Well..... I need it, if you would be so kind, sir! Also wouldn't be bad to hear your drummer do the obvious one.

Doesn't matter. I'm just a fan of the band, so rock out on anything "Christmasy" you want to.

I also would like to know when you three start playing for an audience, because I definitely think you guys need to nail down that playlist, practice it and get going before one of you kicks the bucket! (That was a joke, okay?)

If, as you say the wife took "the high road", then this poor guy must have been a real SOB (not a sob). If she took "the low road", then it's best he's rid of her, right?

Open to interpretation, isn't it?  smile

See? I really do read and listen to what you write and sing! smile

Thanks for letting me speak my mind, my friend, and please know this takes absolutely nothing away from your wonderful musical talent and/or your abilities to take songs such Jim's and making hits out of them! I feel so fortunate to know you both (almost) personally and listen to your work!

It's just that this one...well (and I'd say this to Bob Dylan too!).... makes me wanna shoot myself. smile smile smile  Let's blame it on the dementia, okay? wink

Phill! Thanks so much for not thinking badly of me! smile It would kill my heart if you (or anyone here) did.

I'm thinking "Run, Run Rudolph" or "Roger Got Run Over By A Reindeer"...... smile

Although the guitar came from Amy and Jim and Kids, I know to appreciate the fact that it came from all of you as well, because our Amy is a part of all of us. So if my Enkelkind doesn't mind, thank you all so much for caring about the both of us in our time of need (and we sure do need you!), and thank you for wishing me the best with this beautiful present!!!!

We love you!

Phill, Dear Friend O'mine........

You know I love you like a brother, don't you? And I would never intentionally say or do anything to hurt you?

But I have to tell you: This one makes me wanna shoot myself.

I'm sorry if I'm being too blunt, but it's also the reason I hate "Blue Christmas".

I mean you even have a place in there where the singer's supposed to sob???

I hope you're not upset with me.

Being that one can make ukes and (who knows-guitars too?) from things such as cigar boxes.... well, I guess it's the pickups and the neck, then, isn't it?

smile

I always thought of them as a "low end price" guitar manufacturer, but from what y'all write, it appears I am wrong.

AWESOME writing, Pete and I agree with everything you wrote. Sometimes a song/poem comes to me in minutes and engages my brain and as soon as possible, I get a sheet of paper and a pen and write down what just came to me. Sometimes it goes to the very end, and sometimes it is just a phrase or two (and I have many of them stored in a file on my computer).

Spot on, dear friend! Spot on!

PS: I hear this as a spoken tune with a guitar softly strumming in the background. Just a suggestion.

Z, Holy Carp! I never realized (or if you ever told me - and you may have) you are such an accomplished musician, my friend!!!!! This is amazing information, and I thank you so much for sharing it with me/us. It sure helps me to get to know you better.

About the groove. I don't have it with me on drums, but may I link you to a blues tune, where one of the last bands I played with "found it" and couldn't stop playing/improvising on it? It was so exciting I got chills all over my body, and the crowd didn't want us to stop.

Again, wow!

On the subject of spiritual pet visitations...I kid you not, but we do from time to time hear the jingle of tags from Grouchy Old Lady, but the funniest is that sometimes when my wife and I are laying in bed we smell her farts.  There's a distinctive bouquet that she imparted to them that's instantly recognizable, and by golly we do smell them every once in a while.  It'll wake us up and we get a laugh about it. I swear it isn't me trying to sneak one by my Funny Little Honey, or vice versa.

Zurf, Dondra and I have become convinced that many animals, including our pets are "self-aware" and have been for quite a long time. As Bert died, in the very last second of his life, as I was holding him in my arms, both of us on his favorite large feather pillow, he locked eyes with me, and in that moment I was sure we'd see each other again, somehow, somewhere.

Of course, if there's a hell, I sure wouldn't want him there seeing me standing in cow manure up to my neck, drinking coffee and the devil walking in, saying, "Okay, coffee break's over! Everybody back on your heads." smile

Sorry. Couldn't help it. "Opie" came out for a few seconds, there.... smile

Bill
PS: Z,  (can I call you that for short, sometimes?) She must have been a wonderful pet! Cat or dog? In my experience, Bert has never farted - either in bed or otherwise. He was what you'd call "uppity" as most cats are. He was a Maine Coon. I'm sorry, and I don't mean to sound racist (I'm far from it), but I have always dreaded meeting a person of color from New England and them asking what kind of cat I have. ----- Sorry. Opie again.

Ever since hearing Paul McCartney's fingers dance around on that Höfner of his, I have always been fascinated by this instrument. It provides so much "depth" in the song and if you're lucky enough to have a bassist in your band who can also sing, you have half the band already! In my own opinion, of course! smile

So I have some questions of those of you who play this instrument:

1. Will you stay with 4 strings? Does it bother you to go to as many as EIGHT (a la Greg Lake)? Do you NEED more than four strings?

2. Did you begin with bass or did you come from the six-string?

3. Is it more/less/ or the same amount of difficulty singing with playing bass as opposed to a rhythm guitarist playing and singing his part?

4. Giving advice to a novice about playing bass guitar, how important is the instrument you would recommend and why? A good "starter" bass is _______ and here's why:_____________

5. If you are an instructor, do you teach the importance of drums playing tightly with the bass and how successful (given today's "Hurry up, teach me!!" attitude) have you been?

6. Where are you on Chordie? You play a stringed instrument, and you are a VERY integral part of the overall sound of the band, so please share with us your expertise.

Thanks,

Bill

EDITED: To fix "Palmer" to Lake. Y'all are supposed to catch these mistakes and rib me about them! smile For my friends across the waves and up above America and to the side, "rib" means "joke"..... smile

Aw, mannnn! I got so excited about my own guitar gifted me by Amy, Jim, Katie and Steph, that I only just caught this! Those two are gonna be great musicians just like their Mom and Dad!  Steph already has that natural "feel" and seems very comfortable holding her Uke and singing.

"Teach Your Children Well", indeed!  I think y'all are off to a very fine start! smile

Beautiful, Jim!!! This has the "feel" of the Christmas songs I grew up with as a "Baby Boomer".  Yes, I'll say it:  It evokes nostalgia and a longing for the early years when Rudolph was a red-nosed reindeer, Frosty promised us he'd be back next year, and Santa was up on the housetop.

In other words, your song gives us solace Jim and even though I shouldn't ask this, I hope you and Phill can collaborate on this one especially. I don't want to "push" anyone into anything, but we need to hear something closer to the heart these days and this one is it.

Thank you for writing it, my friend!

........ without "choking up" and having to stop......

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KChi4xWmcuU

I don't know what it is about that song..... maybe it's because it was recorded near the end of his life, maybe because of the way he loved June, how it must have hurt him physically to record those last tunes and how you can "hear" the pain in voice.... I just know that's one I can't sing.

On another website I wrote about this and one respondent called me an "arrogant SOB" for short-changing my audience. Basically, according to this person I was being arrogant by letting my audience see my emotions.

I know it's happened with my friend Zurf on "Christmas In The Trenches" because it reminds him of his Grandfather, but how about the rest of you? Have you ever not been able to sing a particular song because it made you cry?

About that first YouTube name: A band I used to drum for used the first part of that name when our Lead Guitarist would announce that since some folks complained we played a particular song "too fast",  "from now on we'll play it HALF-FAST." smile
