Here is a great video of John Lee Hooker.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2BtUQbblCWo&NR=1  Does he play in an open tuning? I don't recognize what chords he's playing. I always thought he played Epiphone Shearatons. This is obviously an Epi, by the headstock, But it only has one cutaway. What guitar is this?

Hi Craig,
http://www.epiphone.com/news.asp?NewsID=256

Have a gander at this(above)............

And Mr. Hooker (haha, that just sounds funny) is playing in standard 440A open tuning( in the key of E) in this video. I checked it with my pitch PIPE...........

Use it if you got it.

If that's your thing, more power to you. ????? I prefer living, breathing musicians myself. Are you sincere here or are you you just presenting an argument for the sake of arguing? Just curious......

Beck is one of the most original, successful, and creative musicians on the planet.  He uses midi sequencers, drum machines, loops, turntables, and samples extensively in his song book.   He also has three Grammy awards.   There are tons of talented people using electronics and new media in wonderful and creative ways.

You've used words like "unworthy, gimmick, lazy, fake, pretender, wanna-be" in reference to them.

Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you Jerome, I've had a day full of lessons(7)and a gig tonight to boot ( a rather crappy one at that, be that just goes with the ebb and flow of playing music for a living). I hear what you're saying but totally disagree with you.

I'll expand...

While  there is some talent invoiled in pushing the button that reads "play" you must admit that if the members in your band wanted a bigger cut of the profit and replaced your bass playing with a "midi sequenced device" or something comprable to said "lame, unworthy, pretnding, gimmick usin', fake, wanna-be- a- sounding-like-a-human bass playin'-device, you'd probably be pretty upset, right?....... You cannot disagree with me here.(ah-hemm) ..........   A friendly word of advice;" careful what you wish for, or promote as wonderful and creative...........you might find yourself watching your band endure great success from afar..........." Jiss some werds fer thawt......

I do like just playing acoustic and layering parts but some songs just need that little bit extra.

NO NO NO!!!! If if you can do it live, do it live. If you can't, don't!....End the posing that is practiced by so many lazy, unworthy working "musicians" today.(i.e. sequencers and drum machines)  Practice, study, and get better, don't use the lame gimmic devices. Hire living, breathing humans who've played and practiced to earn a spot on a stage somewhere. Don't give in to the poser facade that so many "fake, pretender, wanna-be" musicians use today.....

Yeah, you're getting robbed paying $30 a set.

http://www.music123.com/Search/Default. … ch_go.y=12

I get mine for $15- $18 at 3 local music stores.  You can get 'em for less on line but I like helping my local economy if it doesn't cut too far into my overhead.

The elixirs do have an incredible sound and their longevity is unmatched by an other string I've ever used.

Cool David, glad it worked out for you. I've played through mine (2) for the past 5 years or so. It's, thus far, been a very durable, reliable amp. I have mine on 1' stands(home made from stair scrap wood and door hinges) angled around 30 degrees upward. This really helps the projection span.
Continued sucess to you and your little Marshall buddy!!

Great replies! I really appreciate the responses, so thank you. Already, you're making me think differently about a few things.

It's refreshing to see that even seasoned performers like SouthPaw feel the jitters before a show. Southpaw, I saw a video of one of your performance in the forums recently, and I have to say that I would never have imagined that you were nervous. You played and sang amazingly... I'd love to see you live.

Thank you very much for your kind words mrjay. I'd love to see to play live as well. If you're gonna be in the west coast Florida(USA) vicinity anytime in the near future please let me know.

I scooped out the mids, cranked the bass, and torked the treble to 7 ish, Jim, added in your sugestion and it's a pretty solid tone...I cranked it up pretty good and I got the "there are other people in the house!" from my lovely wife...guess she doesn't appreciate my new signature sound.

Bose headphones= problem solved

mrjay,
I've been playing music professionally(very low level) for goin' on 26 years. I get the pre-gig jitters before each and every gig. Got 'em right now as a matter of fact! I feel as though it's a normal human emotion for those who care about the quality of their work. Embrace your nervousness and let it fuel your performance. I'm off to play some tunes....

