Come on Eileen - Dexy's Midnight Runners
Our House - Madness

Mine is probably pretty obvious. I'm a huge U2 fan but beyond that Edge really gave back to my community following hurricane Katrina though his Music Rising foundation.

James,
I'm glad that you let this thread continue. Personally, I feel that the "hey I'm a teenager are there any other teenager's on this site, if so instant message or email me" posts are probably more dangerous than this one. Watch one of those to catch an online predator news shows if you don't know what I mean. For good or bad those of us who are a little bit older (I'm 40) have lived our lives and had experiences that have made us who we are today. I did not for one second think that mhebert or chordie was condoning the use of drugs. I'll even spare you my views on lives and health ruined from legal alcohol and tobacco compared to the "Devil's Weed"and simply answer the question:
almost anything by the Doors.

Re: barre chords (16 replies, posted in Acoustic)
Hey Skydad,
Practice is the best way to build up the hand strength but that spring loaded hand exercise thing that Kahuna metioned was a big help for me. It's called a Gripmaster and I keep one at work so that I can work on my hand strength even when I can't pick up my guitar. Although, I think my coworkers may have thought I had some nervous condition that needed to be released through constant hand exercise until I explaiined what it was used for. Anyway, my challange now is not the actual formation of the bar chord but the transition from bar to open chords. Yes, I know the answer...practice, practice, practice.

Re: What reason did you choose an electric guitar over an acoustic guitar. (7 replies, posted in Electric)
My reasons were pretty much summed up by Detman. To me there is no sound like the sound of an amplified electric guitar. I grew up listening to Rock and I always wanted to emulate the sounds I heard from the guitar. I would like to get an acoustic one day but only after an upgrade on the electric side of things.

Re: muted? (3 replies, posted in Electric)
Hi deaken,
If your talking about palm muting, it's when you rest the palm of your picking hand lightly across the strings while you strum. The notes or chords dont ring out as loud and clear as a regular strum and sustain is cut down as well.

Re: Frankenstein (6 replies, posted in Electric)
Hi Guys,
Thanks for the input. I'm a novice guitar player so I'm not expecting to pick up any guitar and sound like Eddie Van Halen, I've only been playing for 5 months. I do practice everyday but at my age (40), I'm not looking to be a rock star, I play for the enjoyment of it after years of thinking I could never do it because it would be too hard. My interest in a mass produced cheaper version of his guitar is would be more of an homage to someone who gave me a lot of joy growing up than an expectation of sounding like him. To answer your other question Bootleger my budget would not be very considerable at this point in time.
Thanks,
EF

Hey All,
You guys have probably seen that Eddie Van Halen has signed on with Fender to make a limited number of custom replicas of his famous "Frankenstein" guitar. $25,000.00 U.S.! Have any of you heard of any plans to make a mass produced more price friendly version? My name says Edgefan but Eddie was my first true guitar hero.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for all of the responses. I've got to try to not be so static and play something only one way but be able to change techniques depending on the situation. The more I play the more I relax about what's "right" and "wrong".
Later.

Hi deaken316,
Maybe try "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana if you like alternative. You've probably heard it dozens if not hundreds of times so you know what it should sound like and it is pretty easy to learn. "Santa Monica" by Everclear falls in the same catagory. Just my opinion.

Try the Bm in the chord dictionary under resources on this site. That's the one that I started with and just learned. Don't worry if it doesn't sound great right away, build up that hand strength by practicing.

Re: please! (5 replies, posted in Acoustic)
Hi Overtakers,
Bar or barre chords are partially formed by fretting multiple strings with the index finger. They can be difficult to play but like everything else involving the guitar, with practice you can master the technique.

Re: do u guys know any good (9 replies, posted in Acoustic)
One thing that I like to do is take a song that I already know and like and try playing it using different strumming patterns. I used the chords that were posted on Chordie for "Country Roads" and with some palm muting and nice distortion for the chorus came up with a modern sounding piece that sounds nothing like the original. Have fun and don't be afraid to try different things.

Topic: Fingering for G chord (15 replies, posted in Electric)
I've been trying different fingering for the g-chord. I alternate between using fingers 1,2,3 and using 2,3,4. Frankly, since I haven't been playing that long I think I'm starting to confuse myself and now when I have to go for a g I hesitate. I find that the transition between c and g is easier using 2,3,4 but it's hard getting that darn pinky to cooperate sometimes. Which fingering seems to work best for you and why?

I have to agree with jcellini. Different year but same result, Kiss 1979. Which I believe was the last tour for the 4 original members, until the million reunion and farewell tours of the 90's that is.

Great topic. Once I got started it was hard to keep it to ten. I couldn't rank them once I got down to ten but here they are in no particular order:
Voodoo Child - Jimi Hendrix
Eruption - Van Halen
Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana
Burning For You - Blue Oyster Cult
Crazy Train - Ozzy Osbourne
Dancing Days - Led Zeppelin
Santa Monica - Everclear
All Because of You - U2
Yellow Ledbetter - Pearl Jam
Tumbling Dice - Rolling Stones
