Hey Pix that's a good tool to have. Alot of players can use a chart like this for to keep us in the right key while playing chord progressions. You can use it to transpose with also. Thanks

sadly it's missing the sharp/flat keys so it's not much good for transposing as you have to remember about any tones in between... sad

nice try anyway...

I do a "save page as" in firefox and have the entire page and all graphics saved locally... it even saves most of the scripts so you can open the local copy in your browser and still use the auto scroll speed thingy...

sadly, transposing doesn't work on local copies...

52 going on 32 it seems... been playing bass since 49 and guitar last 8 months. Guitar's more fun... people recognise the tunes...

dabbled a bit with electric guitar back in my twenties... never really got the hang of it... wish I'd persevered though...

strings and amps are a given... we're talking about things other than what is actually needed for sound to ensue when plucking the strings...

I picked the Boss Micro BR because it allows me to record my musings when I'm just banging out some chords for inspiration... allows me to get a rough framework down for working with...  also allows me to play quietly using headphones and jam along to mp3's with the speed slowed down and the pitch remaining the same. It also allows me to pitch shift an mp3 so I can jam along without having to retune or fit a capo...

Hey manicbassman, What kind of stand is that acoustic Tanglewood bass on in your bass pic?

haven't a clue... there's no brand badge on it, just "Made in China". I got it because it folds up nicely, looks good and was cheap and actually in the shop when I was looking for a folding stand.

OK, subsequently tracked it down:

although I don't remember paying that much for it...

with the pound crashing against the Dollar and Euro, prices of new guitars has risen badly... even supposedly English makes (made in China really)... there's no way now I can afford a new Fender or Gibson... even secondhand Fenders & Gibsons have gone up in price...

so basically I don't have the luxury of choice anymore... I'm currently saving up to treat myself next birthday with a new Gretsch hollowbody with Bigsby...

I had a play in my local shop and fell in love with it...

in order to even afford that, I'll have to trade in one or two of my other guitars...

I'll be sad to see my Tanglewood TH502 go (a Gibson ES335 clone)

I have an Ebony one of these (ivroid bindings, chrome hardware)

wonder what they'd be like with a humbucker in and a solid sustain block in the middle...

although beautiful, the neck joint scares me...

nice music, but it's not really a transatlantic session though... I think latency is still too bad to do live links ups with musicians in different locales...

Hi, I'm 52, from Gloucester, England... been playing Bass last three years and guitar the last 6 months...

it ain't a pick holder cos he's got one of those on the lower horn... but it definitely looks just like the thing on Miley's guitar

I see his bassist has also got one...

strange as she's got a pickup in the guitar already as there's a lead going into the endpin jacksocket

Here's my one and only song... just lyrics... haven't come up with a definitive tune for it...
I put some standard chords in just to give people an idea

At the moment, I'm doing it as an E5/E6, A5/A6 shuffle with the last two bars as a turnaround walking down to finishing on a B5 chord. There's lots of blues standard tunes that fit sort of...

Carved in stonea blues

preferably as a Robert Johnson style shuffle

the lyric lines generally are sung in the first two bars of each 4 bar line

[E7]He looks down on me, down from up on high

[A7]He looks down on me, down from up on high [E7]

[B7]Tells me that he loves me, [A7]loves me as his own [E7]

He looks down on us, down on every one

He looks down on us, down on every one

Tells us that he loves us, each and every one

Black, brown, red or white, it don't matter

Black, brown, red or white, it don't matter

Don't matter what colour, we're all the same inside

Body bags coming back, from a far off place

Body bags coming back, from a far off place

Last post is playing, over names carved in stone

So why are we all killing, killing in his name

So why are we all killing, killing in his name

Have we all forgotten, what he wrote upon the stone

That's a capo.  It's an easy way to change the key of a song (without knowing music theory).  You put it on a fret (across all strings) and pretend that is your nut then play your chords.  It raises the pitch up.  They come in all different styles from screw on's to clamp on's.  Kinda nice to play around with.

I know what a capo is... there's one in use on the neck... smile

I'm asking about the brown object attached to the front surface of the upper bout of the guitar just above the soundhole...

don't forget, you can always vary the strumming yourself and hit the bass strings on the first down beat and the treble strings on others... there's no law that says you have to hit all six on each pass... smile

PS. anyone know what that thing is on the upper bout of her guitar?

PPS... that one always cracks me up... I miss my son, he'd be 16 now...
