I also like the "Butcher Block" natural finish. Just something "clean and pristine" about it. "It's a clean machine", in other words. smile Eric Clapton's original was a Sunburst, IIRC. Complete with cigarette burns and scratches. And guess what? Someone just had to issue a "commemorative" model to look exactly like that. WHY????? smile

For Roger: The finish of the guitar is called "Transparent Amber", and I have seen pictures of your menagerie, and know of the incredible amount of caring for "Bella" to keep her alive and healthy. Even if you and I had not met here, Roger, I feel we would be the best of friends because of that love for animals we both share.

For Amy: Ditto for you, "Enkelkind". Maybe one day you'll rescue another kitty. There's probably a way to discourage the dog from eating the kitties, but I don't know of one right off-hand.

We lost our Bert due to Feline Diabetes. It just snuck up on him, and even though we did everything we could (our Vet has his clinic right across the street), his blood sugar constantly stayed above 100. I have had several "spiritual visitations" from my friend. Little kitty "nudges" on my back and the thought "Better go see about Mom (Dondra)" as clear as a bell in my head. Sure enough, I went to her bedroom where she needed some help seeing some phone numbers. Not earth-shattering, I know, but still......... If you remember, the stroke she had affected her eyesight.

I am not done grieving yet, but my wife is asking for us to rescue another cat after the first of the year. Maybe we will, but until then, we're being pet-less.

Thanks for everything smile

Did you notice Greg's 8 string handmade Alembic bass? WTH???? I really need to get over myself!!! Every time I see the man play, I start to tear up. This is true for my ELP DVD's as well. It must be that look on his face as he just stands there and makes his music. He seems to be lost in the moment and one wishes one could get a look inside his head.

This is ridiculous! Didn't even know the guy, not listening nor looking at him and my eyes are welling up again as I type. I guess this is what happens when one gets old and demented! smile

Yeah, Jim. Soundcheck. I hope they were warmer during the actual performance.

"There's no accounting for taste", I believe is the saying, Joey³, isn't it?

The lead singer in the band I was in as a teen just HAD to have a Gretsch Country Gentleman, and he had saved up however much they cost in 1965. Only thing was, the music store (only one within about 60 miles) he went to only had a sickly looking green one. He wanted one so badly he bought it even though it wasn't the color he really wanted (red). We (the rest of the band) hated that awful thing, but we never said anything, because he was a dang good guitarist! smile

Hey Anne! smile

I watched the video and agree: their voices are so tight in harmony and the song is paced in such a way that it does make it hard to catch the words. May I offer a suggestion?

They're on Facebook and seem very open to their fans. I wonder if you could post a message there? After all, if I were a singer, I'd damn sure want people to know what I was singing, right?

Sorry I can't be of more help, but welcome to Chordie. smile

Thank you my friend! That was some interesting reading and I will be visiting his blog again, because I have some questions about the Mosrite Guitar Line. I fell in love with those pretty things when I first saw them being played by The Ventures! Now they're no more, although Nokie Edwards did bring out his own line of guitars which are very similar. I was a drummer at that time (age 15) with my very first group named "The Volcanos" - we deliberately misspelled the name so it would match the same number of letters beginning with "V" and ending in "S", and we played only instrumentals. Good times, but even then I loved the Mosies because of their headstock and those three cuts.

What the heck did I know??? I was just a 15 year old. And a drummer to boot. I knew NOTHING at the time about playing a guitar; only if you had one around your neck you were the coolest guy in school, and if you were a drummer, you just sat at the back and "kept the beat". Until it was "Wipe-Out" time, of course. smile

So thanks again, Doug for that link!

My signature line has been amended (wink-wink, nudge-nudge >>> say no more)! smile smile smile

I'd take my new guitar to bed with me, but I'm afraid I'd roll over on her!  smile

Lord, please let me be deserving of this kindness to me.

........ especially if the finish is flat (not shiny). Sorry if you have one, but if you do then probably you have a finish which you don't like either.

So what do you say, Chordians? Have a finish or color you don't like?

Thanks

Note left for both of you on the Cloud. I really liked what you did with the lyrics and as I wrote in the note, with a full band this is radio stuff.

