CLOSE YOUR EYES, DRIFT AWAY AND DREAM.

I remember that I had some posters of CCR, LED ZEPPELIN & DEEP PURPLE.
I always wanted to be part of (roadie, guitar player, in fact everything to be close to:
1) LED ZEPPELIN the first song I heard was "WHOLE LOTTA LOVE" and I think that because they didn't have singles, it was the first album I bought. Followed by the SWEET, ZAGER and EVANS with "in the year 2525"
2) CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL = still one of my all time favorite bands. THIS BAND was responsible for many, many dreams. I played guitar in their band, OR IN REALITY "AIR GUITAR"
As extra bonus = what I found on the web. Do you know some of these bands?

In the summer of 2006 it was a real PLAGUE.
I believe I know correct sellers. I live in Europe, and Gibson and Fender are a lot more expensive here.
I bought a "Chinese Gibson" aware that it was a Chinese. Price = 10$ + transport 200$. I had that guitar for only 3 weeks because a former patient who visited me WANTED that guitar. He had only a low budget but he insisted so hard even after telling him 50 times that it was a Chinese. HE WANTED THAT GUITAR, and WHY? Because there was written GIBSON on the headstock.
He is still happy, he had a pair of EMG'S and replaced the originals. I didn't recognize that THIS WAS THAT CHINESE GIBSON I HAD BOUGHT. She played real great.
Are there today still "Chinese Guitars on the web, like on www.ebay.com?
In Europe: the only MAJOR BRAND is DUESENBERG made in Germany.
That guitar is relative unknown in the USA because Duesenberg USA started only in 2004.
This brand is the only brand that is more expensive in the USA than Europe and I think that this brand will be soon "the surprise of the year." It has it all, ART - DECO looks, versatility and a superb tone.

Well, I remove also ALL my strings at the same time, and 1 guitar was a kind of "victim".
After removing ALL strings the little E string made a metallic noise, it was to close to the fret board.
SOLUTION:
- I turned on the "bridge wheels" and problem solved?! I wasn't alone, I had a friend playing the "Hank Marvin" part, the lead.
He loves to analyze guitars and we both looked at the neck and didn't find a problem, the neck was completely in line with the body. So here we have set the bridge a little bit higher, but the real cause should be probably the 100% tension drop. We didn't start to work on the truss rod.
I know a guy, he is a professional "song smith" and played in a band (which I started up with my brother and his best friend on drums. A great time, thinking to be the king of the world everytime we had a song) my brother had to play bass (AND he didn't), because the second man also played guitar and is now session musician. That guy lives close to my house and tried some guitars, telling me your strings are dead.
It's unbelievable to play a guitar with brand new strings.

I found some interesting info concerning removing strings.
I think that I always make 1 big mistake = REMOVING ALL 6 STRINGS TOGETHER, followed by cleaning very well my guitar.
I read that this "removing all 6 strings is the worst thing you can do. All the strings give a reasonable "power" on the neck and headstock of your guitar, and if you remove them all, there is no more tension on the neck causing problems, because your guitar neck isn't not longer subject of the forces provided by the strings, and this can explain why after you put new strings they can sound bad because the neck position has been influenced. IS THAT CORRECT?

Isn't it crazy, I have so many guitars and I still can't change a string properly. I think that the problem started 20 years ago, when a string snapped in my face.
I DON'T HAVE A PROBLEM TO TUNE, I can even tune by ear, so, my question and probably not my question only is:

-  I remove all strings.
- I start with the big E string, how do I start, by putting it first in the home of the tuner, or first turn 2- 3 times before puttin it in the hole and than turn until the correct tone?

This looks stupid but most of my strings are really NOT AESTHETIC compared to those tuned in a store.
CAN I HAVE ADVISE PLEASE?

My apologies this might be a question that is answered very clear on the following site
http://guitar.about.com/od/beginners/ss … string.htm
but I don't delete the topic, because I want it "checked" by people with experience.

