TP, not a problem. Let me know if I can help in any way. Through most of my career I've had to travel and be away from home. It's not something that's easy but I've done it so long my wife and I have become accoustomed to it. Not the best lifestyles but it does pay the bills.

Are there any CHORDIE members living in or around the New Orleans, La. area. I just went to work, there, and wanted to see if there are any members in the area. I'm working in the Gentilly area and living in Slidell.

Hey, Top. didn't we talk awhile back about work? Aren't you in the construction field? I lost my job back in Feburary so I'm well aware of what you are going thru. I just took a Project Superintendent' position on a construction project in New Orleans, La. so things are really looking up. From what I can see there is a lotta work opening up in the commericial construction field. here, and a qualified person should not have any problems in finding something. It's a 300 mile (one way) trip back home but I do have weekends off so it's not that bad. There is a lotta people, here, for the labor but management people are kinda in demand. Just a thought.

Put a lid on yore tuba if"n you gonna be out wid it. Good luck with the storm. Looks like most of it is gonna miss us. I am presently working in New Orleans and was not looking forward to being in this storm
When ever I think I will have difficulities on the homefront in purchasing something I really want I find lyin' works pretty good. Just remember a few phrases and they may work for you;
Look what I found on the side of the road on my way home.
I was driving behind this truck and it just fell off.
Look what I just won.
My buddy from work had an emergency and needed $50.00 so he pawned me his_____________.
Hey, look at what ole Joe just give me.
My boss is wanting me to keep this for a while so his wife won't find out about it. Can you imagine that?

Deadstring, forget a'nuther one. To My Mansion in The Sky (Alan Jackson' version) Key of "G"
Nela
For barre chords I find anything in the key of "C " (C, F & G) very helpful.
Nela
Deadstring, try Willie Nelson's version of Unclouded Day (Key of "F") for some quick chord changes. Just capo 3rd fret and play in "D".

Cam, I went through what you are going thru as this happened to me earlier in the year. Take my advise and DON'T wait too long in trying to locate that new job. Jobs today are scarce and the competition is great. It took me over 5 months just to begin getting contacts back from my resume. I would spend hours each day sending out resume', making contact with people I knew within the industry, (construction management) vbisiting the General Contractors located within my hometown, traveling to surrounding towns and doing the same. When all was said and done I had over 500 resume's sent out to various companies and even had contacted "headhunters" (at a cost to me) to help find employement. I did take one of the 1st jobs offered, as I was desprate and was very unhappy there. I am presently working 300 miles away from home, got a good job with what appears to be a VERY good company, and making GOOD $$$$$$$, with benifits.
I, too, had a nest egg saved uo for "rainy days" - IT GOES FASTER THAN YOU CAN IMAGINE - and takes even longer to build back up.

I'm located in Northeast Louisiana and am not sure just how many members there would be in a reasonable driving distance to a central meeting point. My guess would be to pick out regions (north, east, west and south) then choose a location central to that region and establish that as a meeting point. From there we could then send out feelers to members within those regions and find out who would be interested. As an example the South Central region could be East Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Alabama. (may have omitted a state or 2) From here we could establish a small group of folks to pick a central point, make arrangements at a campground and get things set up. Who's in?

Don't got no fancy motor home but I do have a real nice travel trailor. I know that that RV parks are scattered all across this country and most have a pavillion or 2 just waiting for a group of musicians to set up and play. (We have been asked to do this a couple of times at a State Park near us). Just as a suggestion, why not get a few of us together (via internet) and get some kinda planned "get together" ready for next summer? I'm located in Louisiana so, with a little help, I could begin setting up something for the "South Central" area. Whatta ya'll think about what I'ma thinking about?

For me, it's the hot, eager, young (female) groupies that is the most essential part of my playing experience. I just can't wait until I they start showing up.

I play a jumbo acoustic electric - Takamine - and it plays great. Regardless of what brand acoustic electric guitar you decide on thats only half of what you need. To get a good acoustic sound you will need a good quality acoustic amp. You will not get the sound you are looking for with an electric guitar amp. Playing through a PA system will work as well as a keyboard amp but an acoustic amp is the way to go. Do your research as there are many choices out there. I use a Roland AC-60 acoustic amp and and it has a really good sound and volumn.

Camdener, if'n that thumb pick was a white "Dunlop" it is possible that it came from my house, here in Louisiana. If it is or if it ain't - ENJOY!

wlbaya, kinda looks like the "Old Doll" done stuck her finger in yore face and is shaking it at you. Whatever you do just don't reach out and pull that finger.

Thanks, boy's and girl's. This song will put a smile on your face. Ain't it funny how some people will act like this is something they have never done or heard before.

Does anyone have the chords and lyrics for "The Big One" by The Confederate Railroad? If so. I would appreciate getting a copy.

Just making a post to this thread so it don't get lost.

Selso. just changed the strings on my acoustic, yesterday. Not sure if this is the right way or the wrong way but it works for me and is very simple.
My first step is to tune all strings prior to beginning.
Using my guitar stand to hold the guitar I start with removing the low "E" string, replacing it and retuning that string back to proper pitch. Next, is the "A" string followed by the "D" string and on and on until I finish all strings.
Before you start you will need to get a few simple tools out. String winder, tumer, pencil (use the pencil lead at the bridge and nut to eliminate the use of axle grease) and a small wire cutter.
As you change strings keep in mind that the tuners loosen by turning counterclock-wise and tighten by turning clock-wise.
Due to "string stretch" you'll have to keep checking your strings until they settle in but that won't take too long.

Deadstring, just where is this place of bidness located. If it's in your neck of the woods it can't be far from me. Might want to get by there and take a look-see, sometimes.

You can always carry them to Small Claims Court. If you loaned someone anything, and they had full care, custody and control, then they are responsible. You will have to pay a small filing fee but if you win, and you should, you will get that back. They would be responsible for full replacement, in like kind, regardless of the condition of the guitar when you loaned it to them. Be fair, ask only for replacement value and you should come out a winner.

What kinda guitar are you playing. If you are playing an acoustic guitar thru an electric amp then you won't get as good a sound as you would with a acoustic amp. Any way, I would start out with all knobs in the 12:00 position. From there you can add or take away the bass, reverb, treble or whatever until you get the sound you are after. Keep experimenting until you get that sound worked out.

Had a lot of problerm with breaking the "G" string on my Ibabez hollowbody guitar. Only strings I used were D'raddario PB's ultra lites. This went on for quite awhile and stopped when I had a complete "set-up" done on the guitar. I told the guitar mechanic all the problems I was having and what he found was a sharp burr on the bridge. A little filin', a little adjustment here and a little adjustment there, some fret polishing and $125.00 was all it took to solve the problem.
