Well ZURF you have a point there. Despite my physical condition, I had a wild, weird, crazy life.
I can tell you I lived for 2.
Thanks God I'm blessed with a great memory and this helped me a lot while on med school.
I was able to "assimilate" 100 pages/hour. It was all too easy, learning, but I had such a great life, sometimes a really S&D&R'nR. Women, I assure you that sitting around a camp fire, which I really hope to do one day with you, Russell and some others here.
Live would change a lot if my fight against 1 insurance company is over. Starting from there, my situation will NEVER change, in the contrary. It will only provide me money, and because I live day by day, I should be able to travel a lot, I CAN'T TRAVEL ALONE!!! But I have a strong character, helping me to survive a lot and to enjoy my life. I have so much great memories, (This HELPS A LOT), I am a dreamer, I write a lot, there is a manuscript in my PC, 104 pages size A4 = 200 pages titled: THE EXPRESSION ofd the IMPRESSION of a DEPRESSION. Unfortunately I am not allowed to earn 50 cent, I am busy to find a solution. It is my experience, in 1997, I had a huge depression, so it is a book NOT WRITTEN by a famous shrink, nor written by someone who had the same problem. I describe, without using a lot of medical words, myself in combination with my experience in practise, every single detail.
Maybe I can give my daughter all the rights, I don't know. I only want to tell that a few things keep me in a better shape: Spending some time on PC, and resting. Dreaming and thinking about all the great things that happened in my life, trying to be strong mentally.
Alkl I wrote did happen, and it's only 10% of my life.

I saw a contest some weeks ago on TV.
It is hilarious, but I have to admit that some of these kids do play quit well AIR GUITAR, finger positions, strumming... Are there contestants who play guitar in real life or not?
The winner gets a real quit expensive guitar.
Is this a USA linked phenomenon?
We don't have to look too far, JOE COCKER, when he sings he plats a lot of air guitar: see the WOODSTOCK performance.
He should be considered as the "godfather" of the "air guitar".
I adore to see JOE COCKER performing, in "spastic" way.
In the seventies we all pretended to play and to move like the two frontmen of status quo.
ROSSI & PARFITT, playing side to side well timed, making the same moves while playing
DOWN DOWN, ROLL OVER LAY DOWN.
GENERALLY IT IS A STRANGE PHENOMENON.

Isn't his name DWEEZIL ZAPPA? ? His brother is AHMET ZAPPA.
He seems to be a very successful session musician and I read that he plays really great..
- ARLO GUTHRIE: the son of WOODY GUTHRIE: better or not? I think Woody was more talented.
- TIM BUCKLEY + son JEFF BUCKLEY.
- BOB MARLEY + son ZIGGY MARLEY
- LOUDEN WAINWRIGHT + son RUFUS WAINWRIGHT
WHICH son is better than the father? I believe that it is a lot more difficult to start with a famous father or mother, I am I correct that they try a carreer, but always in the shadow?

Personally, I like this thread.
WHAT ABOUT ROCK & ROLL KIDS?
Do they have a fair chance when they start playing alone or in a band?
IT HAS TO BE VERY DIFFICULT WHEN YOUR FATHER IS JOHN LENNON, BOB DYLAN, ....
ARE THESE KIDS REALLY LIVING IN THE SHADOW OF THEIR FATHERS? OR NOT?
There are some good examples, but also tragic examples.
- JULIAN LENNON: a very talented young man, but 100% in his father's shadow.
- SEAN LENNON: he played a lot on some of YOKO ONO's records.
- WILSON PHILLIPS: The daughter of Brian Wilson (Beach boys)with the daughter of the Mama's & the Papa's
- JASON BONHAM son of Led Zeppelin's drummer JOHN "BONZO" BONHAM, is a well respected drummer, with Page and Plant, he is UFO's drummer too.
- JAKOB DYLAN, singer/songwriter and frontman of THE WALLFLOWERS.
- CHRISTOPHER STILLS
- RINGO STARR, and his son ZAKK STARKEY: he seems to have found his way pretty well.
Isn't he playing with the WHO & OASIS?
THERE MUST BE MORE SIBLINGS OF GREAT STARS, do you know other ROCK KIDS? Successful or not?

Topic: BAGPIPES AND KILTS? (16 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
I believe as written in my other thread that the big Scottish bagpipe is far the most popular.
Why are Scottish clans are wearing kilts? I have a friend who is married with a Scottish girl, and on his wedding picture taken in Scotland he wears a kilt.
He told me that all Scottish people belong to a clan each clan having a TYPICAL and DIFFERENT kilt made of woolen cloth in a tartan pattern.
Who can tell me more about the clans? Do bagpipes have a same tartan pattern?
I just found somewhere that Irish, Welsh and people from Cornwall have a kilt too, but for me the only people wearing a kilt on a regular base are Scottish.
Is this correct?

