You play in a band, and me? I wrote the melody and the lyrics. The band has a huge hit resulting in a million seller.
Probably the so called "simple question will depend on a lot more factors.
You earn a lot of money, but on the 1000$ WHO GET'S WHAT? in %.
- THE BAND?
- THE person who wrote the melody and lyrics?
- THE RECORD company?

If I write a multi million seller hit, NO performing or playing in a band, I simply wrote it, what would be "my cut"?
Or is it a lot more complex depending of who has the song rights?
What is the share of the band?
Is a MANAGER, a PRODUCER getting more.
THIS IS A TOPIC I REALLY LOVE, and I think it is an interesting topic giving us an idea about who gets what of the multimillion pie.

I read so often "songs to play in church, amps and guitars to play in church"
Here in EUROPE we don't have that playing in church, so a few questions.
- In what church do most of you play? You have SO MANY DIFFERENT RELIGIONS to end up finally with JESUS & GOD.
- is it typical for "baptists" or "protestants"?
I remember me negotiating 15 yeras ago to settle me in the USA and practice there. One of the first things they told me was that I needed to choose and go to Church.

SO IS RELIGION IN THE USA SO IMPORTANT? In Europe and especially in Belgium the churches get more empty every year.
And I really still don't get it, why "churches" are so important in your country.
My APOLOGIES for asking this. I hope I didn't hurt people by asking this.

WHO IS THE GREATEST "SONG SMITH" THE LAST 50 YEARS?
I GO FOR:
- BOB DYLAN.
1)Why? he is a master in writing songs that EVERY SINGLE guitar player can play.
His songs have a simple structure in fact, 3 to 4 chords and the chord sequence he uses.
He might be not the best guitar player  but if I could only reach his ankles, I swear: tommorow I will play sitting in my wheelchair (no joke my friends I have a wheelchair now, but still able to walk WITH my crouches) and play 20 Dylan songs.
2) What? playing 30 Dylan songs are recognized immediately.
3) Other? How many songs didn't he write for other bands, especially th BYRDS.
He wrote a lot of songs for a lot of people and if you ask the man on the street who wrote The Mighty Quinn, the answer would be MANFRED MANN. "All along the watchtower" a lot will answer JIMI Hendrix, "Like a Rolling Stone" the STONES and I can go on for a long time, but the last song "KNOCKING ON HEAVENS DOOR" Gun's n Roses of course.

Yes we have Lennon & McCartney and many others but the "song emperor" is BOB DYLAN

Those who missed the boat are musicians who left (voluntary or not) the band who became very huge.
1) THE BEATLES: In the original line-up and performing in HAMBURG Pete BEST (who was extremely popular for female fans) had to leave the band in 1962 just before the breakthrough.
2) ROLLING STONES: Andrew Loog Oldham removed him because he "didn't fit" but he was a roadie and continued playing piano and keyboard

Are there other bands you know where a member preferred to do something else or was removed from the line-up?

I read a lot, from making a pancake to a bomb, and of course music is my favorite.
In a lot of comments people (criticists) are mentioning that a band starts to deny their roots by playing commercial music.
This is something I CAN'T UNDERSTAND. MY OPINION =
1) If you make an album it isn't to hang on your wall.
2) a so called "not commercial" band, why do they make an album?
3) conclusion NOT COMMERCIAL = COMMERCIAL.

I love to read critics on albums, theater, movies. The people writing this are often musicians without a job and some frustration projecting their own "failure" & " problems" on another band.

My opinion is that there are 5 categories.
1) Cheap Price Class = from 50  - 300$300$ (There are some great guitars in that categorie)
2) Middle Price Class = from 300 - 700$
3) Higher Price Class = from 700$ - 1200$
4) Very High Class = 1200$ - 2000$
5) Top Price Class = from 2000$ up to 5000$ and more.

DO YOU AGREE OR BOT? Please give me your opinion about these small list.

IS THIS A DREAM OR A REALITY?
A lot of guitars were really affordable 10 years ago. EXAMPLE: "TAKAMINE".
I believe that Takamine was in the second category 10 years ago. More and more people started playing Takamine, even great artists. This results in the fact that Takamine is far more expensive than 10 years ago, and she moved up to category 3 and some in category 4.
WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THIS LIST? Or you can add something if I am wrong or if you don't agree with my classification.

