Well, I'm back (Just) from my daughters house, I hope everyone had a good Christmas and a good Old Years Night, bringing in the New Year.
I won't be making any New Years Resaloutions, I can never keep them, but I will try and be,
a better person in 2009. Oh, as for the church gig on Christmas Eve it went quite well, I'm still
alive, but the Guitar and the Amp and Mike I used sounded great in the church, I think it's one of those places that have good acoustics.
I posted a quistion in the Electric Guitar section got a copple of replies, I wanted to know if my Guitar had been set up as it came in as a large shipment. I suppose I'll go tomorrow and ask the guy if it was set up, I don't have much know how when it comes to Electric Guitars, plus
I have not had much of a chanch to have a good go at it yet, I am going to start tonight,
with the earphones in, just in case the neboughers have all got sore heads still.
Well, glad to be back and hope everyone on Chordie has a great Year.

Luck and Health to al!!!

Ok, I just called home to see that the house was ok, and I thought I should ask this
Question while I'm here.
I got a New Guitar, A Tanglewood Strat Design for Christmas, bought for me by my daughters
Now it was a starter pack, I was wondering if the guitar will have been set up fully, or whould  I have to gat it set up and has anyone any idea of the Cost In the UK.

Luck and Health to all!!!

To all at Chordie,
Well the time is almost here, this will be my last post for a few days. I am
leaving now for my daughter's home, myself and my youngist daughter have done this for
the last seventeen years. We go down to their house on Christmas Eve, and when the
grandkids have gone to bed we lay out the presents for tomorrow morning and then we
stay till they get up on Christmas Morning. It is more for the younger ones now, then we
come home and make the Christmas dinner. Then we go back down and stay till after the
New Year.

I will have to come back up for the Midnight Church Service, as I have been hijacked into
playing and singing Silent Night and What Child Is This. I went round the other night and the
Electro-Acoustic through my 100watt amp sounded fine, I hope I do on the night?

So to all at Chordie, May I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Peaceful
New Year, and to whatever God you pray to may he watch over you and keep you
all safe and well. The same goes for the none Belevers as well.

From Headcase.

Luck and Health to all!!!

Thanks to every one who answered, I will look at the YouTube Vids, and try the different
methods everybody suggested, and Practice, Practice, ect ect ect.

Hi, to all at Chordie,
Here's my problem, as I've said in a past thread, I just can't get the,
hang of using a pick. When I use one it sounds like a bag of cats being strangled, and as if
someone had attached me to a loud speaker system, the Decibels rise Exponentially.
Now when I use the Acoustic, or the Electric-Acoustic, I was happy enough with my thumb.
However, I found out (Quite by accident: I swear?) that my two daughters have bought me an
Electric-Guitar for Christmas, It's a Tanglewood, based on the Strat Design. So I went to my local music shop and tried one, it sounds horrible using just the thumb. So has anyone any
advice on how I can learn to use a pick.  Is it just a matter of practice, or is there a Knack
to it that I am missing. I have tried different types of grip but I just can't get it.

On a happier note, [I Hope] i have been asked to play and sing Silent Night, on the Acoustic
at our Church Christmas Eve Service; the Minister called one night I was giving an impromptu
show at home. This will be the first time I have played in front of anyone other than my
famaily. At first I refused, but my Grandchildren baddgered me till I said yes. I thought well    they won't kill me, [At least I hope they won't, I have visions of being thrown to the lLions,]
and at worst I won't be asked back next year. On, one hand I am looking forward to it on
the other hand I think I will be addicted to nerve tonic by the time it's over.
Any help will be thankfuly received about the pick I mean..
For those chordiens going away for Christmas have a good holiday and be safe.

Sorry about the long post?

Luck and Health to all!!!

