Just Kiddin ya Pix,
I never have liked the nano webs, I've been using the polywebs for 10 yrs and really like them. I would buy them by the 10 pack and they were only about $10. but you can't find them for that anymore.
I am just recording a song that I slide up from the open position to a barred B-7 and it sounds kinda cool with the EXP"s but I know what you mean if your doing all barre chords noisy strings don't sound good. I've gotta go practice some more Cowboy Chords

Sorry
I was just wonderin if it is just the seniors that get a kick out of this kinda humorous song. I honestly thought you were in your 30's by your pics but you have revealed your age in other posts. I promise to have better manners in the future .
I thought Old Farts kinda went along with the song tho.

Hey Kenny,
I will have to post a song I wrote real similar about a girl that messed her pants at a campfire party years ago, she had white hot pants on. I will dig all the lyrics up and post in the correct forum. A true story too !

Re: EXP vs Elixirs (11 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
I know what your saying about the soundholes, I good test on acoustic electric guitars like the Yairi and Takamine that have the electronics mounted on the top of the guitar. I have taken the whole electronics box out and play with out it and it is a huge difference. I am not ready to cut a hole in my martin yet tho.
If people have sat 10' in front of someone else playing their guitar I am sure they have been surprised how full the sound is. That;s the sound I have been trying to capture with recordings.
17 sets for $75. is a steal, I hope you sleep ok

Re: EXP vs Elixirs (11 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
Kinda weird with the Martins isn't it i have tried Elixir, EXP's, Gibson, and others but it likes Martin SP strings. I have had the exp's on my Yairi for quite a while, I am thinking about 2 month's but it hasn't been played alot . I was just thrilled with the recording I did today, I'm learning a little more all the time. Today was the first time I have ever recorded any of my guitars that I thought sounded good, some of it is the Yairi electronics and some of it the strings.
Yairi's are a very special breed, I am lovin that guitar more all the time. I put a B-Band pickup in the epiphone and with a new set of Exp's I am gonna do some recording and see how it stacks up. I have a LR Baggs I-Beam pickup in my Martin and the only way to record it is with a condensor mic.The pickup seems to work ok live through amp or PA but records terrible with the pickup
Let me know your thoughts on the EXP"s after you give them a go, I only tried the nano-webs one time on the Yairi and I took em off and threw them in the garbage. Now after trying so many strings and seeing how different guitars react to different strings I should have tried them on something else.
The reason I have been doing alot of recording, I like to hear my guitar from a listener's perspective. It seems the guitar always sounds different when your out in front of the soundhole, and it's hard to be there when your playing it.

Re: EXP vs Elixirs (11 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
Heya Pix,
I think you will find some guitars they sound better on than others, my Yairi sounds good with both elixirs and EXP'S . I honestly think tho the EXP's have a little more clarity and maybe a bit brighter. On the HD-28 I don't use Elixirs. I put a set on and didn't like them and I have tried Exp's also but I think it sounds best with Martin SP strings. On my Masterbilt Epi it likes both elixers and exp's.
I honestly can't tell you what are the best between the two. I am speaking for the Elixir Polywebs and I do not like the Nano-web
the polywebs start fraying but they last a long time even tho they look bad, I have a set of EXP"S on my Yairi and I just did recording using a pedal into Audacity and it was really nice and clean.

Re: Harmonica (4 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
I play alot in the key of G and A so those are the first ones I bought when I stepped up to the better harps. I now have good ones in G A C D . It just depends on what key you like to play and sing in. I also play alot of songs in Bb so I will have to get one in time.
You can crossharp and use one diatonic harmonica for 2 keys, I haven't got into that much I just get a harmonica for the key I'm playing in. I remind myself of watching people learn the fiddle it is pretty ugly to start with. The better harmonica's in my opinion anyway allow you to tone it down a little and sound better with less effort.
Most instruction books use the key of C so that would be a good one to begin with.
When playing guitar it is hard to do a guitar solo and keep the rhythym going. When playing with harmonica, just keep playing the guitar and do the solo with harmonica. It is Fun

Just thought I would give a progress report on how the harmonica's going. I have been messing with it for a couple years. About 2 months ago I purchased a harmonica holder and that is what opened the door and got me hooked on learning. It is so much easier to learn while playing guitar for me anyway.
I have been experimenting with different brands and models and I have moved up from the inexpensive models that come with instruction books to the Hohner Hot Metal series, and tryed a Suzuki Folk Model I didn't like this one , I also have a couple Hohner Blues Harps.
After doing a lot of surfing the net It seems the Hohner Special 20's are alot of folks favorites, so I tried one and it will be the one I will be using until something better comes along. The Blues Harp sounds nice also but it has wooden combs and the Special 20's have plastic combs. THey both sound good but I prefer the way the 20's feel in my mouth. Both the Special 20's and Blues Harps are around $ 30-$ 40 dollars.
My wife said the Blues and Special 20's sound so nice in comparison and I can hear the difference too.
Been having alot of fun with it anyway

Re: 15 Great Guitar Players (4 replies, posted in Acoustic)
That is an impressive bunch but if the list were mine I would include in no particular order cause there are a lots and lots of good pickers out there.
Tony Rice
Monte Montegomery
Merle Travis
Doc Watson
Robert Johnson
Leo Kottke
Eric Clapton
Jerry Reed
I don't think any one guy is better than others , these guys make me sit up and take notice and everyone has their favorites. I think fellas like Merle Travis, Doc Watson and Chet Atkins lead the way for alot of the great talent that's here today.
I'm workin hard too Benson but I don't think I have enuff time left in this go round

Howdy Again,
Lena, I had a great singing partner that sang that one with me. She was married to my wife's brother and their marriage failed so I lost my singing partner. I am on the lookout for a new one.
Cam, That's a good tune and I also have added that one to my Prino list.
I had a friend that I grew up with and through the years we sang all the songs off John's first album.A few years ago he come home very sick after about 15 yrs of ramblin and gettin in way too much trouble to spend some time with me before he passed on.I played "Sam Stone" for him and I will never forget how happy it made him. He didn't know I had been playin guitar since he left. Anyway music is a great healer and bridges many gaps.
Wouldn't it be great to get together and share some John Prine songs. If you are ever in wyoming drop in set a spell, and we'll be jammin:)

Hey Tops, Do you think when my turn comes around I could throw in some thumb picks I have quite a variety, but it will make the package thicker. Seems like you have to buy every kind made before you can find the right one.
