The sign: Can be had on eBay for less than twenty dollars. They come in various colors, but the cord is only 4 feet in length, so count on having to use an extension cord.

I found  an acoustic amp: 20 watts at a yard sale for $45.00. It works and looks brand new. The kid lost interest in playing guitar.

We're still struggling with the major change in our family and will be attending a support group  in mid-August, so we're still hurting.

Thanks

Bill

"The Mississippi Delta.... is shining like a National guitar....."

Your post to Mr.Badeye made me think of the Paul Simon album, "Graceland", TF. A little allegorical "prank" being played on us by Mr. Simon, I think. smile

Just "sticking my head in" for a moment to tell y'all we love you, and even though my posting has slowed down, I try to keep up with you as much as I can. Dondra, as you might expect, is still grieving for our son, but sends her love and thanks for your support.

My own computer is messed up, so I am typing on hers which has smaller letters. We both wanted to say thanks for all the expressions of love, caring and condolences. Jason was our only child so you can imagine. We're both pretty torn up. Hope to see y'all again soon, but right now, Dondra is  (as she always is) Priority One.

We both send our love.

......with some sights on my computer. This is the first site I have been able to get on. The others give me the blue screen which one sees when one wants to use the Windows Media Center. I don't believe it's a virus because if it were, I wouldn't be able to get on at all.

Does anyone have an idea what this might be? I have tried plugging and unplugging shutting all the way down, trying to disable media player, Restore..... everything except reinstalling WIndows 7.

Thanks

Can we combine the two posts, please? My comments on the song are on YT and here, but I see there's also on "SoundCloud" and SC isn't allowing me to log in.

'Thanks

Don't mind paying for the return. Just don't want to pay for it twice. Way I see it, it cost me half what the pick-up is worth in order to find out it doesn't fit, and they get to re-sell it.

Somebody make him stop grovelling. smile

Jim, what you think you lack in voice you more than make up for with your writing, buddy. Also, since you're so critical of your singing, I have to say you have me beat all over the place, my friend. I have NEVER been able to figure out how I want a song/poem I have written - to go - so at least you make "sketches".

in another topic, I mentioned getting the Markley pickup for Amy''s guitar and the pickup being too wide.

Okay so today I (having obtained an authorization first) packed it up, took it to the USPS and sent it  off. Cost $7.99.

When I called this company's customer service person, I was given to understand that they would now refund my cost MINUS $5.99 to offset their "free" shipping.

"Okay", I thought to myself. "I should have measured first, so this is my fault."

But then I had an epiphany: "What about that $7.99 you just spent on shipping, Bill? Are you gonna have to eat that?"

Yup. I'm gonna have to eat that, and THEY get to keep the $5.99.

Bottom line: I lost $7.00. Right?

Be careful!

More comments left on YT, guys and I wanted to congratulate both of you here for turning out another of your masterpieces. It would hit a little "close to home" for Dondra, but for me it was most appropriate and I did note what, you, Jim wrote in your comments and I thank you for it. You know, it would be a shame if you two never met. I'm hoping that happens at some point, because just think: Y'all are already mates through the music. Just one more step to the "real deal". Perhaps you two are already thinking in that direction?

Righteous. VERY righteous, my friends!

Awesome, Doug! I never knew tuners could do that! As for the headphone amp, I'll see what it sounds like and go from there. I don't know if those little Vox's have any effects, but not waking "She Who Must Be Obeyed" is my primary motivation. Thanks, my friend!

Bill

PS: If I exchange for the Vox's, just think: I can brag about having a couple of Vox "amplifiers"! smile

Thanks, BGD, but a capo is one of the few accoutrements I still have. Incidentally, I have returned the pickup for Amy's guitar (Dean Markley), because it was too wide for the soundhole. The model guitar is in my sig line if anyone might have a minute to recommend a better fit.

Thanks as always!

Hahaha ... as soon as I read your post, I immediately thought of "Crimson & Clover". They most certainly would had to run voice through a tremolo / vibrato. The only other way would be to sing while using one of those old waist slimming doo-hickies.

Observant call, Bill.

....... that the guy who wrote it didn't bother to rhyme the word "arms"? Take a look at it on our favorite site for lyrics and music and tell us what you think?

It rhymes everywhere else, so why not there?

