Zurf,
That is a good story and one which will yield many fond memories to come. I practically grew up in a camper as my family always had one and we used it as a sort of second home. I didn't appreciate it (fully) then but now hardly a day goes by that I don't have a chuckle or smirk over some fond memory of camping. One of the fondest - and the one I kick myself over - is sitting around the camp fire while a few adults played guitars and sang! One neighbor even constructed a bass from a washtub, broomstick, and a piece of cord. He became pretty adept at playing it. There were a few old-timers that actually lived in the N. Georgia Mountains (where we camped) that could play guitar and banjo. On rare occasions they would join us. Very friendly folks but the whole scene could have been written by James Dickey. Back then I had no interest in guitars but I regret this now. Ten minutes of instruction then would yield a year's worth of instruction now.

Enjoy your camper and camping.

I watch in fascination and then I get depressed.

Yea, I nearly pulled the trigger on a Martin with a Stratabond neck. I actually like the look of the laminate construction and the feel was fine. What got me was the price of the guitar and the "normal" features I was giving up for a relatively high price. I ended up with an Epi Masterbilt: all solid construction, bone this and that, cool Grover-esque tuning machines, and rosewood wood where it should be. Made in Chine? Yes. Am I satisfied? Yes. Would I recommend? Yes. and my wallet is at least $200 heavier.

I do still like the OM-3s but I have been looking at the Guild GAD small bodies: 20s and 30s and it would be very easy for me to make the same decision you did. Sure I'd like a "real" F/M20 but I would be happy with a GAD F/M20.

And I cannot warm to the Taylor tone.

Wow, I'm more ignorant than I thought. Maybe I'll just play what sounds good and forget about the theory...for now.

I know little about music theory but here goes. For Strumming, does the first chord coincide with the "key" of the song. That's what I conclude from watching this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Jd_T_JX … ture=feedf

I don't need a lengthy theory lesson as I'm pretty sure I will not understand it.

I hope its just a typographical error. Otherwise it is shameful trickery.

I ALWAYS look at the shipping charges before bidding. But "caveat emptor" (Let the buyer beware.) I suppose.

In my opinion the majority of eBay sellers are honest. For example I purchased a guitar a few weeks ago (buy it now) at a ridiculously low price. Before I sent the money I contacted the seller to confirm this price was valid AND the guitar was what I expected: New. The seller confirmed the price was an error but honored the price! What he didn't know is that I would have paid the "normal" price for this instrument but since he offered the lower price I kept that idea in my back pocket. I own a beautiful guitar and will consider this same business for future purchases. That is all he asked of me.

Win-win.

p.s. As you might suspect I make a habit of scouring eBay (and Craigslist) for the next "deal". This detracts from my playing time but it is so enjoyable I cannot resist. It's all part of my GAS problem.

+1 on the Guild 30R, and while your at it take  look at the
Epiphone Masterbilt EF-500R (http://www.epiphone.com/default.asp?Pro … ctionID=15),
very similar to the Guild (http://www.guildguitars.com/index.php/s … w/GAD-301/).

In fact, I suspect they're built in the same plant but I can't prove it. I recently bought the Epiphone Dread version (over the Guild) because the Epi has a Satin back, sides, and neck which I prefer. (Hence part of my interest in the Larrivee: Satin finish.) I think both the Guild and the Epi have maple binding like the Larrivee as well.

All are nice, and if it will ease your pain in choosing, buy one of each smile

Or take a look at the Seagull "Folk" model here: http://www.seagullguitars.com/productma … folkhg.htm

Or the Art & Lutherie "Folk" model here: http://www.artandlutherieguitars.com/folk.htm

Both are made in Canada. The Seagull is glossy; the A+L satin. The A+L is available with a Spruce top, cedar top, or a wild cherry (all-laminate) configuration. I own two of the wild cherry versions a dread and a 0-sized (called an Ami). The latter is my travel guitar. An sonically NEITHER sound like a laminate guitar.

Or stand firm on the Larrivee. To answer your question about finish, it is a lovely SATIN finish with maple binding. For these and other reasons this guitar will remain in my wish list for some time. But you will not be disappointed with any of these choices.
Let us know what you decide, with photos of course!

I hope this helped?

Buzzwagon,
I'm jealous. What a great guitar. I've been eyeing the Guild 20s and 30s for some time. Enjoy and congratulations.

Dino48,
I am a big believer in "natural" finishes. I like the look and feel of wood. I realize gloss has its advantages but it just doesn't appeal to me. Recently I purchased an Epi Masterbilt (over the Guild GAD offering) due to the Epi's satin back and sides. I am convinced they are virtually the same guitar, built in the same factory but the Guilds are (overly) glossy which I think makes them sound "tight".

The Cort begs to be held and played. I love it. Boy, all this talk about guitars and I chose to travel w/o one for once. Well I'll be home (Atlanta) on Friday. Currently residing in Tbilisi, Georgia (the country of Georgia - a wonderful place by the way).

Leave for Europe today. Return on Friday. Too short a trip to endure all the hassles of bringing a guitar along. So I will go without:(

My new Cort L450C-NS arrived a few minutes ago! Wow! Photographs to follow later today.
So far, I am VERY impressed.
Solid mahogany top and back, 00-size body - very well executed.
And I paid slightly over 2 C notes.
I would love to have a Martin, I suppose, but this instrument is amazing.

12-stings: twice the fun, twice the sound, and the only way I know to play two guitars at once. Happy NGD. Enjoy!

Try ELP's "Lucky Man": only four chords (G,D,Am,Em) but with twelve strings that's 48 "units" of sound. How's that for "new math"?

Judging by the number of views. there are idle hands a-plenty. Substitute a fingerboard (fretboard) for the keyboard, restore your sanity and make the world a better place.

Someone here at Chordie (I think) said, and I paraphrase:
Jazz is hundreds (or thousands) of chords for three listeners.
Blues are three chords for hundreds (or thousands) of listeners.

But these guys do all right with only four chords. Funny but it demonstrates what can be accomplished with only a hand full of chords and a little imagination.

I suppose I just need to work on the imagination part.

I was poking around iTunes last night looking for inspiration - unprocessed acoustic songs. I stumbled on an acoustic (bluesy) acoustic of "The Stroke" by Billy Squier. Incredible. For those of you old enough to remember the commercial "pop" version from the 1980's this is the version that SHOULD have been released. But then it would not have been very popular. Check it out on iTunes. Fantastic.

I've found them for <$20. You might be better off asking for someone to "gift" you one. I would but I only have one and that's 50% of what I need.

I didn't know D'Addarrio made S&S strings. All I can find around here are the Martin's. Otherwise D'Addarrio is all I use.

+1 on Guitarpix's comments about a DRY guitar. Unless this guitar has been re-fretted this is the only conclusion I can draw.

I'd like to say I bought this with the understanding I'd sell it back to him within 60 days for the same price but the ad was removed within hours.

I read the ad to my wife and even SHE said he should sell his wife!
