I am getting a capo this weekend.  There are so many songs in "C" that I'd like to do but have such a problem with getting to F cleanly.  Wonderful!!

Very well said, Russell!

One thing I have learned about creating songs is that it takes real effort.  Flashes of inspiration must be followed up with determined effort.  For me, the process only works if I do it every day.  Some days things 'click', other days not much seems to happen.  But without deliberate and regular effort, nothing would ever make progress.

By the way, 'My Cowbelle' is taking shape - a few good lines and ideas, but lots of refinement is necessary.  I think this one will emerge soon.

for adjusting the harmonics  by changing the string length or to lower the action (string height above the frets)

tim keep writting and writting some songs are easier the melodies and words come fast but others only bits and pieces fall into place and thats when its harder and recording can be bliss or a nightmare sometimes inspireation doesn't transfer to the recording as fast as you thought it would but any idea is worth developing and the time and effort

a song melodie waifed from thin air and i coulden't get it off my mind so i grabed a sheet of music paper and my guitar and several minutes passed and i had a foundation for the song so i laid the accustic tracks and after listning the title "sloppy joes" came to mind and i pictured a bar kind of like a road house and the words kinda wrote themselves so i overlaid some distored electric tracks with some sustain and im still working on it.

another approach is to anticipate the next chord change on the 4th beat of the measure since your fingers are allready on the chord you can visulize where there going for the next measure,an example would be a easy progression say d  g  a  1 4 5 in the key of d all of these chords are open 1st posistion chords so it might look like d//change g//change a//change d//// the word change is on the 4th beat of each measure you dont change the chord there only think ahead to where your fingers are going for the next chord or 123change 223change323change423change it could help you to change chords in tempo

doc i think what he is talking about is a slim powrer amp that screws into a frame or cabinet along with other equipment like a PA,graphic equalizer special effects and power amp to provide the volts (power)to the other digital units,at least thats my slant on his question

topdown when i answered robhenb post i had no way of knowing what musical knowledge if any robhenb had.,i assumed she or he was a newbie so my comments were on a very basic level and 1 2 3 4 is as basic as abc when anyone asks for strumming help its only natural to keep a response limited.

topdown it could be that the reason it "clicked" and you got a "feel" for the music was that you understood what you were doing

Here's a link to a strumming lesson that I used.

I struggled with strumming when I first started too - trying to find the exact strumming pattern for the song I was playing. Then after a while, I just listened to the song, got a "feel" for the music and strum it in a pattern that sounds good and works for me. It's still much more of a feel thing for me than a technical count 1 and up / down, etc. It just "clicked" one day- keep at it and feel the rhythm, you'll get there.

robhenb i think you will get a lot of opinions on how to strum.if you are strumming a slow song in 4/4 time, down strum i strum for every beat in the measure count 1..2..3...4 and strum once on each count or you could strum down and up and count it as 1&2&3&4&... in 3/4 time (waltz time) you count 1..2..3.. to start with and get a feel for the 3/4 (waltz)time keep it simple and slow to start good luck.