Hi Ken, first let's get one thing out of the way.  I am a Rangers Supportor from Belfast,
however, I've been singing The Fields of Atnenry for years.
OK, that sorted, I have listened to your songs on Y Tube, and they sound fine to me, I;m an old Folk fan from way back; like [BC], but your songs as I said sounded fine, and I could see,
that you put everything you had into them, as for the knockers, most could hardly play a,
paper and comb, egnore them.
As for The Fields of Atnenry, I watched your version, at first you could'nt get the key with your voice, but you did not let that stop you and carried on and finished the song, on TV that took guts, something your kockers don't have.
As I said pay then no heed, I'm sure you know the difference between, a well ment critisism,
and some ignoramus who can't read, let alone have the nerve to go public.
I say keep it up.  From a Rangers Fan.

Thanks Russel, I'm just glad I wasn't getting into a bad habit, I think I'll give some of the

books a miss and just ask here on Chordie!  As for the chord progression, I was refearing,

to the key of [G] not the C chord, but I see what you mean, I ramble too much, a bad habit!

Is it just me or what?  Now I know I said before that I was Old Time Country, but there are many songs other than country that I alsp like, even Classic Music.
But what is with Dylan's  Knocking on Heavens Door?  It seems to be in everybodys play list,
now don't get me wrong I like a lot od Dylan''s songs, especialy the covers done by,
Joan Baez.  But I can't seem to like Knocking on Heavens Door?

Thanks Jerome, for the quick responce, however, there was another part to the question, it
was probiley the way I wrote the questiond out, not your fault, (I'm Crawling now).
Here it is; when I play a song with a C Major chord in it I tend to play C/G, which is a C chord
with the G base note on the third fret of the sixth string.  Is this wrong?  I can play a normal,
C chord when I want to, but the C/G chord alowes me to play all six strings and sounds OK.
Now I have read books (Mostly MelBay Books) which show this [C/G] as being another way to play a C Major chord,
the same book shows the 1 4 5 for the Key of G as G C D, nothing about a seventh chord,
but back to the C/G chord the same books show the normal C chord and show it as playing all six strings, others show the D chord being played from the fifth string, and others the easy
F Chord as first and second strings barred at the first fret, the third string at the second fret,
the forth string at the third fret, play four strings, others five strings, yet they show the full  F barre, chord played from the fifth string, when it should surely be the sixth string as the barre,
is on the the F note on the sixth string, but I ramble on the main question is the C/G chord?
Thanks, for listening to me ramble on or is it reading me rambling on; there I go again.

Ok, here's the problim I have, (If it is a problim) when I play a song using chords I tend,
to play the C Major chord as C/G, now if I'm fingerpicking, I can easely play the standard,
C chord.  So do I have a problim?
Also, I play mostly in the Key of G as it suits my voice, (everyone laughts here) and most of,
the songs are 1 4 5, Now the fifth chord is a D7, but sometimes I will play a D Major it sometimes sounds better, at least to me.  I have seen songs using the G Key and the 1 4 5 and yet the fifth chord is played D Major, what is the right way to both these qustions?
I hope this is the right area, I have posted this on.

Luck and Health to all!!!

I have to agree with Alan on this, when I am not wearing my hearing aid I do not hear half of what is going on.  Plus as I said I think that my hearing aid helps me to enjoy my music better,
than if I did not wear it.
As for Russell, it is entirley his right to wear or not to wear his hearing aid, alought I think he is missing out, unless his hearing loss is very slite.
I was a member of the British Army for sixteen years, I always wore ear plugs on the range,
Hiwever, I fought in the Fauklands, and served in Northern Ireland and off course you can't wear ear plugs on duty. I didn't start to lose my hearing till long after I had left the Army.
All I will say on the matter is if you need a hearing aid then wear it's nothing to be ashamed about.

Hi, to all at Chordie.  Ok, anyone who knows me will know that I am 63years old, apart, from

breathing problims, bone problimes, ulsers, I have one other problim which I never considered,

before as serrious.  However, when I was on the JamPlay Site with my Grandson, all the

instructors talked about listening while playing, well I'm hard of hearing, I wear an ear peice,

now I don't think it interferes with my hearing the music with the ear peice in, but my question ,

is this:    Am I really hearing the Music that I should if I'm wearing an ear peice?

I'd like to hear anyones thoughts on this.