So I'm playing Bring Me to Life, and I can't quite get the tone right.  Playing my Epi LP, pickup switch in center position, thru a Boss Metal Zone II.  Playing thru a Hughes & Kettner, clean channel...I'm getting my gain from the box...all my settings are pretty much 5....
Anyway, it sounds good, but not quite like the CD...their sound is heavy, big sustain, but I don't hear it as real heavy gain where the tone gets muddy & indistinct...but it's a real heavy tone....
Anyway--any idea's other than getting a marshall half stack or switching out my pick-up's?
Thanx!

“ I use Ibanez guitars. In the studio, I kind of use a similar setup to what I used on the last Cold record I did, which is mix up the amps and combine the sound together. It’s a Diezel and a Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier and mixed that for one side. Then I took a Bogner and a Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier on the other side. I combined it and made one big wall of metal!
Right now on tour I’m using T.C. Electronics, the G-System.

I have been playing guitar for only a couple months now.  I am in my mid 40s.  I took guitar lessons when I was a kid but since I'm coming to the end of my mid-life crisis, this is the last thing I wanted to do before I hit the big 5-0.   I own an acoustic Yamaha & now I'm looking at an electric Fender Stratocaster for $129.   Is that a good deal or what?   Any comments?

Thanks.

For the amount of $$ you're quoting, my quess is you're looking at a Squire (by Fender) Strat.  If so, your getting a good deal; see link
http://www.music123.com/Squier-by-Fende … 9.Music123

If you're looking at a Mexican or USA Strat, you're getting an amazing deal.

Either way, best of luck in your quest.

The #1 way to promote your product is to play it live! Get a stack of your CD's, put 'em in your guitar case, place it  in front of you( or in a clearly visible location) and charge a fair, yet profitable price for your product. There are many other means to promote music(youtube, radio station begging, myspace, etc...) but there's no better way to prove the legitimacy of ones' music than performing it live. Take your CD to club owners and ask 'em for a chance. Also, you might could work something out with Per( Chordie owner) to advertise right here as well.

Oh yeah ozymandias! Samuel Adams is some dang good beer. I have yet to sample one that I did not immensely enjoy. I used to, in my younger days, chug down Hamms, Black Label, Schaefer, Milwaukees Best(the beast) and generic Kroger(supermarket) beer. It(Kroger beer) came in a yellow can with "BEER"
written in black letters. Oh the good ole days!!!.........I get a hangover headache just thinkin' about 'em. Hope all's well with you and the family.

Lieven(gitaardocphil),

Very insightful commentary to buvvys' "Gaza" poem. Your words made me re-read the poem and I now have a deeper understanding of the poem.(I think?!) Keep the comments coming, I'm pretty sure the writer of this poem and others as well will benefit from your unique interpretation  and discussions of life.

I'm no expert in foreign affairs but from what  I can gather the conflict in Gaza stems from organized religion, and opposing interpretations thereof.

Oh yeah, and congratulations on your moderator status in this section. Your words always make me look deeper into my original impression of a topic.

Without being rude, I would be interested in how you have managed to achieve that? I assume via a Pick, but running through my head just wondering how it would happen. Do you have a over exuberant strum?

Prevention maybe better than cure.

Alternatively you could get some of that rubber edging which you could apply just over the top.

You ever seen Willie Nelsons' guitar? Believe me no matter how well a guitar plays, there's always gonna be signs of wear , unless one is delegating their playing time to 20 ,30, 40 or more guitars......

Jeff,
My comments aren't directed at you specifically. They're directed at society as a whole and what the music industry has devolved to.

This(sam Ashs' comments) is the sad truth of the youth of today and how influencial video games have become. Plopping down in front of a television with game boy/attari/ player stations, whatever they call the brain mushing devices these days, has taken the place of kids actually getting together with other kids and having a good rough game of backyard tackle football followed by breakin' out the new Van Halen( insert any band here) album and continuing the tomfoolery. Anyone remember when musicians and music, not video games, inspired others to want to learn how to play????.....Hey to each their own, but no child of mine under my roof will ever waste their learning potential on a fake instrument.

I ain't afraid to say it, Guitar poser Hero stinks!!!!!!
