Is he the guy who shows up on one of the shopping channels pitching his "signature" guitar and lesson plans??

I have Asperger's Syndrome and when I first found out about forums and spent a lot of time on them.  It shocked and then sickened me about the number of "TROLLS" who would come on just for the joy of provoking fights, creating discord and just plain trying to bully others.   I learned the hard way that small minds are not worth large amounts of energy.  As KAP54, succinctly posted, these people have nothing better to do.

alvee33, I like the uptempo version you did of "Wild Mountain Thyme".  The only version I ever heard was done slowly.  Which is fine for some songs.  But, my teacher showed me an uptempo version of "Star of the County Down" and that was quite lovely.

Either way, there are many interpretations of a tune or tunes.  And whatever pleases the ear of each individual works.

Honestly, try Classical Gas. Not nearly as difficult as you think-that's my current piece to learn.

Thanks for the encouragement!  That is a powerful incentive!  And much appreciated!

A toast to all of you that show your work on YouTube.  And I hope to see them all!  Post the link and I'll go thru them, everyone.  And my comments will be constructive!

Kudos and cheers!

Will Brandy suffice??  <grin>

Motorcycles, bicycles, cars, snowmobiles-I like motors. Also photography and writing, although writing leads back to music.

Do other instruments count? I also play bass, alto saxophone, piano, drums, and I'm reasonably competent on the violin.

My teacher plays mandolin, teaches violin, plays piano, slide guitar etc.  I would certainly say other instruments COUNT big time.

It's always about the music!  <grin>

I've only ever been brave enough (or found the time to) to post one video of myself playing. It's a particularly bad version of Wild Mountain Thyme. I posted it anyway since that's more or less how you'd get it if you were sitting at my campfire or whatever. Mistakes and all. It's here...

The thing that get's me about the kind of folk Ken is talking about is not the fact that they post negative comments, but that they are so very abusive and with sometimes extremely offensive language. And also that they never have anything posted of their own. Maybe they have a different account for posting than they have for abusing.

P.S. I like the comment about the whisky spelling, Zurf. Consider it stolen.

I liked it.   As for people being offensive and abusive, well, just consider them internet vandals, people who get off by trashing other people's hard work.   And if people are like that, they are not posting their work and I doubt they have anything anyway.  They're just a bunch of TROLLS.  Just don't feed them, if they can't get their poops and giggles in one place they'll find it someplace else.

Anyway, I look forward to seeing others works!

Peace

Oh and one other thing, I am a rock hound.  I love to scan the ground looking for weird, funky or cool rocks.  I have a piece of basalt that looks like a dinosaur tooth.  And I love to visit the nearby gemstone quarries of the Greenwood Maine or Conway New Hampshire and dig thru the old quarry tailings to see what I can find.  My daughter has found lots of garnets and even a piece of Amethyst in and around our house.  Some of the mountain rivers and streams have given me the best rocks for landscaping.

Did I mention I was weird!  <grin>

Considering the stuff I have seen posted by so many others on YouTube.  I can only say, ignore the crap and just do what you want.  Seriously, some people just love to post negative or nasty comments because of the "anonymity" factor.  Stuff they wouldn't dare say in Public becomes "Ok" on the net.

Now, I want to hear stuff by fellow chordians on youtube, could you please pm or email me your links to your work.  I'd really like to hear.

Peace

Oh lord, somebody beat me to it!  LOL

Well here goes, I am besides a music lover............a volcano lover, I am a volcano fanatic, I hunt down pictures, books, websites, etc, anything about volcanoes.   The book stores that specialize in geoscience books have a name for people like me, "Shake and Bakers".  I can tell you the old volcanic spots around the White Mountains of New Hampshire near where I live.
I and my family have visited some recent volcanoes in New Mexico.  Driven thru old lava flow sites near Spokane Washington.  And I am pretty damn sure I have the biggest Volcano and volcano related book collection in the the State of MAine.

