An old Irishman, Paddy, is about to go to his eternal reward.  He looks at his grieving friend, Mike, and says, "I have one last request, Mike."

"Anything, Paddy,"  Mike says.  "What is it?"

"In me kitchen pantry you'll find a 100-year old bottle of whiskey.  When they put me in the ground will you pour it over me grave?"

"I will, Paddy,"  Mike says.  "But would you mind if I passed it through me kidneys first."

Mr. Zurf, I have the answer to your problem, it's a no-brainer really...Quit exercising...only exercise hand and fingers.

Followed or mixed with the best anti-viral medication known to man.....Whiskey.  I prescribe anything over 80 proof.   wink

Single Malt recommended, as it is least likely to contribute to alcohol virus resistant syndrome.   Plus it tastes a heckuva lot better then NyQuil.  YUCK

Hi zurf,I have heard that sometimes antibiotics can cause muscle pain for awile after you have taken them, you may want to look at the labels of any medicines you have been taking. If you did not exercise for ten days that will be abig factor also.

Hopefully you did not take antibiotics for a viral infection because (Repeat after me):
ANTIBIOTICS KILL BACTERIA. THEY HAVE NO EFFECT ON VIRUSES

Of course the industry (composed of doctors, pharmacists and drug makers) SELLS antibiotics.

Slight correction needed here.  Only a few pharmacists are involved with drug makers.   My wife is a pharmacist and she's not involved to that depth.  Plus any pharmacist worth their salt will warn about the dangers of of over prescribing antibiotics.   Considering all the problems coming out with resistant bacteria.  Big problem in the medical field.

This has been a public awareness message from your friendly local neighborhood nurse and fellow guitarist...........we now return to your normal musical enjoyment!  wink

I was afraid to post that one, Wlbaye.  Rodney Carrington is, to most, the ultimate hardcore funny. He and Pat Dailey are in a league all their own. Rodney's piano man is one sick individual.
I appreciate the fact that your sense of humor is as decadent and jaded as is mine.

I can never contemplate drinking songs without thinking about the Irish who some say, invented booze. I have also heard that whisky was invented to prevent the Irish nation from taking over the world.
Would like to dedicate this to Old Doll, an honored Chordian, who is recovering from surgery and is sorely missed by many of us.
Get back to us soon, dear lady.

Indeed, I was wondering what happened to her.   Come back soon, Old Doll, your appreciative fans are sending good thoughts your way!!!

Whitewater55, were you referring to "Bottle of Wine Fruit of the Vine"?

Yes, indeedy, I was. It was a big hit in the late 60's or early 70's. Can't recall the band that recorded it, though.
I play it regularly on my pub nights.
"I Like Beer" is simply awesome, especially the sing-a-long chorus.

It was The Fireballs in the late 60's.  The tune was written by Tom Paxton.  I still have the 45 RPM record.  smile

But for good old fashioned pub/bar songs with a humorous twist.  John Roberts and Tony Barrand's album;  "Live at Holsteins!...Eat Bertha's Mussels."  I have the album and it's a treasure!!  smile

No puke.

Had lunch with my neighbor and he suggested that it could be dehydration.  Possible I suppose.  Water's cheap therapy anyway.

Yeah, you have to watch the fluid intake when your sick even more then food.  As a nurse this is one of the cardinal rules I preach to sick clients.  Eat what you can keep down, but, fluids are so important.  Ginger ale, light juices as well as water.

Hang in there!!

I've been exercising regularly lately.  Letting a virus run its course, it's been ten days since I exercised.  Yesterday I was aching as if I had overdone it.  Muscle aches all up in those areas where I have been concentrating.  Virus is over and I was planning to get back to exercising today, but refrained because of the pain.  Now I am used to pain after exercising, but not muscle pain after NOT exercising.

Is this a normal physiological thing, or is this yet another old guy thing I'm going to have to get used to?  I'm not a big fan of the old guy stuff that's been creeping in on me, but it better to suffer through than to not grow any older.

I feel your pain and hear what your saying.  I'm still feeling the effects of a major snow clearing and roof raking that I did last week.  I also agree, better a few aches and pains to suffer or work through then not feeling anything at all.  At 55, I'm at a point in life that I couldn't imagine back when I was 25.   But, I'll be danged if I'm going to grow old mentally, the body will be ok as long as we take care of ourselves.  But, the mind needs a bit more attention nowadays.  Hence, learning and playing guitar or doing other things that are fun and give our brains a work out and nimble and do involve the body a little.

We're not getting old, we're getting better!!

It certainly looks meteoric, but, that would need real scientists to make that determination.  Still, that is heck of a find.  I wouldn't mind having that in my outdoor rock collection/display.

You could have some sort of naturally occurring Iron ore.  Basalt is heavier then it looks and also contains iron.   Where did you find it???  That could give clues as to what it could be.

I'm a geology hobbyist/rock hound with my true fascination being Volcanoes.

hi all,
im trying to learn guitar and have managed to learn a decent few chords.

my problem is that i am blessed with the rhythm of a donkey and cannot sustain any sort of strumming pattern or timing,

are there any tips or tricks that i can use, or does practice really just make perfect?

thanks!

p.s sorry ive just discovered this forum and questions keep popping into my head! so much to learn...

I feel your pain!  And yes, practice does make perfect.  Being a klutzoid myself, all I can add is that you have come to the right place to get good advice.