Dondra and I met Mr. Reed at Opryland during what is known as "Fan-Fair". Dondra was writing a Country Music Column for the magazine "American Trucker" at the time and we got to sit with him in his tour bus while she interviewed him. He was just about to release "Goldmine" and gave us a signed album. One of the greats and I'm glad he got away from the studio musician gig and went solo!:)

Nice, badeye smile

Bill

A note left for you on YouTube my friend. I really liked the story about your grandfather and thank you for sharing it with us. If it makes you feel any better (and it's not the same thing), I can't get through a certain Johnny Cash song without choking up (okay, bawling then!!! smile  )

Cuz... the kitty is awful cute, but... HAPPY NGD!!!!  wink  How's it play???????  Do ya love it??????

Thank you, my honorary "Granddaughter". That's Bert ("Bertram") my "Outlaw" friend from 7 years ago whom I rescued (when I was single and needed a friend) and whom we lost 3 months ago. THAT picture is the one we have hanging in both our bedrooms, by the way. I know a lot of folks don't care for cats, but  Dondra and I have always had dogs AND cats and remember all of them and their names.

And, as stated before I now have a new friend whom I will always treasure. Hugs to both of you and if Jim doesn't like hugs from guys, tell him he gets that ol' brotherly slap on the shoulder. smile

I'm still in 7th Heaven!!!!!

Folks, Amy and Jim surprised me today with the Fender guitar you see on the right next to my Epi Les Paul. (PLEASE SCROLL UP) I did NOT expect such generosity from folks I haven't even met, but that just shows my lack of knowing how very kind Chordians are!

I name my guitars, and the newest one of course is named "Amy" and will always remain in my possession as the best Christmas present I have ever received (even better than my "Red Ryder" BB gun I got as a kid and never shot my eyes out with) smile

Amy and Jim, we both thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Especially Dondra who was growing tired of me walking around the house playing "air guitar".

And to answer your question, she plays just fine and I have already begun getting my fingers calloused. I am currently practicing the song "Cotton Fields" and will re-write it a bit for my Kiwi and Aussie friends.  Did y'all know that Creedence did that tune in just A, D and E?

The action on the guitar is just right for me and I love everything about her. Especially how and from whom she came.

With Sincere Gratitude!

Bill and Dondra Craig

PS: A picture or two showing me playing "Amy" (that doesn't sound right, does it? smile smile  ) will be forthcoming as Dondra will be filming me as we record the song for our Christmas Message to all of you!

Very dramatic title, I like it. You allude to this mysterious recording when do we get to hear it?

I'm sorry Bill but I have to disagree with you. It's not the"hero?" Who is planning the shooting but the girl's fella ref 38 in my face?
Is it unrequited love or is the hero a stalker? So many variables. Every answer asks a question. Well done.

Phill

I'm ready to hear it as well, Phill, and the fact that we disagree on the meaning just speaks to the "mystery" of the whole thing. Scott, so many of you, in addition to being great musicians and lyricists lead one to believe you also have some unfinished (or finished) novels tucked away somewhere. If not, then where's all this imagination coming from? smile

"HandArbeit" means it was "handmade" (I believe you may have misread the "a" as an "e"), Zurf and "Garmisch b. (bei) Mittenwald" means it was made in the town of Garmisch NEAR Mittenwald. You have yourself a very nice instrument there, my friend!  smile

APOLOGIES OFFERED TO MY FRIEND BEAMER (SCOTT)!!!!

Sorry for the caps, but I needed to make sure y'all saw this.

My reply to you, Scott was, to say the least, a little snippy and this morning (after a night of a little too much red wine and trimming the tree, Christmas Carols and listening to my Chordian Friends) I looked at what I had written and thought to myself...... HUH???, and then I read it again and my imaginary friend (you'll learn more about him later) Noah Effingway, said , "Yup, you wrote that, you dip!"

So here I am, hat in hand (again) asking forgiveness from someone I don't even know personally, but consider as much a part of my family as I do my own and the rest of the Chordians.

I really am sorry, Scott....

Yeah, well, it's no "My Favorite Things" is it, scott?

A very dark song for sure, and I commend you for not revealing where it's going.

Personally, I think the protagonist is getting ready to kill.

It's just too repetitive  and "grey".

It tells me something bad is about to happen.

Sorry, but that's how I read it.
