept envisioning  crusaders coming back home to a castle.

Good stuff

Trev
Powerful lyrics - hope it's not based on experience.
It is really hard to tell if lyrics fit that soundtrack with out them being melded together.

Good stuff anyway man !
Cheers

Good one Peatle !

I did not know you were a UKE player.

Nice job

Jim

Ken

That is Hall of Fame in my book !!
Forget the $10 G's man - you've already got it ALL !!
Congrats on a beautiful song and a beautiful relationship with your wife !!

Thanks for sharing

Jim

P.S.   Let's hope the wife doesn't get the part where you might metaphorically call her an old piece of canvas!  smile

Great song buddy !

Ken
I never mind when folks here on chordie change things up and I certainly wouldn't be offended.
As I have stated many times - I am only a pretend musician wink  that happens to like writing song lyrics.
My knowledge of music is quite limited in terms of how it actually works, and my playing ability is less than that.
As to my singing ability-well there is none ! smile  smile   I am a cowboy chord guy at best.
I give free license to anyone here to modify and change genre of anything I write and I appreciate all the suggestions and help the kind gents and ladies on here have offered over the past few years.   I really miss Strummerboy Bill b/c he was so unique in his assessments and amusements !
Peatle always has some great insights as well in terms of lyrics.
We are so fortunate to have a group in this forum that has such a vast array of talent and interests in different genre.
Thanks for your taking the time to put my words to music.

Cheers to all for  Happy 2021 !
Stay healthy and keep the music coming.

Jim

after Phill turned me on to the phrase "it's a nightmare"
Phill also did a brilliant version of it and was working on a make over of it when CHordie went down last night.

With that being said - when I got up this morning I got playing around with  (mostly b/c I am not good enough of a musician and couldn't play the chords Phill was playing smile  ) it - and before I knew it - it morphed into a blues style song (which is  a lot easier for me). I am good with either version !

Anyway - this is my new version   which would not be possible without Phill !

Wretched Lives (It's A Nightmare) - Blues Version by Jim Kenyon and Phill Williams

.

(intro: [Em] [Em] [B7] [Em] finger picked)

Verse 1

[Em]Not a demon to expose your flaws

[Em]Nor a savage beast with bloody claws

[Am]only your worst fears, falling into place

and you've [Em] lost it all, your life’s a waste

And the [B7] whole damn world doesn't seem to care

It's a [Em]nightmare[Em]

.

Verse 2

[Em]gripped by the loneliness of a silent curse

[Em]constant reminders , that make things worse

[Am] you don't believe it, but yet you know

that there's [Em] no one to hold, there's nowhere to go

And the [B7] whole damn world doesn't seem to care

It's a [Em]nightmare , yeah [Em]It's a nightmare

.

Chorus

[Am]such is the fate of those with wretched lives

[Em]hopelessly waiting for their ship to arrive

[Am]haunted by visions of what their lives lack

[B7]they can't move forward, yet they [Am]never want to go[Em] back

.

(play intro again: [Em] [Em] [B7] [Em]finger picked)

Verse 3

[Em]Hurry to nowhere, like the aimless winds blows

In[Em] search of the comfort that someone else knows

[Am]every hour, every breath, your faith slip away

and you [Em]dread the darkness , that brings a new day

And the [B7] whole damn world doesn't seem to care

It's a [Em] nightmare , yeah [Em]It's a nightmare

.

Chorus

[Am]such is the fate of those with wretched lives

[Em]hopelessly waiting for their ship to arrive

[Am]haunted by visions of what their lives lack

they [B7]can't move forward, yet they [Am]never want to go[Em] back

[Em][Am] B7] [Em]

And the [B7] whole damn world doesn't seem to care

It's a [Em] nightmare[Em]

And the [B7] whole damn world doesn't seem to care

[Em]It's a nightmare [Em]

Excellent song and brilliant video production. Very well done guys !

Happy New Year !  Way to start us out Peatle and Phill !!