Topic: BAGPIPES (17 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
I don't believe there is a thread about bagpipes.
We all know the song AMAZING GRACE played using bagpipes
The most common used bagpipes are the SCOTTISH and IRISH bagpipes, although they were a lot used in old European countries, like Flanders (now a part of Belgium), Breton in France....
Because of the "British" Commonwealth countries, they are used as well in Canada, Australia, Hong Kong, India, and USA (forgot a lot of countries.
What I found is that the ancient Romans, Greeks mention similar instruments.
Is this instrument difficult to play? And in times of war?
I can imagine that, considering the many battles in Scotland versus England that when you hear a few 100 bagpipes and drums, it must have been pretty scary.
WHAT KIND OF BAGPIPES ARE THERE, like the difference models in Scotland and Ireland?
How do they work? How do you play them? Isn't there a pipe used to blow air in the bag which is similar to a flute of clarinet, and where is the air leaving the bagpipe? THE DRONES? Bass & Tenor? WHAT KIND OF DEVICE ALLOWS YOU TO PLAY A MELODY?

Topic: What about other "superseller-bands"? HOW MANY LISTS SHOULD THERE BE (0 replies, posted in Bands and artists)
THIS IS MAYBE SIMILAR THAN MY OTHER THREAD BUT IT IS DIFFERENT.
I have so many questions, even doubts about the accuracy, and last but not least DON'T FORGET TO COMPARE THE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE IN THE USA in the 50ties versus the amount of habitants in the 90ties. If you compare the number of sold records in 1955 versus 1999 the difference would be huge. WHO CAN GIVE ME A BETTER IDEA ABOUT SOLD RECORDS IN DIFFERENT ERA'S?
I think that Elvis after he left the building sold probably more records than any other artist.
So you see, how many lists there are.
Every music respecting magazine like "Rolling Stone" and "Q" have their lists.
It's an easy difficult thread, wide open for comments and interpretations.
What about the "internet phenomenon"? There are some bands who got famous thanks to internet.
SINGLES? Sir ELTON JOHN sold approximately 40.000.000 copies of "candle in the wind" after Lady Diana's death. BING CROSBY: how many white Christmases are sold? 30.000.000, 40.000.000? I only can tell you that these 2 sold 20.000.000 copies more than Bill Haley's Rock Around the clock (REMARKABLE FACT:first recorded by Italian-American band Sonny Dae and His Knights source wikipedia, with the possibility to listen to that song).
What about the Beatles, Stones, and many other bands?
It is strange that the EAGLES sold so many records, more specific GREATEST HITS II. What about DARK SIDE OF THE MOON?
The discussions are open, let the games begin!!

Topic: BEST SELLING BANDS UK versus USA (5 replies, posted in Bands and artists)
This is what I found, BUT DO YOU AGREE OR NOT THAT'S THE QUESTION (Source = 50% Shakespeare).
UK All-Time Best Selling Albums
1. Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band - The Beatles (1967)
2. (What's The Story) Morning Glory - Oasis (1995)
3. Brothers In Arms - Dire Straits (1985)
4. Bad - Michael Jackson (1987)
5. The Immaculate Collection - Madonna (1990)
US All-Time Best Selling Albums
1. Eagles: Their Greatest Hits, 1971–1975 - Eagles
2. Thriller - Michael Jackson
3. Led Zeppelin IV - Led Zeppelin
4. The Wall - Pink Floyd
5. Back in Black - AC/DC
Yep, the good old AC/DC sold sold more than 200 million albums worldwide, including about 69 million albums in the United States AND "BACK IN BLACK" alone 42 million units worldwide AND 22 million in the United States only. I was really surprised. The "seniors" here do they remember the "almost a war" after BON SCOTT died? I remember very well the discussions AND disputes about their new singer BRIAN JOHNSON. It took a while before he was accepted by the fans, even after BACK in BLACK.
Are there still discussions about which of them is the best? Probably not.
Probably that list isn't satisfying a lot of chordians, so come on what do you think? Where are the Stones, Presley, DARK SIDE OF THE MOON?

