Well Done, Sir. Another excellent number

Every time I hear that song now I think of a pickup truck.
I would think an unknown artist having their song used in a commercial would be a compliment but an artist that is already famous for the song would probably just consider it another source of income.

I couldn't agree more. The most irrating thing for me is sucessful bands selling their music to be used in commercials. The Rolling Stones????? Do they need money???? How much is enough? I can understand a struggling artist selling their music but popular acts should be ashamed of themselves. It just seems greedy to me...that's all. I can understand the band that has to eat but the big name acts just end up looking greedy and pathetic.

They did go up. They used to be a decent value but no longer. Quality as I understand it is not what it once was. I'm not sure why music vendors think raising prices is smart business. I know costs are increasing but someone should let them know there is a global recession going on.

Johnny Cash's cover of 9 Inch Nail's "Hurt"
Luther Allison's cover of The Rolling Stones "You Can't Always Get What You Want"
Dr. John's cover of Stevie Ray Vaughan's "Cold Shot"
The Duhk's cover of Sting's "Love Is The Seventh Wave"
Joan Jett's cover of the theme song to the Mary Tyler Moore Show
Bonnie Raitt's cover of John Prine's "Angel From Montgomery"
Willie Nelson's cover of Billie Joe Shaver's "Fast Train to Georgia"
Ray Charles' cover of the classic "Georgia", also covered by Willie Nelson
Mavis Staple's cover of Bob Dylan's "You've Got to Serve Somebody"
And since we've got Bonnie Raitt and SRV mentioned in the same post, I'll add her version of "Pride and Joy" for consideration.

Self-Covers:
Jimmy Buffett covered his own song "Son of a Son of a Sailor" on his album "Take Me To Margaritaville", and I like it far better than the original.
Eric Clapton did an acoustic cover of his own "Layla" (from Derek and the Dominoes period), which I like very well.

I'm sure I'll think of some more.  I love covers.  It's always fun to hear how someone else interprets the same lyrics and brings an entirely different style and feel to it.

Darn, I forgot about Willie Nelson's version of Georgia...well done sir. that's a great one.

I love your list especially number 1. I like these (I tend to gravitate towards the unusual ones)

Cake performing Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive" or Bread's "Guitar Man"
Chris Cornell covering Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean"
Bowling For Soup doing Britney Spear's "Baby, Hit Me One More Time"
Ben Folds doing Dr Dre's "B*****s Aint Shit"

ok i am looking for a good electric that is good for rock... what are good brands???

thanx!!!

Michael Kelley's Fairly priced and more bang for your buck.  They are well made and can be hotrodded and fine tuned plus the quality of their workmanship is top notch.

Bootlegger.

I second Michael Kelly. Also try Agile. High quality Korean Les Paul copies that IMHO are a far better vaule than Epiphone or any one else even at twice the price.

Add me into the "Guitar Hero is stifling would be musicians" group as well. The negatives outweigh the positives by far. For everyone kid that gets inspired to take up "real" guitar because of it 1,000 never pick it up at all. After playing GH real guitar seems like way too much effort

I'm in  my 40's and I think texting is great. I consider it a less intrusive way to contact someone (alot like email is). I hope people use it in this manner. When I need to tell someone something but it's not critical email or text is my preference. As far as the younger "texting maniacs" a few years back they were just babbling on the cell anyhow. These types will always be "that way". Don't blame texting (or email for that matter). It's great technology. If it saves me from being on the phone and allows me to check it when it's convenient, then it's for me.

I agree with Doug Smith. While the software and PC/Mac machine is important the most critical part is the interface. Software can be confusing or frustrating but usually it can be overcome and some machines lack the "horsepower" but, for me, a bad (or no) input interface device can not be easily overcome

Like you say Doc, it can go either way. Van Halen went south for sure but Pink Floyd maintained after Waters (and Barrett for that matter). I'll say I liked the band best with Waters in it but they were no slouches after he left. Another one of my favorites was Little Feat and I just think when Lowell George left (OK died...wasn't really his choice) it was never the same.

Me too. I do not want to be a peeper!!! I'm reading this post and don't have much to say but....

In the US, IMO:
1. Football
2. Baseball
3. Basketball
4. Hockey

Fantastic job...best yet. I really admire the way you can make the song your own but stay true to it at the same time. Well done Sir!!!

I second that!!!! Its perverse, amusing and disgusting. The only problem I can see is most folks try to avoid seeing, hearing or possessing a Babbling Sphincter

This means you gotta wipe your butt on the shower curtain.

Or...how about clogging the toilet like that scene from "Dumb and Dumber"?

If you don't love picking it up and it doesn't give you pleasure....maybe it's not for you. Life's too short to waste time. Playing for me has never been a chore and the pleasure has always outweighed the frustration and pain. Most folks here are the same way. thinking back to when I first started, the progress you make in the first year is VERY satisfying. You will not progress this quickly as time goes on. believe it or not this is the best, most fun time in your guitar playing journey.

Sure they do.  Get to some local band shows and see.  They just don't sell them like that anymore.

I am a fan of independent music but having Lennon, McCartney and Harrison all writing songs for 1 album...I just haven't seen anyone come close

I recently bought a Dean Markley Pro Mag and was a little dissappointed. It makes my 12 string Alvarez sound a little like a banjo. I've tried different positions in the sound hole and it just doesn't capture the lows the way I had hoped. It is the single coil version, perhaps the humbucker version would be better.