This is something I always wanted to know, and is it music related? Maybe.
It's about school.
In BELGIUM our system is:
- 3 years KINDERGARTEN.
- 6 years lower school from 1st class to 6th class, so you are 12 years when you finish this. Once there was also a 7th and an 8th class, and many, now old people, went to school until they were 14 years old. (It doesn't exist anymore)
- 6 years in, what we call here in college, from 12 years old to 17-18 years.
THERE ARE SOME OPTIONS AFTER FINISHING THIS:
- What we call HIGH SCHOOL = 2-3 to 4 extra years to become nurse, physiotherapist, and what we call here TECHNICAL ENGINEER.
- UNIVERSITY 4 years to 7 years. 7 years university is needed to become a medical doctor. 5 years to become a dentist or a lawyer (add 3 years here to defend people is it "bar"?).
In fact we are still the only "students" who get immediately the title of DOCTOR, so no extra thesis or dissertation.
I know nothing about how long it takes in the USA, but I've heard about SCHOLARSHIPS including MUSIC. How is the study system working over there? How many years would be neccesary to become a MEDICAL DOCTOR who can start working as a generalist? And what about SCHOLARSHIPS? AND the big names like
- STANFORD
- COLUMBIA (50.000$ a year??)
- HARVARD
- YALE
- PRINCETON
What is the difference between a lawyer from Harvard or Yale? WHY DO FAMOUS SPORTSMEN get a scholarship? Do they receive a DIPLOMA as well?
I heard that if you are A GOOD MUSICIAN you can get a scholarship, and these 2 examples I really don't understand. They give scholarships to musicians (OR IS THIS WRONG) to athletes?
I really would appreciate some information.

Russell I based this topic on the meaning of the word CASTER, sometimes also CASTOR (I believe that CASTOR is Latin for BEAVER). I studied Latin in high school but I forgot most of it.
MEA CULPA, MEA MAXIMA CULPA, I do write some really THINK TOPICS, and why not? I like them, because it gives really great answers.
There are so many things in life, like words we use everyday and we never stand still where that word originated. It is all so obvious, a word as TELECASTER. And yes Altex I forgot that TELE is a Greek word = from a long way, see TELESCOPE TELEPHONE (scope = a range of action or view) and (phone = voice). I am not hear to teach lol  The problem is that sudden I start thinking about something, in this case telecaster, even stratocaster, strato is a layer, (a second layer in the atmosphere above the Earth's surface). I find this genious to use such words for a piece of wood with strings.
Flatpicker ARE YOU FROM 1955? Because your nick sais FLATPICKER 55? I am from 1955.

I found by coincidence a big CHINESE site with tons of different guitars.
What is your opinion about these guitars, they look great, I don't know if they sound great or if the price is high, neither if these guitars are legal or not.

- Where should YOU place this style of rock?
- What was most important the LOOKS or the MUSIC.

I know it started more as a BRITISH PHENOMENON but the US bands where as important.
- UK = T-REX (Marc BOLAN) SLADE   GARY GLITTER (a kid-lover, it is unbelievable, and even being a medical doc, I don't understand at all what is going on in their heads, even with the knowledge that this was so called "natural" in Ancient Greece) DAVID BOWIE and even bands like THE ROLLING STONES. Who can forget MICK JAGGER'S face full of make-up.
I never understood why the "greatest ROCK band on earth" JOINED that club.
Also their behavior, called bisexual, and ANDROGYNY types. Sexual ambiguity was briefly in vogue as an effective cultural "shock tactic". David Bowie caused a media uproar in 1972 when he told the UK press he was "gay." I believe it was all "FAKE" WHAT IS YOUR OPINION?
WHAT IS IN FACT THE REAL TRUTH?: I don't have a clue, was MUSIC inferior at that time? Was "ATTITUDE" more important or was it all COMMERCIAL. If you see BOWIE now, dressed in fancy costumes. Did mister "average" Paul Jones aka David Bowie one of the trend setters, needed it to perform, being an actor in fact, by taking multiple personalities? What was the purpose? These guys wrote damned good songs.
In the USA we had KISS, always with make-up, LOU REED...
WHO CAN GIVE AN ANSWER ON THIS PHENOMENON?