Re: String Gauge (3 replies, posted in Electric)
Yes it will, but not too much. Some people use heavy strings and a hard pick.
I use ELIXIR too, 0.90 gauge, allowing me to play better my style.
I have a pretty nice collection, I changed my strings on every acoustic guitar, by elixir.
My style is: (try to flat picking) playing chords and my skill here is that I can switch very fast from one chord to another, and blocking strings, + licks and riffs.
I can't play real solo guitar.
I have 2 devices: KORG PANDORA PX4D and his successor the PX5D, having 200 effects on it + rhytme section, drum + bass. I plug my guitar in input and headphones in output allowing me to play a lot better. I wanted to sell the PX4D, but there is a difference between them, so I don't sell it.
With this you can play any style and see what gauge is best for you too.
But I go for 0.9, a lot more flexible and easier to play.

Re: About repairing guitars (5 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
What I found, somewhere on the internet (I forgot the site), they say 2 different things:
1) If you have a normal acoustic guitar (price range = 1000 - 1500$) they can repair it.
2) If you have an extremely high priced guitar like the Martin D45V, (8000 - 12000$) they suggest or give the advise to CHANG the SIDE.
In both cases they have to remove the back of your guitar. Back and sides are often made, using Indian Rosewood NOT LAMINATED. If you look on the internet the top brands, like Taylor, Martin, Gibson, they are made with the same wood (not all of them, but a lot).
As written my mother has a special insurance, covering "incidents and accidents at home". She has to pay 200€. She declared the incident on the guy who has her insurance portfolio.
I would rather go for brandnew sides, using the same wood: Indian rosewood.
This is one of my "investment" guitars (has doubled in price on 2 years) and IS A PROFESSIONAL LUTHIER CAPABLE TO CHANGE THE SITES AN GIVING ME BACK
1) The INVESTMENT factor.
2) Having exactly the same sides, as the original? WILL THE SOUND BE THE SAME when the sides are replaced? of course using the same cm and mm.
Thanks already for your help.

Topic: About repairing guitars (5 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
1) If you have a little crack in your guitar, can you repair it on your own?
2) I prefer to go to a luthier when something is wrong about a guitar.
3) I only know that they need to remove the back of the guitar.
This is a little bit selfish but I REALLY AM DESPERATE AND WANTED TO HAVE ADVISE.
THE STORY:
I have a MARTIN D45V. The day after I went to hospital my mother afraid for burglary (they did enter once in my house 5 years ago) she came back to my house, to take 2 very expensive guitars, and 1 is that MARTIN D45V.
The guitar was NOT in a case, because she was with 2 other guitars in a triple guitar stand. She took the guitar and probably while laying the guitar in her car the side of the Martin "touched" the door of her car resulting in a little point of impact with a "fracture line" about 15cm long.
The wood used for a MARTIN D45V is:
TOP: Sitka spruce
BACK: Solid Indian Rosewood
SIDE: Solid Indian Rosewood too.
Considering the market price here in Europe between 10.000$ - 15000$ (incredible for a piece of wood with 6 strings) I searched the web and I read that for such a high priced guitar, more professional luthiers prefer to place a NEW side inn stead of repairing the crack with that little hole.
CAN SOMEBODY GIVE ADVISE HERE, my mother is really sick about what happened and she has an insurance for those things?
REPAIR OR REPLACE? I prefer a replace using of course full Indian Rosewood
THANKS

Topic: ABOUT AN OLD GIBSON (2 replies, posted in Electric)
I have "modified " a Gibson LP Custom original from 1968, with a serial number pointing to the end of 1967. The modification was done in one of the biggest guitar stores, where they changed the humbuckers by a pair of P-94's (= P-90) to fit in the cavity.
REASON: I have a 1978 Gibson LP custom, and I wanted to going back in time when the custom had at first 2 single (most in black) P-90's.
PROBLEM: I have the originals, a PAF Humbucker AND a DIMARZIO early seventies. I was told that many guitar players changed 1 or 2 originals in DIMARZIO'S.
1) Why did they installed DIMARZIO'S?
2) You have to look very good to see DIMARZIO?
3) What about the market value and
4) MOST IMPORTANT Where can you find an original PAF?

Re: bands versus women (5 replies, posted in Bands and artists)
HELLO SOUTH, you have a point.
If you are huge as band, WHY THE HECK are there so many woman standing there in front throwing underwear (see TOM JONES).?
MY PERSONAL THEORY = equivalent to a man, who walks with a woman at his side while everybody is looking to the women, THEY LOVE IT because they too are in the "spotlights."
I have got a few of those women and look now: I AM LIVING HERE ALL ALONE IN MY HOUSE.
My "big mistake" was, not these women but my completely messed up my personal life often using my "I have some patients" UMBRELLA. I was able to avoid disputes, by having a huge amount of patients, and calculating my "tour" so I arrived late by well known patients where my glass of whisky was ready.
I believe that the "groupie phenomenon" isn't a musician's monopoly, and for sure if I go back in time still working.

