Our band is finally getting our first paying gig at a little bar/cafe down the street. It's only a 30 minute set but we are psyched! not very often do 14 year olds get paid for doing something they love...check out our song on www.myspace.com/mindshaft5

PS: we're playing on one of the bars "all ages accepted night" meaning from 6-9 its more family friendly wink

Go to your local CD store (Borders or Barnes & Noble work too) and find an acoustic guitar instrumental album, it will most likely feature people you've never heard of, but they are fun to listen to, and are great inspiration.

hey phil, im 14, and yes, i am a major fan of zeppelin.  The whole band was a bunch of musical geniuses in my opinion. I only discovered them two years ago, and I really wish I would have discovered them sooner. I own every album, not to mention a limited edition recording of Stairway preformed acoustic in compilation with Pink Floyd. lol sorry if i sound like im bragging. I'm not just into classic rock, I'm a sucker for garage/indie bands like Jet, The Fratellis, The Arctic Monkeys, and Rooney. I'm also into some harder rock like Avenged Sevenfold, and Foo Fighters. And lastly, I'm into the classic rock everyone cant help but love i.e. Zeppelin, Skynyrd, ACDC, Floyd etc.

As for your comment on R&B,  I think it's a phrase spread around way to generously. Same with Indie rock... it used to stand for bands that didnt have record labels, and its a developed into a style of music.

Cheers

Hmm... interesting. I always think of musicians kind of like teachers, teachers aren't supposed to have lives outside the classroom (in their student's minds) and musicians aren't supposed to have lives off of the stage.  But, musicians are normal people (in a multimillionare/famous sort of way) and they have normal people traits like a religion, a political view and a favorite color.

cool topic

tailgating is when a bunch of people gather in a feild or parking lot to watch/listen to a sporting event, usually football (american) or baseball. It's called tailgating because people will base their BBQ out of the backs of their trucks by opening the tailgate. It's a fun way for people who dont have the money, or will to buy tickets, to enjoy the game.

feel free to add on if i forgot anything smile

haha sulking teens... life is to short to sulk, every sixty seconds you spend sad or angry is a minute of happiness you'll never get back smile guitar is greatly accepted at tailgates. Then again guitar is accepted almost anywhere outdoors where alcohol is being/has been served wink Anways sorry to get a little off topic.

ALBUMS:
1) zeppelin 1
2)physical graffiti
3) zeppelin 2

your right phil, John Paul was very underrated in that band, then again its hard not to be underrated when your standing in the shadow of one of the best guitarists in history along with one of the best blues singers of his time. As far as songs...

1) going to california (beautiful acoustic guitar)
2) what is and what should never be
3) stairway... a lot of hype around this song i cant get over it though

As far as Pages solos go I love Whole lotta love, Moby Dick, and Babe I'm gonna leave you (great example of zeps blues side)

Christian music is a sort of pop music that often uses "uplifting" chord prgressions such as C F G and A E D A. The singing is usually soft and breathy and the words are somewhat cheesy in my opinion. Im a Christian and the music just doesn't hit me as...well... very good. It reminds me of something I would have listened to on cassette tape as a little kid.

Indie music is pretty self explanatory Indie is short for independent. It's usually a sort of alternative rock that expresses a strong opinion on something. but as ken said, more and more bands have adapted the indie/garage style so it's name has lost it's original meaning. Im still a fan of indie though. check out The Fratellis, or The Arctic Monkeys.

Im 14, I've been playing for a year and a half, and been listening to older rock for about 2 1/2 years. Its a nice break from the overplayed pop i always hear on the radio. Mostly Skynyrd, ACDC, Guns n Roses, Zeppelin, and some Floyd. I do like a lot of modern rock bands too, The Killers, Foo Fighters, Jet, My Chemical Romance, and indie bands like Rooney, The Fratellis, and The Arctic Monkeys.

Also got the odd blues tune on my playlist, usually BB, Buddy Guy, or Muddy Waters

I own an Alvarez acoustic, an Epi acous/elec and a squier tele.  took lessons for a while, but right now Im taking a break and putting all the stuff I've learned together and writing some of my own music.