Glad we all know "THE BEATLES", but who knows "THE RUTLES"?
This band is the "baby" of the MONTY PYTHON members and it is real GENIOUS.
A fictional band joinly created by Eric Idle and Neil Innes.
It is an amazing pastiche of The Beatles.
The group is best known because of the 1978 "MOCKUMENTARY" television film about them, titled All You Need Is Cash (often referred to as just The Rutles).
The movie is amazing and if you have never heard about them and you listen to one of their song with your eyes closed YOU HEAR THE BEATLES.
Even the names and the evolution of the band is almost identical.
John Lennon is named RON NASTY, Paul McCartney is DIRK Mc QUICKLY, George Harisson (played by an Indian Guy, reason his close contact with Indian musicians and sitar) is called STIG O' HARA and Ringo Starr is BARRY WOM original name BARRINGTON WOMBLE = Richard Starkey. So it is ALL A "BEATLES PASTICHE" but very meticulous, almost real horrifying, but really HILARIOUS. I must admit that BRITISH HUMOR is one of the best there is. Neil INNES was the frontman of the ex-Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band), The Beatles at that time were huge fans of that band AND Monty Python. They were also good friends with the Beatles.
Some songs are really amazing and you can fool a lot of people by playing a RUTLE'S album and tell that this is an album with lost tracks. Also the song titles:
- Sgt. Rutter's Only Darts Club Band.
SOME LINKS:
http://www.rutles.org/rstory.html
http://www.youtube.com/results?search_q … oq=the+rut
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Rutles .
They have 2 movies (but I'm not sure)
1) ALL YOU NEED IS CASH = Closely follow the Beatles, the Beatlemania and chronological. George Harisson plays a cameo role as interviewer. You will also see and hear MICK JAGGER giving comment on the Rutles.
2) TRAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR.
DO ME A FAVOUR AND WATCH THEM ON YOUTUBE, I would love to have some opinions.

James there are some more, but I forgot on which site their on.
CONCERNING:
- THE RUTLES: you find a lot of material concerning the RUTLES.

A magic number.
THIS THREAD is posted already but maybe 1 year ago.
The number of members are doubled which is the REASON of post it again.
CAB PLAYING "AIR GUITAR" be considered as a spinal tap moment? For me yes. The world championship was 1 or 2 weeks ago and it is just "HILARIOUS" to see.
We did the same on parties in the early seventies.

Yes YOUR EYES ARE OK.
In fact it is not THAT difficult.
Do you remember these people?

1) THE ARCHIES? they had a smash hit with Sugar, Sugar written by Jeff Barry and Andy Kim on number 1 in the BILLBOARD and so the first multimillion sold record by "cartoon figures" was a fact. Of course the musicians were studio musicians. So a set of studio musicians were assembled by Don Kirshner in 1968 to perform various songs.
SO =  "Sugar, Sugar", , which went to #1 on the pop chart.
The band existed from 1968 - 1975 as long as rge ARCHIE show.
2) SPINAL TAP
Yes the famous "Rockumentary." I think they play for real and wrote songs too, like Stone Henge, Sex farm, Hell Hole.
3) The BLUES BROTHERS = a band formed by Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi as part of a musical sketch on Saturday Night Live.
4) THE RUTLES = Monty Python’s Eric Idle created The Rutles, whose fictional career paralleled the Fab Four’s in every respect. There is an amazing film, even albums like "All you need is cash" and songs as GET UP AND GO (= Get Back) Rutle Soul, Sgt. Rutter’s Only Darts Club Band and Tragical Mystery Tour.
5)The Commitments.

