DE, I take it you are into civil war history. I grew up playing in and around the Gettysburg battlefield. Spent many hours contemplating and debating the merits of both sides. The loss of lives is unimaginable. Every holiday I take time to pay my respects to those who gave their life for these United States.

Way to go Fire art! Sounds like your having fun and thats what it's all about. I envy those who can perform in front of people, I've played in front of others, just never been comfortable around crowds.

Been really hot here on the mountain, the back injury is keeping me inside the house. It's hard staying inside, I miss doing yard work and walks in the woods.

Welcome VanDay. I don't know how it works but I'm glad it does. I'm a total goober when it comes to computers and most times have to get my grandchildren to help me figure it out. Heck, I still use a typewriter. Hope ya stick around and have some fun with us.

Been off work for a week and passing the time learning and practicing scales. Trying to keep a positive outlook while the doctors figure out what to do. Hoping upcoming MRI next week may give us answers and plan of action. Maybe it's time to retire, don't really want to but may have to. Want to welcome all new members and say thank you to my Chordie family for helping me get through a tough time.

That happens to me too once in a while, when somehow I let it all hang out there. It's a great feeling when it all comes together. At my age naps are mandatory.

Happy NGD! One can never have to many stringed instruments. A Gibson Les Paul is my dream guitar.

Re: thirsty (2 replies, posted in Acoustic)
Good morning Fire art. There are several types of humidifiers made for guitars. Check them out, they do work. I can usually get by with just setting out a pan of water in my music room and letting it evaporate naturally. I usually like to keep my guitars on stands because I just like to grab whatever one I feel like playing when the mood strikes me. Some folks advise keeping guitars in their case with humidifiers in the sound holes. My yamaha 12er is usually the first one to tell me it needs a drink.

Hi and welcome Gusspoon - Gus - Collin. Your in the right place for great advice from lots of good people. I don't think to much about brand names, if a guitar sounds good and plays good it is good. I just turned 63 years young yesterday and like you I came back to the guitar after many years of trying to make a living. Your fingers will stop hurting once you develop callouses and build up muscle memory and hand/finger strength.

Glad your back. I hope your wife is getting better. Check your local guitar/music stores and pawn shops, you will find one that speaks to ya. Try not to get hung up on "brand" names.

I use a piece of coarse sandpaper on slick picks, just enough to scuff up the glossy surface.

Re: Pick down (9 replies, posted in Acoustic)
I just leave em in the soundhole, after a while there are enough picks inside so that if ya need one, just turn it over and at least two picks are sure to fall out.

Re: Restrung (12 replies, posted in Electric)
The problem with Elixer polywebs is ya have to wait so long to experience the joy of restringing. All kidding aside, I do enjoy string changing. It gives me a chance to clean my guitars and check for any issues that may need to be dealt with.
