A great read, Cam. Thank you for your post.
I sent my grandson a link. He would benefit from it, too.

Good job, Pix.
At first glance, I wonder why he didn't play that song a half step lower in E. If you are using a chop rhythm, covered chords are sometimes preferred.

I have been bugging Casey to sing this cool song by Pat Dailey for a long time. The poor kid was recovering from a cold, the worst sunburn of his life and the no-see-ums were attacking him but he got a good job on a song with difficult lyrics.

I actually have Gretchen Wilson's album (CD).  I like all her songs, and they are ALL very redneck!  smile  "One Bud Wiser", "Skoal Ring", etc... She was a "poor bartender" turned superstar.  A normal gal

I have no problem with rednecks. I know many who are "salt of the earth types" as well as fun to hang with.
But don't you think a gal with this much personality would be a riot at a party and/or a fun date?

Well,... Here goes............ I suggest that Tubatooter and myself sponsor a Chordie Southern Guitar Playing Symposium at the Flora-bama Bar on any date we can all agree on !!

I'm with you on that, Tandm3. They have open mikes on Sundays.
I was down there at the Flora-Bama with a out of town guest this weekend. The place constantly is changing shape.
They pitched a tent over the hurricane damage and set up a bar and some tables and the bawdy music never stops.

Not sure, Doc. There seems to be a lot of people interested in making music here in the Southeast. Guitars, boats, bars and beaches appear to have a positive correlation.
Lots of soulful players come from around here.

It's in the key of D. Pretty progression.

Sounds like drop D tuning. You can play it in standard tuning but you sacrifice that nice low D (E) string intro.
Intro goes: D,A,Bm,G then, D,A,G sus,G.
1st verse is same as intro except an A chord between the two sets of 4.
At "Have you ever been that kind of lonely" Chords go: D,A,G,A (twice)
then, "Have you ever missed somebody", Bm,C,C,B,Bb,A,F-pause-
intro chords twice.
The next part repeats all above.
After the words "I have", comes a bridge: (A),Bm,C,Bm,C,
D,A,Bm,G,D,Am,Gsus,G
Cool song! I might have to learn that sucker. Guaranteed to make the ladies cry and stir up some much needed sympathy for some some love starved dude.

Dear Ms.Alicep, projection is only a matter of "aiming" your voice at the person or place you are singing to (or at). If you call out to a person in the back of the room, you speak louder and focus your sound that distance away so you can be understood at that distance. It's a natural thing and with practice, projecting your voice will become automatic.
Singing, like talking, is communication. It's good to take your mind off yourself and your technical challenges and just focus on a person or group a distance away and be sure they are getting your musical message.
This also helps with stage fright or performance anxiety. Singing and playing to a target outside yourself with a song you know really well enables you to put your guitar strumming on automatic and concentrate on communicating an emotion and personal message to someone and see that they get it.
Try it. It works.

The intro chords are Am, Am7, Dm and Em - played with barre chords up high on the neck.
1st verse sounds like: (Am, G,Dm) 4 times, then play (barre all six strings at the 5th fret and cover the 4th string at the 7th fret) for 8 beats
then (same shape) cover the the 3rd string, 7th fret- for 4 beats, then Em for 4 beats.
"you made me"is Am, G,F. Then F, Em,Dm. "believe" Am.
Repeat intro chords then repeat all above.
Gotta go for now. Post back in if I can be more help.

With only three pieces, everybody in a band must overplay to fill as much as possible. It would be  great if you guys can sing a lot of three part harmony.
As the only guitarist, you must pound out chord rhythm and have the bass man and drummer play as much fill as possible during your lead rides.
