I'm sorry. I know this may sound wrong but I just can't get over a sentence Lena typed in her opening post. It struck a mental image and I can't get it outta my mind. And I quote,

"I have some blue tits nesting in my garden".

Dad-gum, am I beginning to be a dirty old man?

I play with a bunch of old time musicans. If you take away their capo they could not play. They mostly play 3 chord songs with maby a minor chord or 7 chord trown in. Just by knowing a few progressions, having a capo available and they are set. Take the chord progression of G...C...D - typical open chords, right? Ok, capo 2nd fret and play G...C...C - chord voicing is A...D...E. Hmm, capo on 3rd fret and play G...C...D - chord voiceing is Bb...Eb...F. Moving up to the 5th fret with the capo and play G...C...D - chord voiceing is C...F...G.

Pick a chord progression - say C...F...G. Capo on 2nd fret and play C...F...G - chord voiceing is D...G...A. Go to the 5th fret and place the capo - play C...F...G - the chord voiceing is F...Bb...C.

Thats the beauty the capo. If you know just a few open chord progressions, understand where the capo needs to be to achieve the key you need there are 1000's of songs that have now become easy.

I have a very good - easy to read and understand - capo conversion chart that I will gladly send to someone in an e-mail if they will help post it to this forum. Just let me know

Washburnj56, welcome to chordie. As with anything the more you do it the better you become. If you are having trouble holding on to your picks I would suggest going to a light guage pick and sticking with that until you get comfortable. Then move up to heavier pigks very gradual until you find ahr pick thickness that feels right for you. The heavier the pick the more volume you can get. For me, and I'm just playing rythem, I find a 6omm pick to works well. As for learning strum patterns I have learned to just listen to the song (CD) and strum across my chest. I find that most songs will work with one of the following strum patterns - D - downstrum. & = upstroke;

D...D...&...D...&...D....&... REPEAT (COUNT 1 - 2 AND 3 AND 4 AND 1)

D...&..D...&...D...&...D....&....REPEAT (COUNT 1 AND 2 AND 3 AND 4 AND 1)

D...D...D...&...D...&...REPEAT (COUNT 1 - 2 - 3 AND 4 AND REPEAT)

Listen to the song and try one of the patterns, above, or modify it until it fits.

For practice I burn a CD with 12 to 18 songs that I am learning, wanna play or can play. I clip a printout of the lyric's (w/ chords) to the CD case and file away. When I'm ready to play (practice) I take the CD with the sheet music - CD goes into the walkman, sheet music goes on my music stand - headphones go over the ears - and I'm ready to play one song after another (all I have to do is turn the pages. This gives me at least an hour's playing time - or more - per CD.

Kap54 - e-mail me the site BUT since I do not know anyone there I'll probally not use their "Shoutbox". What I was referring to here was just to be able to go online and talk (type) with folks who have become friends over the years. I'm on site at least once a day - sometimes more - I read the posts of others, reply when I have something I believe is relevant, make posts of my own asking for help and guidence in making improvements to my playing ability and appriciating the reply's I get in return. If some type of "CHAT" happens, it happens. If not, oh well.

The last thing I would want to do is to take away from the forum BUT I do believe some type of chat room or IM where we could visit with one another and kinda get to know each other better would be good. I agree some ground rules would have to be put in place and strictly adhered too as this is a family forum. As things are now we make posts, receive comments, make more posts and receive more comments. I was just thinking of something that would be a little more interactive amoung us members. Would not need to be an everynight affair - maybe once or twice each week. I've been on other forums with thousands of members (none this big) and things went fine. Anyway, that's my thoughts.

To All

I may not be the first to ask this but I'ma gonna be the next one to ask it again. I know we all come from many different places and we all have our different mannerisms, hopes dreams and desires. If we were not all involved in music (guitars) a lot of us would not have anything in common. I enjoy reading and adding to the discussion here on the forum and plan on continuing for a very long time. What I want to ask is,

Is there some way we can get a "live internet chat room" going where we can talk (type) with each other in real time? I know a lot of us are in different time zones so there may need to be one in each of the different regions where we have members. I'm sure we got some computer "GURU's" who could make this work. I know this site would have to be blessed by the powers to be, Moderators would need to be put in place as this is a family community - BUT - I sure would like to get on the computer around 7:00PM, or so, and have some good friends to exchange info with. What ya'll think? Is this something worth looking into?