To be honest this is a TT a think topic.
WHAT IS WHAT.

What I forgot to explain is that DUE to severe PHYSICAL problems I have to sit to play guitar.
Also that it is very difficult to follow class, because even when I sit I can't play longer then 30 minutes. I play 30 years (or more) and I have my own style. Since I am not longer working as a doc, and I am almost always at home, I don't play in a band. This results in playing alone.
Playing alone = no other player pointing you on loosing rhythm and I can't use my foot to "tap on the floor" so I have a pandora PX4D providing me the rhythm I want. About those friends they SHOWED me THAT I PLAY TOO RIGID, and since that comment I pay attention and I try to play with my arm and hand in stead of playing with a rigid wrist. More smooth (I DON'T KNOW IF I EXPLAIN THIS CORRECT OR AT LEAST BETTER. I used floor boards because I adore "heavy, muddy sounds, but the last months, I notice that there is no better thing than play "clean".
I told that I play more electric guitar since I started to use again that PX4D having a lot of rhythms on board and that I was very dissapointed to see/hear  that my rhythmic sense was a mess, but that this has improved a lot, using and following that RHYTHM RESULTING IN a pleasure to play guitar. I really don't know if I am alone (1), to play alone (2) it is fun to play in a band or with another guy. THIS RESULTS IN THE FACT THAT I PLAY 3x better, again with that PX4D, and that playing is a pleasure now.
- I CAN'T STAND RIGHT WITH A GIBSON AROUND MY NECK (due to a broken back, or vertebra)
- I CAN ONLY PLAY SITTING and I SWEAR that starts to hurt as hell too after 30 minutes.
- LOVING SO MUCH THE GUITAR and being LIMITED SO MUCH DUE TO MY PHYSICAL CONDITION gives me more reason to cry than to laugh and enjoy when i PLAY. I have to play in "blocks" 15 - 30 minutes and I'm exhausted, and this is in fact the major cause why I don't like music class or instruction videos. Before my accident I had at least 10 videos 10 books but since 2000, I don't have enough courage to use them. Same here on my PC a long answer or topic takes sometimes 4 hours before it's written (cause has been found end 2007, spinal chord is too narrow from my neck to my a**.) BUT I AM a "POSITIVO" even seeing, feeling that it gets worse month after month. A WHEELCHAIR is already in my HOUSE I believe this tells more than enough about how I feel.
I've got a great life, a real R&R life as doc too, but there are moments in my life where I ask myself to many WHY'S and WHATS. How good I try to make the best of it, it ain't easy and the sun don't shine always. Probably they will put me in hospital again and I am so scared, really scared. I hope this makes things more clear, I know it is CONFUSING but I FEEL CONFUSED.
LOVE AND PEACE

I have a MARTIN BACKPACKER. But this instrument's sound is far from a guitar sound.
I really don't know where to place that sound.
The neck is very thick and I believe that it can add a special sound connected with an amp.

Yes like teleCASTER, stratoCASTER.

I found this
1.  One that casts: a caster of nets.
2. also cas·tor (kstr) A small wheel on a swivel, attached under a piece of furniture or other heavy object to make it easier to move.
3. also castor
a. A small bottle, pot, or shaker for holding a condiment.
b. A stand for a set of condiment containers.

Serious that's a nice idea. BUT I AM STILL VERY FRUSTRATED BECAUSE I CAN'T PUT A SONG ON THE INTERNET. I have that BOSS BR 600, but the word tells enough BOSS!! No matter what I do I can't use it.

YEP and even MORE amazing is the fact that every "NEXT" album was BETTER than the album before.
ONLY THIS IS MORE THAN ENOUGH TO TELL "THERE IS NO BETTER BAND,"As musician, actor you are as good as your last album. Or movie.
CAN YOU NAME 1 BAND WHO'S NEXT ALBUM WAS ALWAYS BETTER THAN THEIR PREVIOUS ALBUM?
I don't think so

If you see some videos and you see SRV playing it is as he plays with his 2 fingers in his nose, and it seems that fender is the best there is.
See Jimmy Page and Gibson is the best there is.
Often I am thinking how guitar players are pushing a guitar into an interstellar level.
You almost forget that there are a lot of other brands.

