I excude our classic master like MOZART, BEETHOVEN, BACH. (Bach had a great influence on some bands, like PROCOL HARUM)

"THE MOST INFLUENTIAL ARTISTS, WHO ARE THEY?"

You can ask WHO MADE WHO. I realize that almost every band is the inspiration of another band.
But my list is (THE NUMBERS OR RANKING ARE IRRELEVANT):
1) ROBERT JOHNSON here we can say without Robert Johnson no Chuck Berry, no Elvis, no STONES ........How many artists thit this ROBERT JOHNSON INFLUENCED? THOUSANDS OF BANDS.
2) BOB DYLAN = without DYLAN a lot of artists wouldn't be famous artists, see all the DYLAN songs covered by others.
3) THE BEATLES = without the Beatles no Kinks, Who, Oasis and hundreds more.
See the songs they wrote.
4) BILL HALEY and THE COMETS = there it started
5) SEX PISTOLS. Of course you had the RAMONES, THE STOOGES, THE NEW YORK DOLLS
6) PINK FLOYD = the pioneers of psychedelic music and their evolution.
7) BOB MARLEY
8) NIRVANA
9) BLACK SABBATH = one of the most influential heavy metal bands of all time. They influenced COUNTLESS BANDS
10) JAMES BROWN is not for nothing called "THE GODFATHER OF SOUL"

Thanks, this was written in 5 minutes with a list of rappers on my screen.
Next song will be probably similar using existing artists, now about pop & rock.
- or a kind of poem
- or as song.

ONE QUESTION = Most rap songs are written using ONE CHORD is this correct?

Torture your brains, think and write it.
I love the phrase I wrote =
TODAY IS TOMORROW'S YESTERDAY. (it's mine) and I love to see similar phrases written by you, since almost everybody writes a great line when posting or adding a topic.
Another
THERE IS A LOT OF REMORSE BEFORE YOUR BAG IS FULL.

YOU WILL NEVER FIND AN UGLY CHILD WHEN BORN.
YOU WILL NEVER MARRY A GOOD PARTNER
YOU WILL NEVER SEE A DEAD BAD PERSON

I love that song too, but it's  about attitude because at THE END he was a man with a lot of PRETENTIOUSNESS. This is a better EXPRESSION.

James, that makes 2 of the administrators, I hope they follow. Also your interests and dreams.
THERE IS ONLY ONE POSSIBLE MINUS ASPECT: I have 22 guitars and putting them on the list it is as if I like to say: LOOK GUYS, LOOK TO MY LIST AND ALL THOSE GUITARS I HAVE.
I have them, I am not ashamed to have them, I worked day and night for this passion.
My other passion is traveling and making friends.

If we have the opportunity to have a thread I DEMAND
1) NO serpent-ish reactions.
2) Honesty
3) PLEASE NO JEALOUSY

My brother in law's name is JO, derivation from JOSEPH.
In USA it would be JOE.
But put a RAP RHYTHM ON, play just the E-chord (or C, D...) and there you go.
HONEST? It's not that simple.

TOP 20 ALBUMS of ALL TIME. I found a fantastic link to ROLLING STONE TOP 500
http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/ … f_all_time
Underneath every song you will find information about the sales records.
As my good friend SOUTHPAW sais, and he USES THE CORRECT WORDS, I do agree, but I make my personal list.
My personal choice is:
1) WHITE ALBUM by the BEATLES but number 2 is a surprise, a genial album with almost every song played with the same chord sequence = BOB DYLAN'S:
2) PAT GARRET & BILLY THE KID by BOB DYLAN (contains the great song Knockin' on Heavens door.)
3) HIGHWAY 61 REVISITED by BOB DYLAN
4) ARE YOU EXPERIENCED by JIMI HENDRIX.
5) DARK SIDE OF THE MOON by PINK FLOYD
6) ELVIS PRESLEY'S FIRST ALBUM
7) JOSHUA TREE by U2
8) LED ZEPPELIN IV by Led Zeppelin
9) DEEP PURPLE IN ROCK by Deep Purple
10) THRILLER by Michael Jackson.
All these albums have "TOP CRITICS" "HUGE SALES NUMBERS (except probably Bob Dylan) & THESE ALBUMS ARE MILESTONES.

