I've been playing the dulcimer since the early seventies and own a few of them.  It's an amazingly addictive instrument and I love to put one in the hands of a non musician because you just can't hardly make a mistake on one.  I mostly play in a mixolydian tuning and often use a pencil and rubber band as a capo to change modes to get a minor type sound.  The internet has a lot of good tabs and I learned from one of the old Oak Publishing tab books which can maybe still be found with a little hard searching because they were pretty good books usually, well worth the search.

I play a little.
Thanks for the capo idea.

Casey is my 10 year old grandson who I am very proud of. He is learning guitar very quickly. I just have to teach his grandma to keep him off of her computer. smile

I only have one that comes to mind that fits that bill.
My wife and I were pulling into the parking lot at a grocery store in Bossier City,La. when Vince Gill's "Nobody Answers When I Call Your Name" came on the radio. We parked and listened to the whole song before killing the engine. I told my wife that it was going to be a hit and it was.

I had some repair work done to my Epi and the gentleman put a bone bridge and a shim on mine.It seems to have a brighter sound and the shim could be removed if I wanted the strings lower.

I don't do Ebay since they force you to use PayPal but I used to bid a little lower than my max and then check right before the auction was over.If I was out bid and I really wanted it I would bid again.

At last! A song I may be able to remember the words and chords to without the music in front of me. But I'll never get it done as nice as he!

My sister in-law has played a lot longer than I have but she hasn't been playing much lately. We got her to do a few songs at our Thanksgiving get together and I was watching intently to pick up some pointers and I noticed this is how she played a G chord.Thumb on 3rd fret low E and index finger 3rd fret high  E string. I tried it but I saw no benefit for me and it takes me too long to get in position for C or what ever the next chord happens to be.

Hey all, thanks for the input and info. I'm glad that not finishing the neck is a standard thing and not just shoddy workmanship. We're going to try some finger position markers for the neck and try to find some online video instruction for her. Hopefully she'll stick with this (unlike the piano and acoustic and bass guitars) if not then maybe I'll give it a try. (I always enjoyed Charlie Daniels)  . I'll try to keep an update of her progress here. Again thanks for your input

Any updates to share? Our middle grandson got one for Christmas and none of us can help him get started.

I think it is a shame we can't hear the tone of voice  and see the sparkle in the eye when someone posts a post with a sense of humor. I think if we could a lot of apologies would be unnecessary. Till then I'll use patience.

Hi Gus,
I have been been learning for a very long time(off and on) and I have come to realize that not everyone that wants to be a guitar player will become a great one. I still get my fingers in the wrong positions and mute strings and such quite often but I have a heck of a lot of fun doing it.Bifocals are the pits!
Most of my time has been spent doing old Gospel (3chord) Hymns but a little over a year ago I joined "chordie" and started learning how to play songs that I have heard most of my life. They use more and different chords and I have progressed more this past year than any other.
Yes I think you are on the right track. Practice and "chordie".
I'm still not good but I'm 67 and learning.
By the way, the 3 chord Hymns are quite easy now.

Yes Em!
I don't have a pedal to try but it does have 4 inputs. I am running a guitar and a mike and it works great.
Have a gooden.

Doug,
I love it! I was surprised to find it did not have a 1/4" output to go to the amp but a cable to adapt it was available at same store.
I now have a project in mind to mount the mixer to the back or side of the amp and wind up with a single piece traveling unit.

I am afraid I hijacked Zguitars other thread when I asked the question about my amp.
My question was basically how can I make my small amp accept more than 1 input. With replies from a few of you I was headed to the nearest pawn shop. Nothing at my first stop and nothing cheap at the second. However the guy at the second pawn shop told me about this at Radio Shack. For now it does all I wanted and if I ever want effects I would think I could add something later. Right now I am not concerned about effects.
By the way! I tried the"Y" cable and the power loss was too much. Really wasn't getting enough volume  for guitar or mike. Definitely not the case with this little dumpling.