ENDORSEMENT? The way to make a small brand big? Who would have seen that PRS is a damned good guitar if Paul Reed Smith wasn't so persistent to offer one to Carlos Santana.
I believe that if you perform a blind test with 20 guitars you would see different results.
The must have a Fender or Gibson... is it manipulation or reality COMPARED to other guitars?

Are these Chinese Gibsons still available? I remember me that 18 months ago you could buy a beautiful CHINESE GIBSON after reading 4 pages about the Chinese culture.
10$ for the guitar
300$  transport
and buzzing all over the place when plugged in. So a lot of guys changed pick-ups by EMG'S another 250$ and if you are lucky no refretting.
TOTAL PRICE = almost 600$ add 99$ and you have a Gibson LP Faded 699$
It is sad that a lot of young people did buy a CHINESE GIBSON, maybe to play CHINA GROVE see DOOBIE BROTHERS.
But now and then you could have a decent guitar.
MY QUESTION WAS: ARE THERE STILL "CHINESE FAKIES" in the running
What is your opinion?

RUSSELL & ALL OTHERS:
Can you believe that there are still people who actually respond such emails? They offer you 5.000.000$ and later "CRYING LIKE LITTLE BABIES". If that kind of spam would have RESPONSE they would have been disappeared a long time.
THIS PROVES AGAIN how GREEDY people are.
Here in Belgium we had a "world news" story. It started with " speaking and language" high tech software. In 2000 all this crashed. When they started to go public a share was let's say 2$ in 1996, 1 year later that same share was 20$ and it went up to 50$. I kinow people who invested 100.000$ to sell it later for 2.500.000$. Of course people who stepped in later, like 1999, paid already 30$ for a share. In stead of selling it at 50$ they waited AND THIS IS WHAT I CAN'T UNDERSTAND: when the share started to drop a few banks were tellingf to BUY. But CAN YOU BELIEVE that people took a mortgage on their house??? only thinking about the profit they would make. RESULT  = a lot of people lost a fortune and often that money is not declared.
Being GREEDY is horrible.  About "investment advisers" they should be the richest people in the world but ARE THEY?

TT = Think Topic. I really think this is a good topic.
A lot of bands DO have a masterpiece. I call it "MILESTONES" in music. This topic is about "cult - albums" and you will find them in every style, from pop to heavy metal.
These albums are responsible for their influence and even who changed the music scene forever.
This isn't about the "best albums"but about their INFLUENCE, and from which you can say WITHOUT this album there wouldn't be ....these artists.
PLEASE ADD SOME MORE ALBUMS
1) THE BEATLES with "SERGEANT PEPPER"
2) THE WHO with "TOMMY"
3) MICHAEL JACKSON with "THRILLER"
4) ROBERT JOHNSON with the compilation "KING OF THE DELTA BLUES SINGERS". Here I QUOTE, without JOHNSON NO Muddy Waters, John Fogerty, Bob Dylan, Johnny Winter, Jimi Hendrix, The Yardbirds, Cream, Led Zeppelin, The Allman Brothers Band, The Rolling Stones, Paul Butterfield, The Band, Neil Young, Warren Zevon, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Robert Palmer, Jack White and Eric Clapton, who called Johnson "the most important blues musician who ever lived. THIS IS A REAL LONG LIST and I was so surprised that I posted a lot of musicians who claim that they owe almost everything thanks to Robert Johnson (strange fact: I know the man, but not his music)
5) BOB DYLAN with "BRINGING IT ALL BACK HOME" "HIGHWAY 61 REVISITED" without DYLAN ???
6) BEACH BOYS with "PET SOUNDS" no comment.
7) DAVID BOWIE with "The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars"
8) JIMI HENDRIX with "ARE YOU EXPERIENCED" without him NO SRV, Lenny Kravitz and a lot more
9) PINK FLOYD with "DARK SIDE OF THE MOON"
10) NIRVANA with "NEVERMIND"

Please complete this list, I forgot a few like "THE ROLLING STONES" "LED ZEPPELIN" "DEEP PURPLE" (with their album DEEP PURPLE IN ROCK) and what about "QUEEN".

