mixter its true you cant garbage up a song with just solo work it takes away from the identity of the song and without a foundation built on solid theory you dont really play "with the band" but yourself and thats a small group

Re: whats a good acoustic electric to buy (18 replies, posted in Acoustic)
i have a hohner electric accustic i paid 275.00 it stays in tune great and the action is as good as any i have played in the music store, naturally i would love a martin or gibson if not for the name itself and they dont make bad guitars but a experienced musician can make even a 2/4 with strings sound good and he can only play better on a fine instrument

Re: ABOUT GUITAR PLAYERS (6 replies, posted in Bands and artists)
i agree with bootlegger you have to learn the structure and then you can solo there are those who can solo and not know squat about rhythem and theory but they are very few in number the tried and true way of musical education in the long run will stay with you always.

Re: WHY HAS A GUITAR 6 STRINGS (7 replies, posted in Acoustic)
doc string instruments come in all shapes sizes and number of strings and there is a reason for each,it could be pitch that would be my best guess i dont know why "seasick steve" plays only 3 strings it could be because he likes the ease of playing or he has only 3 fingers your question fits in the "why cant i see the wind or can god make a rock so heavey he cant lift it"catagory there is no definitive answer

Re: Learning? (8 replies, posted in Acoustic)
arkady is correct try to focus on somthing that can lead you to where you want to be with your picking,to much to soon is not a good thing because learning is a slow methodical approach and to be honest i have played for over 45 yrs. and i dont understand all of your diagrams, simplifly less is more

no. put all the lines in front of you and just keep singing the words from the paper before you, sooner or later it will sink in just sing along with the recording it will be easier to memorize

Re: Help please... (6 replies, posted in Songwriting)
p..........try writting some words to a song, poem and read them aloud all words have a rhythem in them because as was pointed out earlier syllables and each one can be long or short even the word syllables is broken down into three parts syll..la..bles or dah dah dah in 4/4 time it would be expressed as 1 2 3 rest so conjure up several words try to rhyem them and then add meter to each group of words if you keep at it sooner or later you will have the foundation of a song and then you just (as was suggested) write as often as you can or carry some portable recording device with you when the mood hits you record what your thinking and listen and edit the ideas that might bear fruit, good luck

Ark its been a hell of a day and its only 12:35 and i have had to deal with to much bull$#$# from apple quick time,if your going to offer a "free"download there should not be strings attatched nor is the attempted sabatage of my profile page a way of endearing the apple corporation in the hearts of those who accepted this "free" offer the virginal quote your refering to was just for giggles and i am really not starting an old peoples revolution just blowing off some steam, not to worry my friend audacity is safe for the time being i am busy uploading some guitar vidios that deal with various chording and strumming methods the purpose being to help players who have a few years experience and to offer somethings i have picked up,other then that its been a pretty quiet day how you comming any new song your mixing?

you may enter by my proclamation and be dubbed the "old young fartz" i think i am the oldest fart so this grants me all the privilage unless an older fart usurps my proclamation
Question - At what age would one be considered eligible for entrance in the Old Fartz club? At 43, I certainly don't feel like I belong, but if you were to ask my kids, I am without a doubt an Old Fart