Well, as ya'll can guess I have possession of the picks - for the 2nd time. As of this morning I have recieved an e-mail from the next person to have the picks sent to them. I will try my best to get them out in the mail next week, although I received them at my home I will be mailing them 300 miles away from New Orleans, La. as that is where I am now working.

An easy way to learn the "F" chord (E shape barre) is to learn simple songs in the Key of "C". These songs will go "C" - "F" - "G" (1 - 4 - 5) Here's the trick. Make your basic open "C" chord and strum. Now without moving your ring finger (this will be your anchor) move your index, middle and pinky into the "F" chord position and strum. (your index finger will be at the 1st fret). Now, without changine  ANY finger positions slide your fingers until the index finger is at the 3rd fret. This will be a barre "G" chord. To go back from the "G" barre chord to the open "C" position your ring finger will stay in position and never loose contact with the string.

Jets60,

A lot of Patty Loveless' songs, that I have looked up, are shown as the key being a #. ie Timber, I'm Fallin' in Love. The key is C#. I capo 1st fret and play "C", barre "F" and barre "G" for the verses. The chorus goes "barre F", barre "G", barre "F", "B", "E", "barre G" back to "C". Played this way the song sounds exactly like her CD - except when I get to the 2 "off" chords - "B" and "E". Any idea if these 2 chords are correct? Something just don't sound right to me. Any help would be appreciated.

Acoustic guitars work best when played thru a acoustic amp, keyboard amp or a PA system. If everything is set correctly you will have a good sound. As wlbaye said, have someone you know stand center of the room, about 15 to 20 feet from you and signal you when the volume is right.

Hmmmm, I noticed this product has a 1/4" input and a 1/4" output jack. Assuming this "tool" is to be used from the player to the instrument I would assume the "input cable" would come from the TS-1 Talent Simulator to the instrument. The "output cable" would go from TS-1 Talent Simulator to the musican. Anybody got a idea of just where you would make this connection? Anyone got a "mental picture" of this?

Ain't Patty Loveless great. I play several of her songs,

Lovin' all night
Timber I'm falling in love
Chains
She drew a broken heart
Halfway down

Gonna have to try "Here I am" (have you tried capoing 1st fret and playing in "E"?)

I just bought a Simon Patrick 12 string - used - that I returned after I had time to inspect everything properly. I discovered thet the lower bout had issues as well as some bracing being broken. Way too many problems for me. I am in the process of "high stringing" another of my acoustics and will give a report as soon as I complete the task.

Mz Lena, you Old Doll, I just read a few posts back that you were having a little problem with your "little rear" swelling up since you been eating them bisquits and I wanted to offer some solutions.

If you are eating too many bisquits just try making them bigger. Then you tell everyone you cut down from 4 bisquits to 2 bisquits per sitting.

Never take a bisquit thats ready for the baking pan and deep fry that rascal. MMM-MMM good

Never add cheese to the bisquit dough prior to baking. This'en will make EVERYTHANG swell up.

Never add uncooked bisquits to your favorite fruit cobbler recipe before placing it in the oven. (Apple, pear, peach, cherry, strawberry) This will cause you to hurt yourself.

Never add a good sweetened cocoa powder to your bisquit recipe. It'll turn'em brown.

My Aunt suffered from severe migranes for years then she was checked for "T M J". This is an issue of your jaws not being aligned properly which creates pressure that brings on these headaches. (hope I'm explaining this correctly). Her treatment included having her jaws broken, re-aligned and wired shut until everything was back in  proper alignment. Her migranes went from many to very rarely and the ones she did have was less severe with pain. Do a internet search for TMJ symtpoms as see if that could a part be your problem.

nela.

Go to a lighter guage pick.

Yep, I done been firmly chastized and rightfully so. As I read what manicbassman posted I realized just what I had done in my post. The only excuse I can offer is that I was at work, in a hurry to leave and get to the company crawfish boil and didn't re-read my post. Sorry 'bout that.