Cheers
Jim

I  thought I'd try writing something that might go into punk, gothic, heavy metal or something like that. (probably b/c Phill told me I was too "mushy " in my last song  smile )
But since I have no clue to how the music of that genre is written - I'll leave to some one else.
(maybe a hint to Beamer or someone ? smile  )

I don't know - but it was kid of fun writing it.
any comments or ideas to improve it would be appreciated
Jim

Wretched Lives

Verse 1
Not a demon to expose your flaws
Nor a savage beast with bloody claws
only your worst fears, fallen into place
when you've lost it all and life’s a waste

Verse 2
gripped by the  loneliness of a silent curse
constant reminders , make things worse
when you don't believe it, but yet you know
there’s no one to hold and nowhere to go

Chorus
such is the fate of those with wretched lives
hopelessly waiting for their ships to arrive
too scared to be bold, and face the cruel facts
and haunted by visions of what their lives lack

Verse 3
Hurry to nowhere, like the aimless winds blows
In search of  comfort that someone else knows
every hour that passes, and faith slips away
Dreading the darkness , which brings a new day

Nice one Ken !   Very Country !  quite descriptive and on target.  The guitar part was like a mix of several well known songs that I thought of- yet copying none of them!  Really good performance.
Keep'em coming my friend!!  Good stuff!!! smile

Ken, Phill, and Peatle

Thanks for giving it a look.
I'm not positive those are going to be the chords for it.
I'm still playing around with it.

yeah Phill - it may be a bit on the mush side..... but it was Christmas so I guess I was a bit emotional. smile
Peatle - just bring it from the heart - you will write a beauty I am sure.
Thanks again Gents  for giving it a look - I appreciate all comments.

I got up this morning thinking about my wife - so I wrote this

And There She Was by Jim Kenyon

[G]I’d never had too much luck with love

didn’t really believe in destiny or [D]fate

I was [G]just hoping for a little [C]happiness

and [G]wonderin’ how long it was [D]I’d have to [G]wait

.

[G]it was a summer’s day when I first met her

and I knew she was special from the [D]start

yeah her [G]smile, her eyes, the way she[C] made me laugh

those [G]little things that [D] sometimes will steal your [G]heart

.

Chorus

Oh [C]I wanted someone that could love me as I [G]am

Some[C]one who knows the best thing in life is [G] “us”

I [C]needed someone I knew I could always [G]count on

and one [D] day I turned a[C]round and there she [G]was

one [D] day I turned a[C]round and there she [G]was

.

[G]Can’t remember the first words that we spoke

but I'll always remember how she made me [D]feel

didn’t [G]know then that she would [C] mean so much to me

ya' know [G] sometimes it’s hard to be[D]lieve she’s even [G]real

.

[G]tomorrow when I wake up, i suppose she could be gone

just as seasons change and bring us something [D]new

but my [G]heart tells me we’ll always be[C] together

‘cause there ain't nothing [G] can change a [D] love that’s [G] true

.

Chorus

Oh [C]I wanted someone that could love me as I [G]am

Some[C]one who knows the best thing in life is [G] “us”

I [C]needed someone I knew I could always [G]count on

and one [D] day I turned a[C]round and there she [G]was

one [D] day I turned a[C]round and there she [G]was

.

yea, one [D] day I turned a[C]round and there she [G]was

mortgage lender, mortgage lender you ought to be ashamed
useless inspections, long distanced drives, I'm tired of your games
I told you everything you asked so you could make this sale a go
termite n' septic tests, and a title search - but now you just say no !

I'm looking forward to hearing it too, Phill.  But with all the angst and pain that your song evokes, it might be more appropriate to refer to them as "slay bells".  sad

Or "slayballs" in this case.   smile

Looks like a good one - I too am waiting for the "sleigh bells"  recording.
Jim

Fantastic Ken I love it - you should send it to some famous country singer see if they'd do a cover.

Well, would we expect anything different in this crazy year ?

We just got about 28" of snow dumped on us in 12 hours.

I think it should be noted as SNOWVID-20 !   smile
It is beautiful.  Wouldn't it be great if it was a Christmas miracle and somehow the snow eliminated Covid 19  ?
Be safe everyone.