Old Doll,  what can I say the guitar playing was not great, the singing needs some improvement. But that Kid had Moxie as our American Friends would say, give him another few years and who knows where this kid can go.  Beatles' fans eat your heart out.  (He He He)
No, really a good slice of fun at this cold time of year.  Thanks for the Laughts!
As for the nooding dogs, I'm now 63, so my poor old mutt has shaken his last shake along time ago, but I still miss him?

Luck and Health to all!!!

Just a thought on what I posted in my earlier post.

Let's suppose that no one had thought of Tab, or a way to show Chords, or a way to represent, the Circle Of Fifths in a forn that could be reprinted in books.  So we are left with ,
Just the Teacher and Learner, and the only way to learn was Music.  As I said in the last post I
would love it if everyone could learn by Music, but there are some who can't, some who don't want to, not in todays fast world.  If you could only buy books to play Guitar by Music,  and
not the ones that say No Need To Learn Music,  where would that leave the numbers of Guitars sold every week, and how many Guitar players whould there be today.
( I may be on shakey ground here but I'd say perhaps 50% less than there is now.)
To those who have answered my thread I'm glad to see They feel like I do, it's not how you learn, but the fact that you learned. Even if the only ones to hear you are your friends and family.  Sometimes the Jorney is as important as the Destation.
It might sound crazy, but I feel like the members of Chordie are like family, ok, long lost
members of my family, but you get the point.  We are one large family, and if the rest of the world only talked togather, the way we do, even if sometimes we don't all agree, we don't go to War!!

Hi, to all at  Chordie,
As anyone  who  has  read  my  posts  will  know I  had  intended to  take  out  a  Years,
Membership  with JamPlay. However,  I fell in  America and broke my  wrist.  Now,  while
we were in America My Grandson turned Sixteen.   Since  then  he  has decided to take up      the Guitar,  Electric of course.  However he has been using one of my Acoustics'  just till  Santa, arivies.
Now if anyone remembers I got a code and recived a seven day free trail of JamPlay.
So after my trail period was up, I said in a post I thought that the site was good and worth the money,  which I do beleive.  So last week my grandson deciced to try the trail as well, since the basics are the same for Acoustic and Electric alike, I went down to try and help him use the sites on JamPlay that would be best for him in seven days.
I came across a lesson set I either missed or had been  put on after my turn.
It  was  by Matt Brown one of the sites instructors, the course was Learning to read Music.
Now, I have no problem with that,  but one of the first things Matt said was there would be no Tab on this lesson set.  He said that reading Tab made Guitar players  a  Laughing Stock in the Music World.  Now, this gave me the impression  that the time I have spent reading Tab was a waste of time.  Some  of  the  Worlds Top  Rock Musicians  can't or don't  read Music.
OK, Matt learned to play at home and at University, and has a Music Degree,  we  all wern't
that lucky.  Now,  I know the limatations  of Tab,  and I would love everyone to learn Music.
But everyone can't or does not want to.
Sorry  about the long post, I would like to hear the views of other members of Chordie.
Now,  I am in no way puting down JamPlay  I will probably  take out a  years  membership
anyway,  nor  does it decrease my respect  for Chordie  and its members.

So, my Question is are we all wasting our time reading Tab,  and do we consider ourselves
Laughing Stocks?

Luck and Health to all!!!

I fully agree with  upyerkilt,  when I first joined Chordie, there  was a topic on why the music
industery had so many Jews.  It started of friendly enough, but then it started going down a very slippy road.  I thought it had gotten out of control and I felt terrible and I an not a Jew.
I posted my thoughts and the topic was withdrawn.

The Point I am trying to make is who cares, who is a Jew or a Cathloic, or a Prodistant, I joined Chordie to learn about music, not Politial or Riglious disicions.

I come from Belfast, we've had 30 years of fighting, my daughters grew up knowing nothing else, let sleeping dogs lie, live and let live.  The strongest wepon in the World is Love.

Hi, wlbaye, thanks man, as you say if SouthPaw is doing it then I guess it must be OK,

  Luck and Health toall!!!