Although it is listed as "Traditional", the writer, according to Wikipedia was Jimmie Davis. I guess it turned "Trad" when no one bothered to renew the copyright, or maybe a copyright can only be renewed a finite number of times?

So what do you think happened here? There are a couple of words I thought of, such as "charms" and "alarm"  he could have stuck in there, but no, he just hung his "head and I cried".

please consider this just a "fun" thread, okay, with no correct answer

"Opie"

........ on the opening page of Chordie, y'all? If it's the site ownership, they may wish to look under "Ukulele" and the  first song's title. Now click on it.

I have bad dreams sometimes that I come out from behind the drums to play bass on "Stand By Me", and the lead guitar says "Stand By Me in C".

Huh? Did he just say "in C"? But I'm just a drummer and only know it in A Major!!!"

Besides learning the Pentatonic scale, is there another way to  fool-proofly figure out the key to a song and  then transfer it to the fretboard?

If the Roland has enough clean volume to fill your venue, shouldn't be a problem ... although 40 watts solid state seems a bit light.

I run a headset mic & acoustic guitar through my Traynor Acoustic amp (150 watts solid state), and it works fine in a church or community hall type of setting. One important thing would be to not use any of your amp's built in effects, or all of your instrument sounds would be equally affected. I'll put my Boss pedal-board between the guitar and amp for effects, so that my voice doesn't end up with wah / phase / delay / etc. (although any of that would be an improvement smile ) And you might have to fiddle with your EQ settings, to find a happy compromise that suits your voice, keyboard, and guitar simultaneously.

........ and they give you the chords and chorus to just the first couple of verses and then nothing?

I know they expect me to remember what I played in the first verse and chorus, because (as in "Stand By Me") it's the same thing over and over, but I just can't do that - I really am that forgetful. smile

So what I did many years ago was print the whole song out, leaving plenty of spaces to fit the chord names right on top of the word where they change. All the way down the page.

Do any of you have to do that?

I try to help myself by saying the chord names as I change to them:

"When the G has come, And the Em land is dark.

And the C is the D light we'll G/D."

But  when the verses change, it still leaves me behind. Also, one can't really sing it that way, can one? wink

Bass? No problem! One of the easiest songs on bass I have ever played. And it really gets the crowd up off the chairs, as does the bass run to (Your Love Has Lifted Me) "Higher and Higher", by Jackie Wilson. Take a look, novice bassists.

Any opinions?

Thanks

Thanks, Buddy. I do have the v1, but what I wound up doing was: 1. Use the V1 for Bass (whenever I get my beloved Rogue Beatle Bass again) and then I found  this one on Amazon for a lot cheaper than the V2 (I had hoped to score a used one for about the price of the "Classic Rock") :

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01FH … &psc=1

I also bought that mountable tuner: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01H7 … &psc=1  which I am hoping will pick up the sound off an amp or does the guitar just plug into the tuner?

Don't know what I'd do without you guys. I really don't.

Thanks

I am unable to find these on either eBay/Amazon or for sale privately. If you have one, would you be willing to sell it?

These songs I have (and will) practice over and over. There are only 4, but they are easily played and sung:

(Get Along Home) "Cindy"

"Worried Man Blues"

"Tom Dooley"

And "Good News Week"

Numbers 2 & 3 will stand you in good stead if you're ever asked to "perform" at a party and you can have some fun with the lyrics.

NOTE TO ROGER & DOUG: We got your calls/messages on Saturday, but Dondra can't make it through phone calls yet, and I really don't know what to say at this point. We are sorry, but will work our way out of this. Besides, we've noticed our "real life" friends beginning to keep their distance and that's just fine with us.. Thank you for understanding.

All of us have probably heard the Kingston Trio version:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iKocb-hvvPc

See what's happening? The Trio sing the chorus through 3 times and Woody only twice.

This can really throw you off, so keep it in mind (like I didn't)

Apparently I have forgotten how to reply to individual posts, but there's some very nice stuff here. The young lady has a sweet voice, the bike's hilarious as are the flu, the Mother Teresa quote and Pete, the deaf lady was soooo good! I always thought deaf people sounded "off-key" because the cannot hear themselves? All of this was wonderful and thanks for your time, my friends.

Wow! How do you keep finding these great blues tunes, Mr. badeye??? I'm gonna have to Amazon this one. That album they mention in the comments section of the video needs to be in my cd blues collection. For next Friday, may I request an instrumental?

Thanks!
