Stupid stuff is what I normally do!

John Hartford, simply because I think the Maestro would have a knee slapping, toe tapping good time!

Thanks for putting it out there Russell. Such a great voice, liked the thumb and one finger picking on the first song but the second song hit home for me. Sure would like to hear more from him.

I like the story your song tells. Try alternative fingering for the chords you don't like, it might give a slightly different "voice" to those chords, which might give you the sound you looking for. Please post a recording, I would  enjoy hearing the story as you tell it.

Well done Deadeye!  I spent a lot of time in the saddle, not because a failed relationships, I just liked the road better. I had a theory that if a man was honest and true with folks and had 365 people to call friends, he would always have a warm/dry place to sleep. The theory proved correct and I've got great memories from living the life I chose, although it didn't make for a huge bank account, I still believe it was worth the ride, if you never slept in the woods with your bike chained to a tree, you might have missed something.

Looks like its going to be a tough decision for you. I've never played a bass and can only go by the looks and that being said, I like the lines of the ESP, I can only imagine the smooth and silky sound it would make.

That's a real beauty, JJJ ... gotta be a poem / song written around that one. With your permission, I'll see what I can come up with.

Great stories, everyone!

It is a Nick Lowe song. Not about guitars. That is where I got it from. The song ---- Ones too many and a hundred aint enough

I don't know who said it but I heard that phrase 29 years ago at an AA meeting.

Dude, that was cool,  great jazz chords, which blend with your voice for a really smooth sound,  I could picture you on a smokey stage wearing dark sunglasses. It would be much appreciated if you could post the words and chords.

.

Reminds me of my drinking days.  Thankfully those days are far behind me.  As for guitars, ain't ever had to many.

Good one DE,  the one thing I  miss the most is the sound of silence.

I've been drooling over a Duesenburg,  the Mike Campbell series.  I can only hope they play as good as they look.

You could put a soundhole pickup on your acoustic guitar, there are a lot of good pickups on the market that won't hurt your wallet or your acoustic.

Research, research and more research is usually the best way to proceed with a major expenditure,  I start out that way, but in the end I always go with my "gut" decision. Newer aint always the best,  it sounds like the Berhinger is worth fixing, looks aren't everything (but then again I was always the last guy to leave the bar).

Hi Curt, I like to noodle around with alternate tunings and it has never caused strings to break. If I am playing a lot I will change strings more often. Of course the best solution is to buy more guitars and tune them all different. You might have to put labels on them to avoid confusion.

I'm what is known as technolgicaly challenged, all I can handle  is something with an on/off switch and one control knob. Anything more than that just scrambles the two brain cells I have left and one of them is asleep most of the time.  I have to keep things simple and inexpensive.

I have to ask because I know nothing about effect pedals, I'm not even sure I know enough to ask the right questions.  I want to try a reverb pedal to add something different for some songs, I have narrowed it down to two but but need to know which is better.  I don't gig and play for my own amusment and occasionally for friends. I play an accoustic guitar with a soundhole pickup, plugged into a small 15watt amp. The two effects pedals I have in mind are: #1 Behringer DR600 digital reverb, and: #2 Donner digital reverb.

Welcome Oldbikes, the are no dumb questions, we've all been there. I hope you will find the journey fun and memorable.

I used to do some off road driving,  my favorite and best vehicle was a blue jeep cherokee. That old jeep did a lot of rock climbing in search of old forgotten cemetaries.

I thank you all for the information, I have a lot to learn. I need to figure out a way to convince my wife that there are some things out there that I just can't live without.

Thanks for the info TF. I've been thinking about trying an effects pedal but don't know the first thing about them. How do you hook them up? do they need a power source? I need some education on these gadgets.

It's simple, some people just don't have anything better to do, so they just annoy everyone else and that is their sole purpose in life. I know what I'd like to do with them but won't say it in polite society. Sure seems like there are a lot of these dimwits. May the fleas of a thousand camels take up residence in their undergarments!
