Hi Guys, I believe you must convert to .wav to be able to play your recordings in you car. Although there are car stereos that can play .mp3, most of the older vehicles cd players will not. I know that my truck(2000 Dodge) cd player will not play .mp3 (I've tried). You can usually get 15 to 20 recordings on a cd in .wav format, but if your looking to put more than that on one cd you might think about getting one of those portable .mp3 players and an adapter for your car stereo. Hope this helps smile

Some of the tools you'll need is a program to edit your tracks, Audacity seems to be the most popular it's a free download at http://audacity.sourceforge.net/    I would probably go ahead and download this program then go through Russell's tutorials because he explains everything you'll need in detail and all the tutorials are for the audacity program. You can get the tutorials at http://www.mediafire.com/myfiles.php?r=ippam

Hi guitarrock,

Glad to hear you want to get into recording, it's loads of fun. There are a few ways you can accomplish this task depending on what you want to do. You can do the recording yourself probably with the equipment you already have, just follow the tutorials that the MOD- Russell has put together in a sticky on the recording forum. Don't worry this process is not expensive, as a matter of fact, it is almost free. That's the way we like to do it,,,,, Also if you want a full band sound, and don't know how to play all the instruments, there are several musicians here on the recording forum at chordie that are willing to put their instruments to your music. There's vocalists, drummers, bassists, guitarist, tuba players, mandoline players, and the list goes on. Also there have been several chordians who will even do the producing for you, so whatever your looking for I'm confident you can find it here on chordie. This has been accomplished a few times on chordie with great success, and I know there are several of us here that have been looking forward to doing another project. If you need any help with getting started or anything along the way, don't be afraid to ask here on the recording forum because chordians are the most helpful and friendliest folks on the planet.

I'm going to feel like a real dummy if St. Patrick was not the guy who ran all the snakes out of Ireland hmm.  I'm sure some of the fine folks that live in Ireland will correct me if I'm wrong

Hi 06,

Since you guys are just getting started, I would probably just use mp3. It is true that the quality is not as good as .wav but it will probably be easier using mp3 and most emails should handle these files. This will keep you from having to obtain another account on another website. I think g mail will allow up to 10MB files but I'm not sure. Like Doug and Russell mentioned, you might want to keep in mind the website "mediafire" in case you get serious about recording and want to trade a higher quality sound because this site will allow something like a 100MB file upload without paying for a membership. And believe me, if the "recording bug" bites you like it did me and a lot of the other members on chordie, you will definitely want the highest quality you can get,,,,for free of course...

Hi Selso,

The "bassier vocals" could be something as simple as having your mouth to close to the mic.. You might try a trial run and move away from the mic a bit and see if that makes a difference. I'm just assuming that your using a dynamic mic. We use to record with dynamic microphones and it was always a challenge to find a position to get the best sound with these type mics.

As far as mixing, be careful when adding effects i.e. eq, compression, chorus, noise filters, etc... to you music. It's real easy to get carried away while mixing and you end up overdoing it by adding to many effects.  I guess what I'm trying to say is to try and get the best sound possible before the song gets into the recorder. This will require less effects to your song. For instance noise filters, these are great for removing unwanted sounds (hiss, background noise, etc...). These work by removing a certain frequency but it does not make a distinction between "wanted" from "unwanted noise", it just removes a range of frequency. So as it removes the unwanted noise it also removes the "wanted" noise. I hope this makes sense smile . Just be aware of this when adding effects and you should be able to produce some good sounds.

Hi selso,

Sounds like from russ and kap that you got mediafire going,,,congrats. I'd like to have a listen but the song does not seem to be on the link you provided above.

Hi selso,

All you need to do is upload your mp3. file to your mediafire account. Then when your friends want to hear your song, they will go to your mediafire address, download it, and listen. Perhaps you could be a little more specific than "its not working." To me it's not really that hard, in fact I thought it was extremely easy to upload/download files. Mediafire has some of the fastest upload and download speeds that I've used online. It takes me just a few seconds to download a 5 or 6 MB song, but of course my connection maybe faster than yours. Anyway a little more information about your problem would be helpful in trying to fix it. There are several people on here(chordie) that uses mediafire so we should be able to get you uploading and downloading in no time.

It just occurred to me that you may be looking for an imbeded music player on mediafire. They(mediafire) do not have a player,,,whoever wants to hear your song must go to your mediafire address and download it and then use their own software ( i.e. microsoft mediaplayer, winamp, adobe mediaplayer, etc...) to listen to the song.

Hope this helps

Not real sure if that is phantom or not. Maybe Riddler can jump in hear and explain it a little better than I can. His interface has phantom power, so we can just plug the condenser mic directly into the interface and by pass the phantom box that came with the mic.

(19 replies, posted in Recording)

yeah something like that Russell, these mics have to have power. Some interfaces, recorders, mixing boards have "phantom power" some don't. If whatever piece of equipment does not have phantom power, and you want to use a condenser mic you will need to find one of these boxes to power your mic. The one that came with my mic is just a box that plugs inline between the mic and the recorder, mixing board, PA, etc...And as far as I know the only purpose is to provide power to the mic. Perhaps someone with more experience would be able to explain better, I've only been using a cond. mic for about 6 mth so it's kinda new to me also.