Hey DOUG
- about the so called "PRE FACTORY GUITARS" like PRS.
- What is the difference since we have now 3 different & similar stories.
1) MINE and the GIBSON "HOLLOW BODY PLANT" in MEMPHIS.
2) TONYDR = About the making of GIBSON CUSTOMS
3) DR.EVIL = the MARTIN tour in NAZARETH
I AM TIRED of thinking about the difference "PRE-FACTORY" and "FACTORY"We all saw (the 3 of us, how a top guitar is made. It needs indeed a lot of work to put all that mother of pearl inlay, not to mention the lacquer procedure.
What was really strange for me was that 50-60% are women, they do the "MOST DELICATE PROCESSES" and at least 60% of the workers wear a mask. I don't call this a FACTORY, each guitar is made with passion and love, and talking about Martin, Gibson, they use the finest wood. PRS pre-factory? can you imagine him making a guitar with 5 others, only using their hands and some tools like a saw to cut MANUAL a guitar top, back and sides? I don't think so.

It's about THE DOORS. The song THE END.

The most SELFISH BOMBASTIC & OVERRATED SONG BY THE MOST SELFISH BOMBASTIC and OVERRATED JIM MORISSON.

In a way I do agree, but I'm afraid I step on a lot of toes here.

HAHA! The answers are coming. I forgot AEROSMITH shame on me.
What about the Doors?

CAMERON WHAT YOU WROTE IS CLOSE TO MY DESCRIPTION. Due to a car crash I can't stand right with a guitar. SO I PLAY ALONE 95% of the time.
I don't get frustrated, I play good enough to be appreciated (by those who listen to what I play, and who see my style. THAT IS WHY I WROTE THAT I HAVE A VERY GOOD FRIEND WHO PLAYS ALWAYS WITH ME = my Korg Pandora PX4D and a PX5D has even more possibilities, more rhytm and bass loops + USB + ABLETON LITE. It even fits in your pocket.
THIS IS A TIP FOR ALL THE LONELY PLAYERS.

Hey Everyone, I found a friend who's willing to help me, he's been playing for a long time and very good at it actually, comes from a musical family. The great thing is he only lives a mile and a half from me, just goes to show you most everything you need in usally right in your own back yard, I think I heard that line in a song once!

              Cam

THIS DOESN'T MEAN THAT I AM PLAYING EVERY DAY. It is sad to play alone but this is my fate, I can't accept the whole history, but my day pass fast and every day I practice 30 - 60 minutes.
DREAMING KEEPS ME AWAKE! (strange expression, but true in my case).

I think this is the best thread to post this, compare the VISITORS on ABOUT CHORDIE with CHORDIE'S CHATCORNER.
If I may speak: I should love such a topic " THE WHO AM I TOPIC".
- name (option)
- country
- age
- music style
- and your INSTRUMENTS, or what brand you play or would love to have.

I wonder how many bands can tell that they are still having the same line-up at least between
25 and 40 years. I don't think there are a lot of bands who can tell they are still "ALL ORIGINAL"
Even THE ROLLING STONES almost 50 years active (better: 45 years) have almost the originally line-up, STARTING from 1975 the year RON WOOD became a member of the STONES if you don't mention the fact that BILL WYMEN left the STONES in 1993

THE BANDS I KNOW ARE:

1) ZZ-TOP = Formed end 1969 in Houston, TEXAS. ISN'T IT FUNNY THAT THE 2 MEMBERS BILLY GIBBONS and DUSTY HILL have very long "Santa Claus" beards, and the drummer, who hasn't is FRANK "BEARD" this is a funny fact for me.
2) U2 = Formed in 1976 by LARRY MULLEN (drums) PAUL HEWSON aka BONO, DAVE EVANS aka THE EDGE on guitar and ADAM CLAYTON on Bass.
3) THE ROLLING STONES = still almost same line -up, not really original but very close to the original.

DO YOU KNOW OTHER BANDS WITH THE ORIGINAL LINE-UP since many, many years? Or maybe 1 member is no longer member? AC/DC? METALLICA?
Please HELP ME

Well, I don't really think this is the CORRECT PLACE TO ASK IT, but the best advice I can give is
1) WHAT IS YOUR BUDGET?
2) WHERE DO YOU LIVE?
3) ALMOST EVERY COUNTRY HAS "MARKET PLACES" to buy and sell, or stores
4) WHEN I WANTED TO BUY A DECENT GUITAR like GIBSON or FENDER, I did some really good Business on EBAY to name a site.
I hope this helps.
In fact all you need is THE BRAND, THE BUDGET and time to look and I'm sure you'll find something

