Good one, EB ... reminded me of some lines from Alice Cooper's "School's Out":

"Well we got no class
And we got no principals
And we got no innocence
We can't even think of a word that rhymes."

Yup, that's a metal song if I ever heard one. In my head I hear the verses as a spoken growl over a heavy bass riff, and some power chords backing the chorus being sung. It'll be interesting to hear what you come up with, Beamer.

MKM had some great advice here about artificial nails a couple years ago, and was comparing the two types that estheticians use (Acrylics and Gels). If memory serves, I believe she recommended the Gel Nails, but can't recall why. Perhaps she'll join the discussion and set me straight. smile

That's an ordeal for the record books ... wow! Glad they eventually got you sorted out, and you're on the mend.

A friend who plays and teaches classical guitar guards his right hand fingernails like they were gold. He told me he's gotten in the habit of doing more with his left hand, so he doesn't risk breaking nails. It's his livelihood, so as fanatical as it sounds it makes sense. Our own CG has said he uses the pads of his fingers, so a RH splinter would likely slow him down.

Glass Hammer    "If the Stars"    Gettysburg, 2015

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w9XUsLyByf4

Glass Hammer's "Double Live" DVD was recorded at their performance for The Rite of Spring Festival, in Gettysburg PA in May 2015. Of the 12 acts that performed over the three days, GH were declared by Prog Magazine to be:

"... the boldest set of the weekend. Steve Babb (bass) and Fred Schendel (keyboards) have always succeeded in creating an ensemble that fully complements their sense of musical grandeur.”

Personally, I would have to say that GH are one of the greatest prog bands to come out of the USA, and there have been many. Haling from Chattanooga, TN, everything about their performance is passionate, skillful, and tightly played ... enjoy!

The "Band Geeks" have just surpassed their impressive array of quality covers, with this 18-minute version of Yes's magnum opus "Close to the Edge". I don't think a basement band has ever done a cover as ambitious / amazing as this one. If you're a Yes fan, get ready for the goosebumps!

Thanks, UJB ... If I ever decide to retire and have some extra cash at the time, I'm going to get to one of these Chordie shindigs.

Nice work, Phill, once again ... good lyrics which evoke vivid images, and warm yet sad thoughts.

Nice to see an original piece from Alexandr, although his covers are very creative and well-executed.

Slang and dialects have been a life-long fascination of mine. Every language has them, but English is so wide-spread around the globe that it seems to have many more variations .. all of them very interesting and enjoyable.

Good work, Beamer ... it's great that music lovers like you and I can share ideas about music (with the rest of our fellow Chordians), even though we're thousands of miles apart and may never meet.  Glad you found something encouraging to think about! smile

Hello WVBIKER ...

Chordie is a search engine that scans the web for Chords and Tabs for songs, and brings them all together in one place. If there are only Tabs for a particular song posted anywhere on the Internet, then that's all there will be available for Chordie to load.

When you open up a song, there's a window at the right with five stars across, which says something like "This is #3 of 5 versions". There's a drop down window just under those stars, which you can open to select from however many versions are available. Some are going to be Chords, some will be Tabs. The search engine finds them all, so that people who prefer either one should find a version they like. I'm 61, and sometimes use chords or tabs, depending on what I'm trying to learn.

I hope this helps you out!

Another beautiful song, TIG ... one never knows what can happen in a relationship, except that everyone shares the pain when it goes wrong. You've captured all of that so very well.

Marillion    "A Few Words for the Dead"    Zelande, Netherlands, 2003

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZciWd6pqvSs

I just read that 5 suicide bombers killed themselves in Chechnya last Monday (Aug 20). No one else was killed, but the bombers themselves were aged 11 to 16 years of age ... my heart broke and tears flowed when I read this. I don't dare comment on this incident, but this moving song is about the barbarically inhuman practice of parents teaching their little ones to hate. Here are song of the lyrics of this tune, from Marillion's 1998 album "Radiation":

"Pick up the weapon, Marry it, give it your name
Define yourself by it, Take it down 'the disco

Trigger happy, pulling power, Lady killer, take 'em out
See the weirdos on the hill, Come to get you if you stand still

It carries on

Somewhere in history you were wronged, Teach your children to bang the drum
Tell all your family, tell all your friends, Teach your brothers to avenge.

It carries on

Or you could love, You could love

Not to make light of Pulp's situation, Bill, but that's frickin' hilarious. I love the feathers at the end of the pick guard. big_smile

I have a third but I wanted to let Phill look and see if it was acceptable to put on here.

As things go, we are still under the same roof and trying to maintain a likeable friendship while being semi separated.

I told her thanks fo rthe pain as it is a wicked mean MUSE.  and that i never thought I would write something like what I have about us.

So sorry to hear that these are personal experiences for you, man ... feel for ya. Thanks for your baring your soul, and please know we're rooting for both of you during these tough days.

Hi Pulp, and welcome to Chordie!

We've all had sore fingers before, while learning or after an extended spell of not playing. But I've never heard of nor seen anything as intense as your experiencing. I really feel for ya, man ... that's rough. Sounds like you've been very thorough in exploring a remedy, and I don't know of anything else. Hopefully, even without the padding, your fingertips will callus up enough over time, that your pain will reduce or subside. You might also try playing a classical or flamenco guitar for a while, with nylon strings.

Again, you're in a tough spot, and I sincerely hope you find a work-a-round so you can keep playing and enjoy it.
