Here is a few pics the old Kingston 12 string I won in a raffle at The London Bus Pub a few weeks ago. Roger Banks fixed her up a bit converting her back to a 12er after being changed to a 6. Had a little ceremony tonight where the original owner, 88 year young Roscoe Jones was gracious enough to pen his name on it. It will always be treasured just for that alone. Roscoe says this guitar is older than I am - imagine the mojo that lives in her. I'm thinking of tuning her to open D and learning some slide guitar blues. Gotta dig that pick guard pattern!

Just bumping this up as a reminder. A little more than 2 months away. Zurf, Amy, Wayne, and Scott are confirmed plus Robert and Bill and some of my local friends. Anybody else making plans?

Nice!- Way to go Zurf - Love volleyball, so much fun (although I never played indoors - only in the sand).

Hi Dave - I read your post about jamming with some of the blues legends - very cool. Where are you from (I know - "north of here")? Check the chordiestock II thread - having a little party in Florida in February - all chordians are welcome!

Welcome to the site!

Crappie fishing was my favorite when I lived in NC - they start spawning in early spring, just when the temp starts getting warm. Spending a few hours in late March or early April in the afternoon sun on a lake with a cooler full of beer and a few dozen minnows- catching one on every cast and tossing em right back in. Thats fun fishing.

Any recommendations for a relatively inexpensive bass and bass amp? I figure I could get him a Bass for Christmas and an amp for his birthday (Jan 15th). I've already got him a good set of headphones because I don't think me or the neighbors could handle the consistent thump, thump.

I'm looking to go used because I believe you can get more bang for the buck in the used market. Any recommended brands / makes? Any I should steer away from?

I'm looking to get something in  the $300 range for each - $600 total for bass and amp.

Let me know what you think

He looks familiar - I found a guy wandering around our airport about a year ago who looks very similar.  Hope you 2 have a wonderful time!

Wow - another new guitar day - twice in the same week! Lucky me!!! And more importantly, I am the proud winner / owner of one of Roscoe's guitars!

There was a charity event at the London Bus Pub tonight including the CD release of Roger's tribute album of David Bowie tunes and the official unveiling of Deb's mural. The evening's funds were donated to the Wounded Warrior Project and included a raffle for various prizes. Several kind folks donated various pieces of art, CD's, crafts, gift baskets, etc to be raffled off. The best prize offered was one of Roscoe's guitars - a 12 string Kingston he said is older than I am.

The way it worked was you bought your tickets and placed the matching ticket into a bag of the item you hoped to win. I put all of my tickets in the Roscoe Guitar bag - it was the last raffle of the night and I won!

I don't know much about it other than that it is a Kingston and is 50 years or so old. Roscoe had converted it to a 6 string (replacing the nut), so i gave it to Roger to change the nut and saddle and convert her back to a 12. I don't imagine it is worth much, but the fact that it is Roscoe's means I will cherish it always. Roscoe was there and said he was very pleased that I was the one to win it - that meant a lot to me- you'd have to know Roscoe to understand.

I don't have a pic of the actual guitar, but it looks just like this.

Well after the martin went missing and i was confident i would get reimbursed, I went shopping for another. Found a good deal on a minty Gibson J-45 and I now have her in my possession! I made sure the seller required a signature and took off work early yesterday to make sure I was here when it arrived. Well dammit - don't you know UPS ran early yesterday so I missed it! I immediately tracked the package on UPS.com and told them to leave it at the terminal for pick-up and I got her today during my lunch break.

She is beautiful looking and sounding, a pleasure to finger pick and strum. I thought my CA was a loud guitar - it is - this thing is just LOUDER!

Obligatory pics

I feel bad for the lady that sold me the guitar, but she is only out a guitar that wasn't being used - I couldn't just sit back and pay $$$$ for a guitar I never saw or touched! The onus is on the shipper to protect themselves. The receiver simply cannot do it - I can't order insurance or require a signature for something shipped by another!

I've got my eye on another - may be a NGD tomorrow. But no details until she is in my arms!

Well, I'd rather have had the guitar, but at least I'm getting my $ back. Email from PayPal:

"We have concluded our investigation into your case and have decided in your
favor."

My account has been duly credited.

Time to go shopping for another smile

I warned you the fingertips are gonna hurt! If you can survive a couple of weeks, you'll build up some nice callouses and your 80% there. I really believe the main reason most beginners quit is they can't get through the finger pain. Callouses are a badge of honor, wear them proudly!

Welcome Mitter B to the friendliest guitar forum on the entire interwebs. I've met many great friends here from all corners of the globe and the depth of knowledge and skills is extraordinary. It truly is a chordie family and I am very excited you have joined and will be sharing your guitar experiences.

A NGD (New Guitar Day) thread would be great - tell us about your new guitar - let me know if you need help posting pictures! Sure would like to see some shots of that new Martin!