Thanks, I know that people making pick-ups, can be a big brand, but probably some of the "luthiers" still make their own pick-ups.
I don't know much of pick-ups, only that they use special tools to measure the output.
News about changing pick-ups? I have an 1968 original Gibson Les Paul custom. The serialnumber is from 1967. I had already a Gibson Les Paul 1978, so I changed the pick-ups on my 1968.
I replaced the humbuckers by single coils. The problem is that a black "P-90" doesn't fit in the cavity and the technicians of the music store, (who is now the importer of Gibson) used P94 pick-ups. Single coils in a humbucker shape. The purpose was to have the configuration of the first P90 Gibson LP Customs Like 1954, 1955, 1956. In 1957 the sinle coils were replaced by PAF's. It's a great guitar with a great sound. The original pick-ups are strange. There is 1 PAF and the second pick-up is an old DiMarzio. Probably the first owner changed the other PAF by that DiMarzio.
Do you know where I can find another PAF? Some people tell to buy a t-top pick-up is this correct pick-up.
I don't know. About the serialnumber it says made end 1967, but they only came back on the market in 1968. They told me that even with the combination PAF/DiMarzio it's still almost priceless.
WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ABNORMAL PRICES? Is Gruhn driving up prices? or publishers of vintage books? A GIBSON LP STANDARD 1959 can go up to 300.000-400.000$ This can't be normal

Definition of OPERA.
1. a dramatic work in which most or all of the text is sung to orchestral accompaniment
2. the branch of music or drama relating to operas
3. a group that produces or performs operas

WE HAVE MORE: OPERETTE and MUSICAL.

Famous musicals: WEST SIDE STORY, and THE SOUND OF MUSIC.
Also SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER and GREASE.
I DON'T LIKE MUSICALS, it is so absurd like TRAVOLTA singing with OLIVIA NEWTON JOHN: You're the one that I want oohoohoohoo.

BUT WHAT IS a rock opera?
Is "HAIR" a musical or a rock opera?
How many ROCK OPERA'S are there?
1) TOMMY by the Who and in particular PETE TOWNSHEND'S baby. I remember me the commotion when that album came on the market.
2) DEEP PURPLE'S Concerto for Group and Orchestra DOES IT BELONG HERE? I think it does.
I believe the KINKS have one too, but WHERE CAN YOU PLACE THE SO CALLED
"CONCEPT ALBUMS"?  Sergeant Pepper, Pet sounds?
Please help me to make this topic accurate and good.

Well James, I love to read that you know your history.
History is for me VERY important it repeats itself always. Do you love history?

Let's say that I have a guitar with 2 EMG pick-ups, a 85 & 81 (Zakk Wylde 's combination).
Will there be a difference in sound if the bridge pick-up is replaced by the neck pick-up, and vice versa?
Is it possible to change a humbucker by 2 single coils, or are they causing "sound" problems because they are too close?

Yes Jay, it is a CATASTROPHE if you have a house very close to another and or if you live in an apartment.
If you ask me which amp is my best amp, the answer is my FENDER CYBERTWIN, tubes + digital.
The third Sunday of Juin I have an auto scooter attraction in front of my house. They play that "ELECTRONIC BOOM BOOM BOOM sound, so I opened my window, put headphones on and I opened my Cybertwin s' volume on 7 WITH MY WINDOW open. They stood in front of my window 10 minutes later to ask if I could play not that loud, and since that moment, they lowered their volume too. YOU REALLY BLOW EVERYTHING AWAY. I didn't play for months electric until I9 saw that Duesenberg 49er and bought it. I have a LANEY Bass amp (TUBES) in my living room and the 49er + korg pandora PX4D = FANTASTIC sound. My best amp is my acoustic Marshall (also tubes), but I use it most to play electric resulting in a clean and warm sound. I can even make a list of guitars using that amp. The VALVESTATE, well I doubt really if there is such a difference between these amps versus tube amps.

1) Before I start playing I wash my hands.
2) I dry them well.
3) I play
4) I take a dry towel and clean the neck.
IS THIS ENOUGH TO KEEP THE STRINGS MUCH LONGER IN GOOD SHAPE?

(9 replies, posted in Acoustic)

ZURF, I played 10 years with the same strings except when I bought another guitar. Electric I don't see that much difference, but I know that if you play guitar with brandnew strings it is as if you play a BRAND NEW GUITAR.
What strings do you use?
I use ELIXIR STRINGS NOW. They don't sound better, but they last longer.
