Ya I have been trying and trying playing nothing really just getting all 6 stings to ring out. I can generally get it now, so I am happy for now that this doesn't limit me. Thank You for all the help and tips, been working wonders for me.

I am sure I will have a lot more questions in the future, I know where I will come first!  smile

Thats cool. Like I said the guitar is older than me by a far shot, I wasn't even born in the same decade that guitar was made. To me it has a rather high action, but i will deal with it for now. I can get barre chords to ring out but it takes me a minute or 2 to get it set up, and by the time I get it ringing right, my finger feels as if it is about to fall off my hand. O.o

I know right now barre chords and as odd as it is, A are going to be my downfalls for a little while. For the A chord I can;t seem to cram my sausage fingers in there with enough pressure on all 3 to get it ringing out right. I am hoping that with the addition of my electric my luck will change a little, and of course allot of practice >:)

With that are barre chords easier to play on an electric? Harder? Or the same?

Little back round I am in the market for an electric, but in the mean time my G-pa gave he him old acoustic guitar to start piddling with, starting to learn chords and what not.

So in short my goal is to play electric.

well say you "practice/play" for say an hour or so a day here and there. how long B4 it comes naturally? Not that i want to pick it up in no time or I am done playing/trying to play. Just so i know if I am on track.

Is there some universal trick to this? I mean after trying to stress my first finger to get all the notes to sound, my finger is DEAD! Any advice other than PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE??!

EDIT: trying to type with a guitar in your lap = TYPOS!

As far as the style of music I will probably end up playing, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and the one song I would LOVE to learn is Cannon in D, cannon rock. So that sort of tune I am looking for.

The amp I have never givin much thought to a pocket amp. For starters though I wont be able to get both amps and i would like to be able to unplugged the head phones and let my family hear how  good or bad I am.  O.o

Around where we live there are 2 places within about 45-50 miles that sell guitars and I have been to both of them and they don't have anything that tickles my fancy. So when I decide to actually get my guitar I am going to have to drive about 2-2.5 hours from my house to go look at a guitar shop that even carries the OLP line.

It's not that we can't afford something better, it's that my wife won't LET me get something better. Disadvantage of marriage.  O.o

Thank you for all the advice, I just wanted to make sure without the Floyd bridge and tone control I would still be happy. I have heard so many good things about the OLP MM1 that you can mod it for a few hundred bucks and make an amazing instrument even better!

Moving forward with the OLP MM1..... I HOPE!

I am going to be in the market for my first electric guitar in the next month. After many many months of bargaining with my wife. We don't have a large sum of money to spend on what she calls  my "next toy." However i have messed around with a few acoustic guitars, nothing special though. I have read about as much as i can about different guitar company's for our price range.

I have mostly decided to get a Line 6 Spider III 15w Amp.
For $100 i get a few bells and whistles but suffer on the fact that it is only a 15w amp, I have 3 smaller kids so the volume can;t get out of control anyway so that fact does not bother me at all.

As for the guitar itself this is where my question comes into play.
I have been heavily thinking about an OLP MM1.
I have read the reviews and comments by many people and only found a few that disliked this guitar. Other than the bridge.

This should be an open and closed case, however like I said having begged my wife, this is about the TOP of the price range I am allowed so I won't be able to get a Floyd Rose bridge until a few months later. EVERY review I have read said the factory bridge on this is JUNK! If I decide to go this route I will have to make due with this bridge for a little while and I am afraid that it will discourage me in learning to play if the guitar can't hold a tune for very long, and if I don't play it much I wont be able to con my wife out of a new bridge.   O.o

Another concern on mine is the fact that the MM1 does not have a tone control, and being an absolute beginner to guitars, I have not decided the tones and styles of what I want to play yet. Does not having a tone adjustment have a big hindrance on versatility?

With all of that in mind I have seen Epiphones that not only have a semi-solid factory bridge, but a tone control on both pickups, and 2 volume controls. All this for the same amount of money. But there is alot of mixed reviews on this company's quality of instruments.

So any advice would be very very welcomed.

I would hate to see the shipping cost as well.

I have been going over these forums for about 2-3 weeks now just reading what others have to say mostly. I can't believe that i haven;t seen one reference to John Butler. For those of you that dont know who he is, search on youtube "John Butler trio ocean" it is an instrumental of this guy playing his 11 string and i would say the best guitar solo i have ever heard. I listen to this on an average of 4-5 times a day.

I hope it's a joke as well, however in his other vid he talks about his first guitar when he was a kid and the guy that owned the guitar shop DIED! and it worked out for the best!! I mean what kinda doober ever says something like that?

If you look around him he has a bunch of manuals laying around his bed. Maybe he just got his guitar and like my 5 year old daughter, he "KNOWS EVERYTHING!"

So someone who doesn't really know much about guitars should make a video to teach you about guitars?

"The little thingys on the fretboard are just for decoration, they look cool though!"

"This, well I have never used this and you wont either, so I am going to just take it off." in reference to the Tremolo arm.

"I have seen guitars with 31 frets, was pretty crazy. But all you really need are 4, so if you have a 4 fret guitar you are GOOD."

I have only been playing guitar for less than a month, not well even. However about about 5 minutes searching on the i-net, and cracking open a beginner book on guitars, I have found MANY flaws in his so called lesson.