Shame on you if you didn't see these 2 movies:
1) Spinal Tap
2) The RUTLES: with Tragical History Tour = The history of the Prefab Four, from The Cavern in Rutland to Shabby Road, featuring pictures and sound files of interviews with the Rutles and other Rutlistic people, even Mick Jagger played in the movie interviewed by a reporter about the competion between Rutles AND Stones.
This is a MUST SEE movie. I have 30 songs of them. Close your eyes and you are 100% convinced that you hear the BEATLES.
IF YOU FIND MORE PUT IT HERE

Well dear fellow chordian, that's a mystery. As you know I do quit a lot of research BEFORE posting a topic (80% = blood, swear and tears to find what I want).
I mentioned this after the "amazing discovery" of some lists about the best guitar players.
If you see the first thread I mention GUITAR GODS like CLAPTON, HENDRIX, SRV, JEFF BECK and JIMMY PAGE and probably I forget a few. I didn't mention SATRIANI, VAI, MALMSTEEN. They are fantastic and great guitar players but my opinion is that these guitarists are VERY, VERY SKILLED because they had probably A MUSIC EDUCATION. Malmsteen is an amazing player but is he really playing straight from the heart or is he showing us HOW GOOD HE IS?
Try to find 5 different lists of the top 100 guitar players and the results will never be the same.
You will find indeed one constant factor: Hendrix, Page, Beck, SRV, Clapton in the top 10. I also mentioned that in one list GILMOUR is on 9 and in another list on 56. "LISTMANIA" is strange.
In the Rolling Stone top 100 you will find Mark Knopfler on 27. If I put a CD in my CD player with JJ CALE you will be convinced that it is Mark Knopfler. I would rather say that KNOPFLER has PERFECTED the JJ CALE style. And so we can start to discuss about who influenced who, which gives us a nice new topic.

To answer your question NO, this is what I will have soon
http://www.korg.co.uk/products/effects/ … x_px5d.asp

The link you give is for the Korg Pandora PX4D which I have already. The PX5D has a lot more possibilities and I really hope to put finally some songs on my PC. Concerning my BOSS I have a laptop, and I will use it for recording songs. I bought that laptop in 2006, because I had surgery to be better, the surgery itself was 100% perfect, (my left foot is completely immobile) and since that moment my back is going worse month by month. I even have a wheelchair now.
A STORY I DON'T LIKE TO TELL, BUT IT IS A RELIEVE:
The purpose of the surgery in 2005 is because I'm born in 1955, and I wanted to do something.
= BEING A MEDICAL DOC ON A CRUISE BOAT. Every single person told me "they will never accept you knowing what you have" except me of course. I have a strong character and a fighters mentality, so I wrote my CV and I even had an appointment with the guy responsible for recruiting the medical staff. ON Valentine's day 2006, he accepted me and my child dream was always "to be a captain on a ship." I was accepted on 14/02 I was the 5th officer in rank and he told that for an MD it was love boat. Every doc lasted not longer than 3-5 years before marrying an American woman (GUESS WHO). I had an appointment on the embassy, he send me books, "emergency medicine" I bought a laptop, a brandnew and expensive cell phone with a 2mp camera, to find out finally that they contacted my treating doctors, who told them some more than I did. BYE BYE CRUISE and THE WORST PERIOD IN MY LIFE. Very good salary, high ranked officer (captain & senior officer") the only officer who was on deck a lot of time, a cabin with a flatscreen of 42 inch and WOMEN of course. Problem: you see at least 5 heart attacks a year in the middle of the ocean, the "adrenaline" allows you to sit on your knees and do everything it takes: intubation, heart massage, defibrillator, and if that person dies, they have to be with 3 to help me to stand up, my leg is paralysed and I should walk like a drunk =  complaint = Miami PD = jail = bailing out = not leaving Miami. And EVERYTHING ON SUCH A BOAT HAS TO BE PERFECT, 1 spot on your uniform = change uniform. THIS IS THE WORST THING THAT HAPPENED IN MY LIFE knowwing that you were the best candidate the last 20 years, to see forfill your CHILD DREAM and finally NOT. Thiss was far the worst period in my life.

Dear RUSS do you have already experience with the KORG PANDORA PX5D? The successor of the KORG PANDORA PX4D?
I ordered one but the stock was gone, so somewhere in September I will get my korg.

