Now, Neophyte, going back to our discussion about SongBook.....yes it does link to Dropbox but again, I'm a bit of a dinosaur when it comes to that stuff.  I can usually bumble around and do what I want but it usually takes four coffees and lots of swearing.

Heh - I know what you mean - trying to set up my bluetooth pedal had the same effect ....

On a different matter, I notice that Neophyte is in Perth but is that Perth, Western Australia?

That's the one!! Good to have another Aussie onboard!! smile

I think we went there one time when we visited the Mountain ... I was about 10 and Dad got lost ... in the days when crossing the Nullabor required a 4WD ...

I'm with you on the collection of paper versions......I'm over it!  My friend and I rehearse on Tuesday nights but only play for friends and the occasional 'open mic'.  But having the tablet means no more paper, no more light problems at night, no my breeze problems etc etc.  I still have an old briefcase full of books and sheets but I'll slowly put the ones I want into SongBook and then shred the rest.  By the way, SongBook also has a hand internet search link.  I like Chordie because it allows me to import directly to SongBook with the chord notations in place.  Easy peasy.

Sounds good - can you synchronise with DropBox or iCloud?

I think OnSong has a search facility, but I've tended to download a copy, fix any issues then pop the song into my DropBox account (using an "artist_songtitle.crd" style of naming convention) and synchronise it from there, as I also use "SongSheet Generator" on my Mac (and/or PC) which allows me to make PDF's for the older folk, as they haven't got the app ... (although I'm slowly talking them around to it) ...

I've been using SongBook for a couple of years now and find it does pretty much everything I need.  I must admit I'm a fairly 'low end user' and have not tried to use many of the enhancements and font option that are available.  But for me and a couple of my friends it does the job very well.  I like the feature of being able to tap a chord symbol and see different inversions show up on the screen.  In fact, sometimes when a song I'm looking at mentions a chord I've never heard of I open a new song, type in the chord, then tap it to see just what the fingering is (if you get my meaning).  I also like the metronome option and the scroll is something I use all the time.  It's a bit fiddly to edit songs but once you get the hang of it things go quicker.  I'm aware that SongBook works perfectly on Apple products, pretty well on Android and not very well on the Microsoft platform,  A of mine mate had a Microsoft tablet but couldn't get SongBook to work properly so he bought an iPad and all was good.

I have not heard of OnSong but I'll look it up.  I went with SongBook because a couple of friends use it and told me about it.  So I didn't hunt for something, just took their suggestion.  I'm hope this is enough info for you but if you have other more specific

Interesting - I think I narrowed my search to the two options of "OnSong" and "SongBook", and found that I'd previously downloaded the first when it was a "free release" for some reason - I'd discounted it at the time, but then had a play and opened up a wider world ... mostly because the older folks I jam with kept giving me paper copies of their songs, and I ended up with a very large folder full of songs ...

BTW: welcome aboard!!

In particular, it allows me to import material directly into Song Book which is the app I use on my phone and tablet and it also supports Chordpro which is a really bonus

That's what I do too; except with OnSong ... be interested to hear what you think of SongBook, as it was one of the apps I was looking at buying (and the price seems to have recently come down by almost half!!)

Looks a difficult song to play neo, up and down the fret board in parts.  Well done for having a go at it.

Thanks - it's hard to get the timing right on the the descending part, and sing the words at the same time ... I kinda fumbled through it .... more practice required, but "time poor" at the moment ...

I like the way TF has done it; I'm in a similar position, and playing guitar is in the same place - my average is about 1 to 2 hours per week, on a good week I might get 4 hours in, but that's about as high as the priority can go ...

But on the positive side, I try to organise my ppractice time, so I don't get too distracted; "these" are the songs I'll play (usually 4 or 5), "this" is how many times I'll practice it (usually 2), "this" is what I'll do once I've finished them (free time, songs I haven't tried, play some blues, etc) ...

Thanks for the comments - I kinda like the way this guy interpreted it on the songwriting forum:

Well, I thought a lot about the meaning of this song, and my conclusion is it has very little to do with terrorism, unless you call the music of Britney Spears and her kind terrorism (and I must admit I'm inclined to).

Link to the whole conversation, including other interpretations ...

Anyway, it just was a song on my list I hadn't done ...

Good work, I picked up an old Marshall 4x12 for about the same price ...  added some wheels, but found it was too big for me - sold it a couple of years later for about $300 ...
