I'm hoping he posts something for me to hear; I want to give him an honest chance.

My SG is about as far from what I started out on as it gets...it's a serious instrument, I don't care what it says on the headstock. Solid mahogany, beautifully finished, high-end hardware, rosewood fretboard, and real EMG 81/85 pickups. Much much nicer than my old Yamaha tongue . Stellar fit and finish seems to be a common theme between my two higher-end Epi's.

Hahahahahahaha. No. Doubtful. Generally, mastery of music sufficient to impress me comes along with a basic mastery of the English language, and being older than 13. Go ahead, try and prove me wrong. I'd love it if you did.

I dont see anything wrong at all with the flow of these lyrics!

I also learned about Laurence Hacking. So Thank You for that also.

Very good lyrics.

Old Doll.

Didn't see this before. Thanks for the kind words Doll.

Lawrence is my idol. Any chance to talk about him big_smile .

When I get off tomorrow, that's probably what I'll do. Who knows, I might even like it enough to record it.

Thanks Jerome!

Daddy, I'm really just looking for advice on making the lyrics flow better. From my second-favorite guitar forum, Guitarnoise (I find it much more active than Chordie), I got a bit of rewriting help and have edited the first post to reflect it.

This is something I threw together on a whim. Gives a bit of a nod to the Dakar rally and Lawrence Hacking, the first Canadian rider to finish. Title is borrowed from the book he wrote about the event, I'll change it later probably.

Long Way To Dakar

Out in the desert, all alone
Only tie is a satellite phone
Your heart is pounding, taste the fear
But there's no place you'd rather be than here

Long way to Dakar, longer back
Spend fifteen days on the attack
Sixty miles an hour, fightin' cars
Up on the pegs or you're over the bars

That's the Dakar, that's how it goes
No sleeping but still on your toes
Paris, Dakar, miles in between
And it's worth it when you hear the crowd scream

Your mind's giving out, no backing
But you remember Mr. Hacking
Made it to Dakar, made it through
So suck it up, princess, and pay your dues

It's hard, I know it ain't easy
There's times your stomach gets queasy
No shiny bike, no support crew
But when it matters, you just pull it through

But it's a long way to Dakar and a longer way back
Spend fifteen days always on the attack
Sixty miles an hour, fighting with cars
Up on the pegs or you're over the bars

And that's the Dakar, that's how it goes
Haven't been sleeping but you're still on your toes
Paris, Dakar, and every inch in between
And it all feels worth it when you hear the crowd scream

Dad's new BMW should be here sometime next month. My CRF will follow shortly after.

Maybe not for you, but for me it's the music. But, I should have known better to post an opinion on a public forum and not expect some squeaky-voiced preteen to get all hot and bothered over it.

I am not an Oasis fan. That does not mean they suck. That means I think they suck. I should have been clearer with opinion, my apologies for any rabid fans I may have annoyed. wink

Lately, it's been all about travel for me as inspiration.

B.B King, and a local guy I know from around here. I'll find some of his recordings if I can. Guy's amazing.

I don't envy Noel Gallagher. He's an egotistical jerk with an irritating accent.

FWIW, I played an American Standard a few months ago-I'm hooked. Been combing ads since for a used one.

Taste is subjective, I suppose, true.

I like anything that has some variation and musical theme behind it and is not openly ridiculous. Oasis is bland and single dimensional and Tenacious D is openly stupid by any account. Funny for about three minutes, then irritating.

Almost anything Oasis did. Yuck.

The number in the model refers to the displacement of the engine.  The F650 is a 650cc single, and always has been.  The F800 is new, and it's an inline twin.  They're both great bikes, but they aren't even remotely the same engine.   It's still not up to KLR standards, particularly since you can get a brand new KLR for half what you'll pay for the Beemer.

And parts and service?  Beemer will bend you over.  And this is a dual sport.  It's gonna get dropped in the mud, and the snow, and the dirt, so those things come up.

Observe.

Note the fancy new KLR behind me, not tipped over.

All the GS's are heavy.  Heck, all the BMW bikes are heavy.  I rode a 1200GS and I'll be honest, the boxer motor was pretty uninspiring. It felt like I was driving a Honda CIVIC.  The K1200R, though.  Now that was entertaining.

Always was. Not now. The 650 single now resides in the G650X, which is a standard street legal dirt bike. The 800 twin is in the 650 with a different camshaft and a milder state of tune, as well as chain drive. Also lighter and a lower standover. We did a fair bit of research into everything from KTM's to Suzuki's to Yamaha's and everything else. This is a new change for 08.

The F650 is a single thumper, and I believe the engines are made by Rotax.  It's not what they rode in that movie.  What the guys rode in LWR was R1150GS Adventures.

If you can't afford a KLR, you surely can't afford the GS.

The KLR is the best all around dual sport made.    It's cheaper to purchase and own, lighter,  gets better mileage, and it's bullet proof.  It is tall, though, so if you're inseam challenged, the F650 may be a better option.

I can't afford the KLR, Dad can. He's set on the BMW, though, wanted one since the Adventure series were new. The new 650's are the same engines as the new 800's, just mildly detuned, so they're a twin. We looked at the R1200, which is the replacement for the 1150, but it's just too heavy.

Southpaw, that's a great story. I really hope I get the chance to do a trip with my grandfather before he sells his Volusia.

Oasis does suck. Dull, bland and the lead singer is awful. Tenacious D is just a bad joke.

I play an SG and I live  in Gander. The airport code for Gander is YQX, add a C for Canada and you have CYQX.

KLR is not to be-I can't afford it yet and Dad's got his heart set on a BMW F650GS twin. That's Ewan's doing too, of course. wink .