HERE SOME SPECS CONCERNING THIS DEVICE, not much bigger than a package of cigarettes.
A compact processor for guitar and bass with a built-in USB computer audio interface.
200 multi-effect programs, “REMS† modeling technology. 180 variations of classic and cutting-edge guitar amps, bass amps, cabinets, classic and new effects. 744 rhythm and bass patterns.
Phrase Trainer function (maximum 80 seconds) is a great way to learn music by ear or to practice improvisation. "WHAT IS A PHRASE TRAINER IN FACT?". An Ableton Live Lite 6 Korg Edition† recording software is bundled with PX5D.
I know my PX4D the fantastic compagnon for those who play alone at house, and being disabled it is very light and allows me to sit in my seat playing with my korg and an amp brand LANEY (in factfor bass) Got it for free. 30W = more than enough at home.

The other item is a BOSS BR 600 with USB connection AND a Compact Flash card. Until today I can't place a song on my PC. Plugging my CF card in my PC, I always get BRO files and I can't use them at all, such a great device and yet NO RESULTS. How can I put music on my PC from BOSS to PC?
PLEASE HELP ME

Several times when people asked a question about the guitar and more in particular the sound, I wrote to go on youtube and listen to that 1 guitar you want.
Myspace & Youtube give an idea about a certain guitar.

MY QUESTION IS HOW MANY GUITAR PLAYERS GO TO THESE SITES TO HEAR THE GUITAR IN ACTION?
For me it gives a pretty good idea to see somebody playing an EPIPHONE SHERATON and compare it with IBANEZ or a GIBSON 335.
You have a guitar in mind, but difficulties to find it in a music store. I always answer
1) look in an online store.
2) if you have found a guitar you like, but you have to drive 70 miles to find a great music store, just to see and hear the guitar.
3) I believe the best thing you can do is see and gear the guitar on these 2 websites.

I bought 3 months ago a DUESENBERG 49er, I heard about the brand, went almost on every website and see that all comments are really great, I listened first to the 49er on youtube, and I got luck, I found a 49er in a very small store in Ostend (a city at the sea), priced 1100€ which is still 1700$. The 49er is made in Germany and they opened a few years ago a plant in the USA.
It is also the only guitar who's cheaper in Europe than in the USA. There you pay for a 49er at least 2300$. I have about 12 electric guitars and all big brands. UNTIL THE DUESENBERG, one of the cheapest, and the best guitar I ever played. So I
- FOUND IT ON YOUTUBE, I listened to the sound AND
- THE REAL SOUND is almost identical as the youtube sound.

Another point of view is that some members of a band are TOO SHY to play on stage.
In the very beginning of the Doors Jim Morisson faced the band and not the audience. He was too shy to sing with his face in the direction of the public.
Other bands like KISS, they could walk on the street without being recognised, so they used that special make up.

I listened to that band, they aren't bad at all.

I found a list edited by ROLLIN STONE with the top 100 of guitarplayers. What I expected wasn't like their list, they ranked the following guitar players:
1) JIMI HENDRIX = IS HE REALLY THE BEST GUITAR PLAYER EVER? I am convinced he is overrated.  He was very special and probably the greatest performer ever. Very skilled, charismatic and dead which leads always to new albums often live or with previously unedited tracks.
1. Jimi Hendrix
2. Duane Allman of the Allman Brothers Band
3. B.B. King
4 Eric Clapton
5 Robert Johnson
6 Chuck Berry
7 Stevie Ray Vaughan
8 Ry Cooder
9 Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin
10 Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones

Is this a surprising Top 10? BUDDY GUY on 30?, DAVID GILMOUR on 82? EDDY VAN HALEN on 70? It is surprising this list.
I was convinced to find KEITH RICHARDS IN THE TOP 10.
In other lists VAN HALEN is on 5, GILMOUR ON 10
THIS IS SO CONFUSING, and what are the criteria used to be in that list?

Interesting.
Wouldn't THE DOORS had success in the past without JIM MORISSON? I am convinced that they would be a "non important band"
But admit (I am NOT G..!!!!) Jim was a very attractive man, and very CHARISMATIC .