Why the subdivisions?
- Bands as Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath are in my eyes NO HEAVY METAL bands, they are often "labeled" as METAL bands, which leads me to the conclusion that there is probably a thin line between these kind of bands and metal bands.
I COUNTED 19 DIFFERENT METAL STYLES, from Folk metal to gothic, trash, speed metal and many more.
I saw once a concert of the band SEPULTURA, and I hated the style they had = voice, very fast and really noisy.
MY QUESTION IS = Can you consider THIS STYLE AS MUSIC?? Same for Anthrax, Motorhead.
- Bands like Crowbar, Acid Bath and Eyehategod = SLUDGE METAL
- Queensrÿche = PROGRESSIVE METAL
- Slipknot, Linkin Park, Korn = NU METAL
I can go on but in fact the only decent METAL is probably NU METAL, because you get at least more melody compared to a lot of others where you don't find a melody.
Just STRUM as hard as you can, lower your strings and there you go. Nobody understands what you sing and they all look the same.
The ONLY music style where a lot of songs sound the same = BLUES. I have a lot Fleetwood Mac albums, and on 1 album song number 5 started COMPLETE IDENTICAL for at least 40 seconds as song number 4.
PLEASE TELL ME HOW YOU THINK ABOUT METAL.
It would be great to read other opinions because, even working very hard on this topic, especially looking for some bands, listen to some songs is what I DID so this is SUBJECTIVE, even with trying to be OBJECTIVE by searching so hard.

I saw this on the news yesterday.
There is an Italian Heavy Metal band who's singer is a Capuchin MONK
Dressed in his traditional brown robe, sandals and twirling the rope around his waist, 62-year old Friar Cesare Bonizzi is no ordinary heavy metal rocker.

I couldn't believe my eyes and my ears.
I also don't think that the typical Rock&Roll words = sex, drugs and rock & roll are part of his lifestyle.
I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO THINK.
- It's hilarious
- It's a very good metal band
But who am I to judge.
ARE THERE CHORDIANS WHO KNEW THAT BAND BEFORE I WROTE THIS TOPIC? Here a link
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-yIABqB … re=related
I didn't find real good video's about that band on youtube.

Are there guitars who are more specific for the "art" of fingerpicking.
I read an article where people claimed that SANTA CRUZ guitar are real finger picking guitars, and less used to strum songs.

SO THE QUESTION IS: ARE THERE GUITAR BRANDS GIVING BETTER RESULTS FOR FINGER PICKING?
I compare 2 expensive brands.
a MARTIN D-45V versus a SANTA-CRUZ model like the "FIREFLY"?

I saw a video on YOUTUBE after searching SANTA CRUZ guitars, the TONE SOUND in finger picking style were so beautiful.
Is the difference more clear using a dreadnought versus an orchestra model.
Let's take a MARTIN OO28 versus a MARTIN D-28?

I have a pretty guitar collection.
PRS
GIBSON LP CUSTOM (one from 1968, the other from 1978), a LP SUPREME and a STRAT + a TELE.

Since I started to play that guitar, the Duesenberg 49er, I still can't compare this guitar with the others.
In fact my best guitar has always been that PRS custom 24.
I had some friends who came to see me, we all tried these guitars I mentioned with unanimous votes THAT IS THE BEST SOUND THEY HEARD.
So 4 weeks later the 49er is my favorite. AMAZING SOUND, TONE, VERSATILITY AND THE LOOKS ART-DECO. She has a single coil and an humbucker.
I have played many guitars, except GRETSCH (WHO CAN TELL ME MORE ABOUT GRETSCH?) and this 49er beats them all.
THIS IS OF COURSE MY OPINION AND OF COURSE SUBJECTIVE.
You can see the guitars on www.duesenberg.com, where you can hear the sound, OR on YOUTUBE.
