The reason I try to play guitar is because a piano is too heavy for me to hold under my arm.

Re: Soundholes Unsound? (7 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
Deadstring, truss rods may be designed to be adjusted at the headstock end. See any solidbody or archtop guitar for examples.
Cytania, it's my understanding that the major component of the sound quality in an acoustic guitar is determined by the tonewood of the guitar's top. I know in the case of the Taylors that I auditioned before I bought mine that the cheaper models with laminate tops don't hold any sort of a candle to the more expensive models with solid tops. I think that the effect you are hearing has to do with the fact that the Ovations with smaller holes at the top of the upper bout (Adamas model?) are probably much more expensive, solid topped guitars than the more traditional ones with central soundholes. You might check Ovation's website for specs.
I told you I didn't know! Heck, I didn't even spell truss right. Sorry.
Oh well, at least now we are getting replies to the question. Good day to all!

I don't know, but the first thing that comes to mind is, how would you adjust a thrust rod with no hole?

Headcase I doubt if it is anything personal nor intentional.
I personally belong to a camping forum, Chordie, a forum from my home town and a forum about dulcimers, plus I receive a lot of e-mails. By the time I get caught up on all of them I find that if I have nothing to add or discuss I simply don't comment. When I do not comment I don't do it to be rude, I just have nothing to say.
Have a great weekend! AL

JAckal,
I hope this works! If it does please give it a listen all the way through at least once.
O GOD THOU ART THE FATHER.This is a very haunting song to me . I've included some of the history of the song to show that it should be public domain. It is on an album I have called Irish Hymns.
Enjoy and let me know what you think. AL

Columba is for ever associated with Iona where in 563 he established a Celtic monastery that came to be a light in the Dark Ages. Of princely Scots-Irish background and notable for earlier establishing Christian centres in Ireland, he is thought to have left Ireland, with 12 followers, as a result either of political pressure or simply as some kind of penance. Iona became famous as a sanctuary, as a school for scholars, as a centre for the production of illuminated manuscripts, and above all for its missionary outreach – the formidable Columba himself penetrating to the heartland of the Northern Picts in what is Inverness. Many monks of Iona were to travel to England and across to the continent, e.g. St. Gall in Switzerland and Bobbio in Italy, spreading the Gospel. Though his fame is in part due to Adomnan’s biography, there is little doubt that Columba is the most recognisable and notable figure in early Christianity in the land. Two hymns, Christ is the world’s redeemer and O God, Thou art the Father, attributed to him, express the distinctive Christ-centred theology, with its quality of universalism and its resonance with nature, that is characteristic of Celtic monasticism and that still has much appeal today. He died in 597 in the midst of copying Psalm 34.

Thanks Russ!
Wouldn't you think most artist (after they had their hit) would be some what flattered to have a hayseed like me like there song enough to perform it for my family and friends. Most things I would do are in my music collection in one format or another anyway.
Our Church purchased a license to be able to copy music but I am not sure it covers recorded music.

Re: Page display question! (6 replies, posted in About Chordie)
Hi deadstring, I've been having this problem for a couple of weeks. I am in the middle of dealing with emails back and forward to microsoft to see if they can figure out why this is happening all of a sudden. So far no joy. What I can say is that I think it is a problem with flash objects or embedded content. It is very annoying. I have tried playing around with my settings (with microsofts recommended fiddling about) and still no change. One thing worth noting is that this is only a problem using Internet Explorer. I even updated to IE8 and it made no difference. So I downloaded Firefox and there are no problems when browring with that. It is very wierd.
alvee33,
I mentioned this to my son and he said he uses Firefox also. Thought I would give it a try and WHA LA! It works

Russ I don't know what the problem was but I did what you suggested (kind of)! I made a disk with Media Player and it came out fine. Then I got curious and tried making copies using Nero. I made a dozen and they all came out fine. Not sure yet what the problem was at first. Thanks. AL

Re: For Recording Virgins (30 replies, posted in Recording)
I've been working on my first CD for family and friends.I finally got 12 tracks the way I wanted them and saved to the computer. They sound good and very clear when I listen to them. Then I decided to put them on a disk. When this step was completed I played the disk. I hear a pulsating swishing sound in nearly every track. What am I doing wrong and how do I correct it? All replies appreciated! (I used Nero to burn with)

Pretty guitar!! Love the Rosewood and flamed maple back!
Most necks are pieced at that location and I'd guess the glue joint just popped and someone screwed it. Should hold fine...Though it's not the recommended way to fix it. If by chance it ever gives you any trouble you should be able to get it fixed easily by a good repair tech. They can clean, reglue and clamp the joint..replace the screw with a hardwood dowel and a little tinted filler and you'd never know it was ever there. Just my .02! -Pix
That info is real good to know. Thanks again Pix. I realize I sent guitar pics to Guitarpix!

Guitarpix I appreciate your thoughts!
My wife aint a stripper either but she knows.....Never mind!
I have had all the strings off, long enough to clean it, and replace the strings with Martin lights. It came in tune very nicely and is staying in tune as well as the Yamaha does with new strings. It was a little flat (just out of zero on my tuner) the first time I checked it after restringing. Fine after that. I know the value dropped when the screw was installed but I don't really plan on selling it anyway. I love it! I just hope it holds together
First is a shot of the back. No visible damage but I spotted the reflection of my grandson's First Act in the picture
Then the top of the neck as you are playing it.
Then the back of the neck and the screw.
And finally the bottom of the neck as being played. The damage is just about as hard to see in person as it is in this picture.

Topic: Page display question! (6 replies, posted in About Chordie)
When I come to Chordie home page I see a rectangle about about 3/4 of an inch high and maybe 3 inches long just to the top and right of the word forum. Inside this rectangle is a small rectangle about 1/4 wide and 3/8 high at the upper left corner of the first rectangle. Inside this little rectangle are 3 objects. A red square,a blue triangle and maybe a blue circle. How do I open this larger rectangle? I've right clicked, left clicked and nothing lets me open it to see what it is. I assume (witch ain't good) that is some type of add such as the larger one to the right side of the page which I can see fine.
Anyone have an idea what I need to do to view those things. I have the same problem with some e-mails.It doesn't help to disable my pop up blocker either.
I'll thank everyone in advance because I am sure some good ideas are forth coming. Thanks, AL

Thanks for the reminder KajiMa! Yes I have seen both.
I have went through the string changing process and all parts stayed in place and it came in tune very nicely. I had too fine tune a time or two but no more than I do with the Yamaha. I feel like it will out last me.
