Yeah Phill i got to agree, loved hearing a stripped down version too.
I guess if you do stripped down gigs you could always charge more for the extra entertainment?

Ok ....... here are some challenges for people from me and I am going to try and deliberately pick stuff I don`t think you would normally cover or something out of the ordinary if I can.
Lets see ......

neophytte  ....  An Original Song from any Chordie member.  You get to pick one from any of the talented song writers here in Chordie (just go to the song writing  section) and cover on of their songs in your own way smile

Roger Guppy  ...  A Heavy Metal number (of your choice).   I don't see you as a Heavy Metal musician (I might be wrong smile )............ so thats my challenge to you smile

easybeat   ...  A Cover of any of last months songs, performed by you as close as possible to the original cover, in other words, not making it your own version, or your own style smile

Ok ............ that will do for starters ......... smile

Jan
hey thats a real tough challenge, almost against my principles, don`t know if i`m up to it.but i give it a try.

OK Neo i have a challenge for you, well two actually.
the song is` reconsider`by Charlie Robison it`s not a difficult song.
BUT i would like to hear YOUR version not just a rerecording of the original.
Maybe look up the lyric/chords & do it without listening to the original.
are you up for it?

The chord chart is here for anyone else considering this challenge:

... but where is the second challenge??

I'm throwing these two out there, cause they are what I'm working on at the moment, for anyone that wants to try them:

Crazy, by Patsy Cline
You and me, by Alice Cooper

Two different ends of the spectrum, but both by artists whose last name begins with 'C' smile

Cheers

Richard

Neo the second challenge is to cover it,before listening to the original,i`d like your original take on the song. Not a straight copy.
Lovely looking strat by the way.

Thanks for that,i have to agree.I`ve written a few things lately about whats going on in the world.
In the past i would have felt frustrated or pissed off,but the writing it down has been a great release.

First is Best
people have told me
the first ones the best
never to be beaten
don`t compare to the rest
but in this case
i`m not so sure
i`d like to try plenty
i`d like to try more
although i`m still hoping
to find better yet
the more that i try
the more  i regret
after all this
i go back to the first
only because
it rhymes in the verse

When I see lyrics such as these, they always lead me to ask if the song or poem is autobiographical, but I agree with Phill: many of us know ladies like this, which makes for interesting relationships. Question for you, easybeat: have you and Peatle ever collaborated on a work you or he might have written? I get the impression you and he live near each other, is that correct and would such a thing (singing and playing together) be possible?

Thanks

Bill

Bill
yeah Pete lives about 10 min drive from my place, luckily right in the between his & my house
is THE PUB we often meet on a sunday for a pint & chat.
Yes i have covered his songs & he mine. But not really done anything together as we have a  very different approach.

Oh dear! Sounds like someone stood on your corns? Actually, this sounds like most of the women I know. I'm not a chauvinist, it's just a fact I'm afraid. I'm hoping you'll put this on the web somewhere so we can witness your vitriol from the horse's mouth, so to speak. Some great songs coming up lately.

Interesting interpretation Phill, not what i intended. But i did write this song
using words that were not obvious,i wanted it to be open to interpretation.
I haven`t a clue what it`s about,it`s just a bunch of words i put together.
thanks for comments

Point Of View
C                                                  Em
She was much more than the guilt that she wore
               Am                                       Dm
And the way that she walked and talked
G7            C
Only skin deep
She was much more than the car that she drove
and the way she combed and coloured her hair
C                                                             G7
Underneath a person you wouldn`t recognize
C                                              Em
Someone different ... with a disguise
Am             Dm                        G7      C
Protecting herself from the world
She changed her dress
She changed her shoes
But she just can`t change her mind
She changed her dress
She changed her shoes
But she just can`t change her point of view

Okay, easybeat, now you're gonna have to explain "scratch recordings" to me. I'm sure I have never heard the term used before. smile

Thanks

Bill

Scratch to me means one take ,no frills.
This is the way i always do it.
I guess thats what Jets means to.

that must have been fantastic to meet & sing with a great hitmaker.

Jets
I`m a great fan of scratch recordings, they capture the soul of a song.
Often a song is so gone over or reworked it loses some of it`s immediacy.
keep up the good work, don`t bother about a few blips in scratch recordings.

One of my first albums was `sweet baby james`
i just loved the sound of the acoustic on it.
It took me 40 yrs to have a go @ guitar,of course
i never played very well, but it was probably my first influence.
Other than that i guess i`m influenced by everything i`ve ever heard.

Thanks for your replies, maybe apathy was too strong a word.more unthinking or taking for granted.
I would like to think people like Jan & Phill & others of you who play live. get thanked or applauded for their time & performances.
A bit of generosity costs nothing. What got me writing this poem was, i went to a friends art exhibition, seems many people went
only for the free food and drinks.I have another friend that takes brilliant photos, when i show an interest, this quite guy is so thankful
that someones interested in his art.
So hey next time you hear a busker give them a coin or just a smile.

Ok i admit it,i used to not bother listening to peoples new music or thoughts.
But in the last few yrs on Chordie i`ve had a few people encourage me.
So i decided some time ago i would give back, as i know a kind word means
an awful lot to an artist/busker/musician.There are amazing people on Chordie
doing great things, but often given little support.I can only hope that more of you
listen and enjoy these wonderful artists.

Blood and sweat
often tears
on the canvas
passion and time
hung on a wall
not seeking compliments
only comment
nothing
wall of silence
lack of generosity
artist ignored

Old Things
I like old things,yes i do
whether a jacket or whether a shoe
shoes scuffed and worn
jeans ripped and torn
I like my old car
with it`s worn out seats
manual gears
body parts almost complete
i like things that rust
things with dust
things with mould
i like things that are old
and i like you
cause you`re old too!

I don`t really like doing rhymes, but i went crazy this time.

The Mountain King
What became of the mountain king
he used to rock he used to swing
had many hits.. at the top of his game
had it all... wealth and fame
but bought down by ..the use of drugs
sold to him by crooks and thugs
lost it all to bad advise
tried comebacks ..once or twice
minor hits here and there
but the best ...so long ago
that`s what happened to the mountain king