Hey Guys, I thought I'd chime in and see if I could help. I may be wrong on this but most condenser mics that I've seen do require "phantom power". I know the one riddler and I use has to have phantom power for it to work. It's worth checking into because these condenser mics are really good. But please check it out first to make sure I'm right on the phantom power issue before you drop any dead presidents on a phantom power box.

Hi Steve and welcome to the forum. I remember well the very issue your faced with. I'll give you some advice ,,DON'T STOP USING A PIC,,,, sorry didn't mean to yell... If your just messing around and want to play something to be playing it, It's ok to not use a pic however you should continue to use a pic as often as possible. It will be no time until those smooth silky sounds will be rolling out of your ax. Hope this helps and good luck. If you've any questions just ask on this forum, Folks here on Chordie are always willing to help.

Hi Steve, just listened to your version of Oh Holy Night. Great choice for a talent show. You play this song well and the recording sounded real nice. Everything was clean and crisp,,,good job.

Russell,

Something like this may give an incentive to chordians to join in on recording forum. I know there has been lengthy discussion in the songwriters section lately about words with no music, perhaps this would be the perfect opp. for those folks to put the work to song.

Anyway I think this is a great idea and you can count on me for whatever you need me to do.

Thanks again for all the info, jerome.oneil and Royce you've truly enlightened me with all your knowledge. I knew that I'd find the answer here on chordie. This is a strange concept for me to grasp and It hurts my head to think about it.... I can't imagine the time the symphony gals/guys put into their performances to get the sound they desire. It's no wonder that all us musicians are a little bit on the nutty side...

Thanks for the info but I'm still confused.

She has a song book with the music and in the back of the book it has chord structures(hand positions) for the clarinet. Lets say she is suppose to play a "G" note according to the clef. When she plays the "G" it actually comes out as a "G#". According to the back of the book she is playing a "G" but it's not a "G"......(Golly G I've typed G more times than I ever have..)....Jerome.oneil are you saying that this is suppose to be this way? This idea is totally bizarre to me....Thank goodness my bass only has four strings, you don't have to blow into it, and G means G...

Hi Chordians, I wasn't sure where to post this so I just put it in the chat corner. This will take a little explaining so please bare with me on a lengthy thread. I need some help with my fifth grade daughter who is learning to play the clarinet and we've run into an issue with the instrument. Surely there are some trained wind instrumentalists among all the chordians on the planet smile

My little girl plays the clarinet and she was asking me for some help on a song she is learning for her school band. So I grab my axe and play the notes that she is learning so she can hear how the song is suppose to sound. After this we start to play the song together and I notice that one of use is out of tune with the other. I thought it was the guitar that was out of tune but come to find out the clarinet was a half step sharper than the guitar. We also tested it against my sons flute and got the same result. I'm a complete idiot when it comes to wind instruments but surely a G note is a G note regardless of the instrument. Is it possible that something is wrong with the clarinet or does a clarinet play a half step higher than everyone else???? I just had a thought,,,last week we had to buy new reeds for the instrument, could this have an affect on the tuning??? Can you tune a wind instrument???? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi everyone,

Great song and the mix sounded real good Roger, good job to all.

Thanks again to Old Doll for showing and sharing "Christmas Crackers" with this dumb ole county boy who had never heard of these wonderful gifts. I still can't believe I'm the only one that's never heard of them...:).

I am surprised at a couple of the albums on this list (according to the 50% Shakespeare source). The biggest surprise is that AC/DC ranked only 5th sad . I would have thought it to be 2nd or even 1st. Everyone, or so it seemed, had this album. Also, Sgt. Pepper didn't make the top 5 in U.S. and Led Zep didn't make it in U.K.,,,,WOW. When Back in Black was released, it was about the time when the transition from records to cassettes was happening. Do you think this could have any affect on sales? This may be a question for a different thread,,,if so I apologize.

Great Post smile

Hi walklikeamelon, ARC is one of the software packages that is available on the site you provided at the top of this thread under "products" at the bottom of the page. ARC stands for Acoustic Room Correction,,,I think. It would be great for recording and it looked real nice but like I stated, it is a bit to expensive for me $699.00 for the full version.

Hi everyone, Roger, you did a fantastic job on this tune. It's amazing the things you can do over the internet,,,,thank goodness Al Gore invented the internet... (for those that don't know, this is a huge joke in the states). Anyway thanks for including me in your song and hopefully more songs will come along and we can do it again.

Hi fellow Chordians, I woke this morning and check my email and to my surprise there was two new songs in my inbox that I had played bass on. One of them was a rough recording we (riddler and I) did last night. An old Hank Jr. song called "Arms of Cocaine" and the other song will be named later. WOW it was like going to Krispy Kreme Doughnuts and getting a chocolate filled doughnut with powdered sugar and topped with those little sprinkles things.

Have a good day!!!!!
