Can't You See..  easy, easy easy...

When I first started out - my uncle showed me 3 or 4 chords.. in the key of C if I recall..  From there I could play just about any Hank Williams tune out there..  (this was a while ago by the way)..  so I'll say my first song was Your Cheatin' Heart.  Still a classic.

Great story MKM..  I too play out, the hired girl if you will..  nothing like it.  It's almost addicting.  All the others that actually know you and have heard you..  nothing but pats on the back..  congrats!

Hey Deadstring..  that's an interesting concept.. I don't have trouble playing barre chords so that could be an option.  Never did anything with open tuning but I will look into that.. could get me thru for a while.  thanks.

All..  I've posted here before about some hand/finger ailments.  Seems now I have what looks like a plantar wart on the tip of my index finger.. left hand.  I CAN'T PLAY!  It is so painful.  Been to the doc.. they 'froze' it but it is still quite painful.  I has to miss a gig last night and probably tonight.. I simply cannot play.  Saw something on line called Rock Tips.. anyone ever try this?  Been playing guitar over 40 years... can't imagine being sidelined by this.  Has anyone ever had something like this..  ?  Appreciate your advice..  Deb

Currently working on Marry Me by Train..  we're doing a wedding soon so I think it'llgo over well.

JJJ.. great post.. and oh so true.  Great time to get some new tunes down.  As for that 5.8 earthquake in the Wash DC area..  the office building I'm in shook like a ragdoll.  It was unnerving to say the least..  now if this hurricane could just wipe out the stinkbugs!  Be safe folks...

Hey Bluejeep...  oh yeah.. my fingers get cold and turn white.. and sorta numb..  it is not a good thing.  I had a gig last week and my first finger was numb throughout the first set..  playing an F chord was very uncomfortable.. but I got around it by using a barre chord instead.. I'm going for an MRI soon so maybe there will be an answer.  Crazy to say but I'm hoping for a pinched nerve or something.. as there is no remedy for Reynauds..  I can't even imagine not being able to play the guitar..  that's just crazy talk..

thanks Pete..  yeah I saw the doc last week..  sending me for an MRI on neck.. I guess to rule out pinched nerves or something..  pressing on in the meantime..

Hello Folks..  I recently have been suffering from something called Reynaud's Syndrome where the ends of my fingers turn white and tingly/numb.. once the color does come back my fingers can ache a bit.  Needless to say, this is a major problem when doing gigs..  or just playing guitar.  I am beyond bummed out about this.  I have been playing guitar for literally 40+ years and as of the past 3 years been playing gigs.  Has anyone had anything like this and if so, any advice?
Thanks... Deb

Had the pleasure last evening to see an outstanding guitar player...  saw Gillian Welch along with her sidekick, Dave Rawlings..  this guy is an amazing flatpicker.. along with his 1935 Epiphone Olympic archtop guitar - simply outstanding.  And the venue, The Strathmore Music Hall in Bethesda Maryland..  wow.. a great evening of some great music..  So, today - my  guitar hero is Dave Rawlings...  keep strummin'

SS..  I can only play tunes like I've Been Working on the Railroad and Oh Suzanna type stuff..  but one of the guys in the band plays a mean harp..  adds alot to our gigs - especially the Neil Young covers we do..   its alot tougher than one would think.

Hello All..

I notice folks have a member status along with their posts..  I am curious how that is determined.. I see Moderators - of course, but then there's Senior Members, Honoured Members..  Members..  How does that work?  Just wondering..

Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol is pretty easy..  as is Harvest Moon by Neil Young - an all time fave.  Good luck..  probably whatever you were to play, the object of your affection will be quite happy... its all in the delivery..