Dear friend Russell, I think I have Alzheimer's disease. I didn't notice there was a new section on chordie.
ME NOT NOTICING = REALLY BAD, BAD & BAD.
But since I discovered it CAN YOU PLEASE MAIL ME HOW TO PUT THE SONGS I RECORDED WITH MY BOSS BR 600 ON THE INTERNET. I tried everything and still NOTHING ZIP NADA NIENTE NIHIL.
Your good friend the Doc

I think this is a very intriguing topic. MUSIC + 1 FRONTMAN: where would you place them if they didn't had a special "charismatic" member.
In fact is this quit simple.
1) I am talking about bands who really got the credits they deserve
2) I am talking about bands who owe their popularity NOT by their music, but by 1 of the members.

The band QUEEN is in category 1 = really great songs and a majestic, hypnotizing FREDDIE MERCURY. (Did you know why his popularity was beyond everything in South America? Because of his mustache and clothes, leather pants: THEY HAVE A GREAT "MACHO CULTURE THERE)
About the band U2, if they didn't have BONO, they would be a main stream band.
THIS IS WHAT I THINK.
so:
- QUEEN = fantastic band, numbers and a "charismatic" frontman.
- U2 = good band but where would they be without BONO?

DO YOU HAVE EXAMPLES? WHAT IS YOUR OPINION? and have fun, (that's one of the few things I still have: making fun.)

I have a korg pandora PX4D. I saw that they have a new one the PX5D. For technical information go to the website of korg.
Since I am trying and trying to record some songs using a BOSS BR 600 with USB and CF cards, I am unable to put on my PC my own songs.
In the PX5D you have a device that fits in your pocket and an amazing number of effects, amps, rhythm + an ABLETON software CD & USB connection.
So I really hope to put some songs through that device and give them finally a place on my PC.

WHAT KIND OF TOOLS YOU USE TO RECORD?

623

So HOW DO YOU TAKE THE B CHORD? I take the B chord often on the 7th fret, but BE AWARE FOR NOT TOUCHING THE OTHER STRINGS, on the 4th fret B G D strings (without taking a barré on the 2nd fret). I wrote it already before, my greatest skill on guitar is SWITCHING CHORDS.
UNFORTUNATELY: No fingerpicking, sometimes flat picking but strumming is my "thing"

SORRY GUYS
I apology for the inconvenience, but in fact the question should have been this one.
WHO ARE THOSE GREAT SONGWRITERS WRITING FOR OTHER BANDS, and maybe they perform sometimes.
I think a good example is our old friend NEIL DIAMOND who wrote brilliant songs, but a lot of his songs were PERFORMED BY OTHERS, at least in the beginning.
- I'M A BELIEVER for THE MONKEES
- GIRL YOU'LL BE A WOMAN SOON

CAROLE KING is a fantastic example. Together with her partner "in crime" GERRY GOFFIN.
- In the 60ties she wrote a lot of songs for others: Aretha Franklin, The Monkees and many more.
SOME EXAMPLES OF HER GREAT TALENT.
1) 1961: "Take Good Care of My Baby" performed by Bobby Vee
2) 1962: "The Loco-Motion" performed by    Little Eva
3) 1966:  "Don't Bring Me Down" performed by The Animals
4) 1964: "I'm into Something Good" performed by    "Earl-Jean" McCrea, but better known HERMAN'S HERMITS.
5) 1967: "Pleasant Valley Sunday" pêrformed by The Monkees
6) 1968: "Wasn't Born to Follow" performed by The Byrds. But one of the greatest hits was YOU'RE SO VAIN ny James Taylor.
SURPRISED? I was overwhelmed discovering this.
- In the 70ties she "popped up" as a singer

THIS phrase deserves a topic on it's own.
Dear RUSSELL this isn't a joke I adore this phrase, and as a competition lover I want to see if there are chordians who can create short and similar PHRASES like Russ did.
BUT FIRST: Where and why does it come from? Where did you find it and what is the "catch" behind "long live the mutants? I love it so bad, I even envy you. (because I adore word games, anagrams, instant poetry, limericks)
It should be a great name of a band: THE MUTANTS, or THE MUTANTS ft RUSSEL. It's short and great. Love it RUSS, I see that a few "amigos" on chordie start quoting this.
WHO CAN DO BETTER?
MY PHRASES or WORDS:
I love TWISTED DNA'S , ET is BACK or the RODOCBOT (that's a nice one).