You have a classic band: existing in 4 -5 people. SINGER (but active player, guitar(s), bass player and drummer.
Who is the most popular guy like boy meets girl.
In fact which member has the most impact on women? I often see that the drummer or bass player gets the most beautiful women.

Songs I like are more acoustic than electric, but I see a lot of artists I never heard about, again US vs EUROPE.
I stick to
- JOHN DENVER
- BOB DYLAN is one of my all time favorite song writers, AND he uses only 3-4 chords so for beginners... great tunes, easy chords and great songs.
- THE BEATLES: Yesterday, Let it be, When I'm 64....
- ROLLING STONES: My sweet lady Jane, Ruby Tuesday, Mother's little kelper
- CAT STEVENS: Lady d'Arbanville, Father and Son, Wild World
AND MANY MORE, see GITAARDOCPHIL'S SONGBOOK.

Indeed I see great answers.
I often use minor chords because you find a lot of melancholy in it, also the 7th chord like A7, B7, E7 and this = BLUES or ROCK.
I don't use often POWER CHORDS, but playing some "heavier stuff" they are useful..

Re: What is the most important part of a song? (13 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Thanks KAP54 for writing GOOD TOPIC. I do a lot of research and thinking and what you wrote is 100% correct, I didn't think about it. Also the habit of using different "track-lists" is strange.
On an European album you will find often that the first track is the 5th track on a US album and the 7th track on the Japanese version.
ABOUT INTRO'S = WHO CAN FORGET SOME MEMORABLE INTROS like
- SMOKE ON THE WATER by DEEP PURPLE (If they wouldn't have THAT intro I believe the song looses at least 50% of the value)
- SMELLS LIKE TEEN SPIRIT by NIRWANA
- SWEET HOME ALABAMA and here I want to give some comment: it is a quit difficult intro and I have some live tracks of that song, well they NEVER play the song as they play on the album.
When I play (or at least try to) that intro, I notice that I play it similar but easier (my way).
SO AGAIN IF THE INTRO SUCKS THE SONG SUCKS = maybe a too hard judgment but probably true.

Re: To Korg or not to Korg? (7 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
Well dear friend HEADCASE, I HAVE one.
YES the PX5D, I have the PX4D too and wanted to sell it, but it is worth every cent.
Some people say they prefer the KORG PANDORA PX4D to PLAY LIVE, because you can use it on your belt and it should be easier in use than the PX5D.
Watching all my stuff like an old (but still existing) ZOOM 8080, a BOSS VF-1, a LINE6 POD XT LIVE, and last but not least one of my amps the "FENDER CYBERTWIN 2X65W", I prefer my PX5D above all the other gear. It is amazing what sounds and combinations you can "squeeze" out using the PX5D.
Yes, I am lost. You can use it with a guitar "input jack" and connect it with an "output jack" straight to your amp. Or if you don't want to disturb the neighbours or your wife, plug a headset in. When I use it, I am busy to find the correct rhythm pattern and I swear using this device for a month = you play 2X better than a month ago.

Topic: What is the most important part of a song? (13 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
My guess = THE INTRO.
WHY? Because you get an immediate impact on the audience.
I believe that the first 30 seconds of a song are the most important.
PURPOSE = CATCH THE ATTENTION OF THE AUDIENCE and be ORIGINAL, STRONG, UNIQUE and UNFORGETTABLE.
Do you agree whit my hypothesis = if you don't catch and touch your audience in those famous 30 seconds your song might be very good but becomes less important because you didn't catch the audience.

Topic: hollow bodies versus hollow bodies & semi hollow bodies (7 replies, posted in Electric)
A few questions:
1) What should be the % of guitarists playing hollow bodies/semi hollow bodies?
2) For what style are they made: jazz blues & rock probably but ARE THEY CAPABLE OF MASTERING HEAVY METAL?
3) What is so special about these guitars versus the solid bodies?
4) There are a lot of different brands, and since I have only ONE hollowbody, an old EPIPHONE SHERATON I really don't know much about hollow bodies.
So some brands:
- Gibson ES-335
- Epiphone Sheraton
- Ibanez like ARTCORE CUSTOM AND the signature series like GEORGE BENSON, PAT METHENY, these guitars I found while searching.
- Gretsch, I also know the Brian Setzer & Chet Atkins model with the White FALCON model.
So I am a "virgin" when talking about these kind of guitars.
Is it worth to compare a GIBSON 335 with IBANEZ George Benson or EPIPHONE and GRETSCH white falcon?
Please who plays hollow or semi-hollow bodies and a solid body? I guess that plugging a hollow body in your amp gives a lot of "sound problems" OR are there amps typical for hollows?