Ok, fellow Chordiens, here's the problim, when I started to learn the Guitar I suffered from

sore fingers, sometimes almost bleeding, so when I took a rest I download songs from other

sites, I could remember My Music Theroy from my years with the band.  I could change the

key to suite, my voice, (Everybody Laughts here.) I could remember the words from the

songs and the tunes, but when i came to play them, apart from a few, I found I coulden't,

remember 99.5% without the sheet music up in front of me.  I'd like to know if anyone else,

has this problim, I have well over three hundred tunes typed out, (OK, so I don't have a life)

but what I want to know is there some way round the problim.

Hi, to everybody, has anyone heard from Alan Sheeran, he  went last weekend to stay in a
caravan in the Glens of Antrim, and I've not heard from him since, he's usualy in the Chat Corner, once or twice, or three times a week. I told him if he drank too much  Black Bush,
he was liable to end up at the bottom of the Glen, it could be anyone of them there are nine.
Hope he's OK, maybe he's a touch of the flu it's going like mad hear, I just like to think while I'm playing it's keeping him awake. Hope to hear from you soon Alan, are you going to the welcome back parade for the boy coming back from Iraq this Sunday.

Just as an aside, I have a topic I'd Like all you Chordiens advice on, it's too late now so I'll
post it tomorrow?

Hi, thanks to Zurf for your message, as for you Alan, that might well have been me in Vionville,
on the Kings Road. I can't say I envy you spending time in a caravan on the Antrim Coast,
You may have to thaw out your BushMills,  Black Bush I hope, but either way with enough Bush inside you the Glens will look lovely, enjoy yourself and don't fall down into any of the Glens, I don't have a black tie, only kiding have a good time.

Well, my arm is coming on better than they thought, I still need a lot of Physo.  However, I
went ahead and bought my new guitar, I'm in love with an inanamet object, weird.
But it is playing very nicely thank you, As I said in a previous post always get to know the guitar tec, mine set my guitar to suit me down to the ground.  also I said I had a 100W
amp and profesional mike, but I bought a small 10Wamp more tham enough for my bedroom were I play, I haven't had it past 5 yet, but the thing is that this Amp made by Tanglewood,
is made espeacley for Electro-Acustic Guitars which takes the tinnine sound out of the sound as most amps are mad for Electric Guitars, althought you can off course play an Electro-Acustic,
through them, also I hope to take out a years membership with JamPlay as I got my problim sorted out, (Read my post at the JamPlay Forum), I hope to keep you all informed of my progress.

Hi to all at Chordie, I hope everyone is keeping well.  If you read my last post, I told you about my problems with JamPlay loading.  As I said at the time i thought one of my grand children,
had got on to my computer and mucked it up, well I found the culpret, my youngest grandson,
However he 9 years old and Austisic, and he decided to finish the job and ripped out my inter-net contaction so I was of the air for a few days five I think.  However he did me a favour, I re-installed the internet, and now the JamPlay site is playing great as is Y-Tube which was also not loading, so alls  well that ends well.  I hope to take out my years membership of JamPlay by the weekend at the latest. In one of the posts Jsteven2020, asked if he could download of JamPlay, If he ment printed lessons, well the answer is yes, if he ment the actual program, then No, you do not download JamPlay it is on the net 24/7 .

Well Luck and Health to all!!!

Well, my free lessons at JamPlay finish to night, now, as for problems is seems it is my computer, not that it is too slow or not powerful enough, one of my Grand-kids got on it with out my knowing and have done something which means I'm going to have to go through the Server,
and the maker Dell, and see if I can sort it out.
I downloaded the Adobe Flash and the the FireFox and it still did not help, however that is my problem to sort out.
As for Jamplay I thought the lessons where very good and you can pause and go back as often as you like until you have mastered the lesson you where working on.
I think there is more stuff on than when I first heard of JamPlay, and they keep adding stuff on all the time, and yes you can download quite a bit from each lesson, in fact if you download everything you'll be running out of ink and paper very quickly.
There is enough on JamPlay to suit every type of Guitar Player. Those who are really advanced
may find it too simple for them, but for learners I think it is great, and it is good value for your money.

Good luck and Health to all!!!