Second, I am a devoted Star Trek Book reader.  The movies bore me to tears.  I'd rather read the book that the movie is based on, then watch the movie.

I have a complete collection of all the "Doc Savage" pulp fiction stories ever written by "Kenneth Robeson".  And I am also a devoted Dr. Who fan.  (British sci-fi tv)

And finally, but not least.  I am a devoted "dumpster diver" scavenger who goes to his local dump and pours over the potential scavengeable stuff for repair or recreation into something new.   My love is to take something and make it into a thing that I would have liked as a kid.  Ex.  I found a nice round wooden base, attached a cute little ceramic planter that had sun faces all around it.  I painted the suns bright gold and the bowl sky blue.  I painted the base a nice green color, then attached the bowl to it with craft glue.  Put two wooden posts with brass hanging hooks.  Glued several neat ceramic figurines of flowers and an old style water pump.  When it was done I called it a "Kids Stuff holder", then I gave it away to a local group that does a fund raising auction to benefit the local high school.   I have made hundreds of these over the last 10 years.  Sadly, ever since the "Antiques Roadshow" pickings are getting slimmer and slimmer.  Oh and along the way I have salvaged and refinished a number of old pieces of furniture for our own uses.

I subscribe to Smithsonian, National Geographic, Earth, Science Illustrated and NAtional History magazine as I am a voracious reader.

I also love to hike and make it a point to do at least on BIG hike a year on a peak that I have yet to climb.  Mt.  Katahdin in Maine was the most challenging and the most rewarding and soul satisfying hike I have ever done.  Oh yes, and I do a hike every year on or near my birthday.  9/13

Argh, I nearly forgot, I am a big fan of the Fantasy/pulp fiction writer Robert E. Howard, (creator of Conan the Barbarian) and the horror writer H. P. Lovecraft. (The Cthulhu Mythos)

<phew I'm exhausted.>  <grin>

Hang in there!

I've been playing for about a year, and I've made pretty good progress. I know most of the easier chords, like G, E, F, D, A, C, Dm, Em, Am, etc etc etc
But the lessons are helping a lot.

Ditto.  And I sure consider myself lucky that I can afford lessons.

Dang, I know what song you mean and it's dancing on the tip of my tongue,  one of the other lyrics goes, "I'll show him that a "cadillac" is not a car to scorn."  And the song ends with the little car that went beep beep beep, passing him calling out,

"Hey buddy can you tell me how to get out of second gear".

i'm not sure what era ZZ top is from but i play a few of their songs. iplay a lot of worship music, you would be surprised how many heavy metal christian bands their are, a few being Underoath-dead poetic  just to name a few.

ZZ top was more an 80's Texas Blues/rock/funk band.  Their style is quite unique and they played some seriously good stuff. They get kudo's from me for their longevity/stability as a band and quality of their sound!

A lot of my favorites are from the 60's.   even though I'm looking at some stuff from the Ray Orbison catalog of works.   Dang, talk about people who die too soon.  <sigh>

Hi Ozymandias, We call it Celtic music, it has a lot of Scottish roots.  A guitar and  fiddle can be a lot of fun.

Thats some of the music I am learning in my "Olde time String Band" group class.  My teacher,  Seth Austen, loves that stuff and he leads our class with a fiddle, while I and one other member plays guitar and and there are several others who play mandolin and fiddle.  It's great fun and challenging!

Out of curiosity, I am trying to recall what they call the Music style up there in the Atlantic Provinces of Canada??

I'm into folk mainly, but, I also try Blues, Appalchia/bluegrass, even some pop/rock, Beatles, Lovin Spoonful, CS&N, etc, Celtic, Country, reggae, classical, if there's a tune I like I'll try it.

It would seem the majority are a blend of self taught and books and collaborative doing.  And then there are some who are blessed with the ability to just pick it up.  But, in the end all that matters is just playing and loving it.
