Jim. that is brilliant how you composed your tronic or elec song using all the words for October's chordies song of the month.

Here is a water song I like by Kiwi songwriter Brooke Fraser. it's too hard for me to cover. Check out the drummer in this video a very original and subtle style of playing. Maybe someone will cover this song Something In The Water.

Piri I think the track sounds real good as it is as it has a nice stripped back feeling to it.

Nice one Richard.

Well, I struggled with the word ELECTRONIC for this month's FSOTM, so I wrote this instead.

ELECTRONIC Poem

I been thinking about songs
Using the word ~electronic~
It had me bamboozled
Something chronic.
I tried to make it harmonic
Something iconic
But nothing came to me
My ideas very embryonic.
So, I sat down and visualised it
It had to be symphonic
Pictured it all lit up
All ~electronic~
Then the word faded
As I sipped my gin and tonic
Oh well, I will go watch my Panasonic.

Wow Jan your poem is pure genius.

Good one Piri, I’m a burble purple verbal turtle after a few drinks. Here is a link to that good old Sheb Wooley song "The Purple People Eater.

Jim.
Those are good words from you. I often wonder what the meaning is behind or what is the Blue Moon of Kentucky ? Donovan used colours in a couple of his songs. Mellow Yellow and that other song Colours. I like that expression leading a colourful life. Growing up people here use to say it's good to eat plenty of greens meaning vegetables. With Supermarkets taking over the old Green grocer shops are now few and far between the same as Butcher shops. Back to music and colours Fleetwood Mac "The Green Manalishi (With the Two Prong Crown)" Of course don't forget Bluegrass Music. What is Bluegrass I guess it's not the stuff people smoke LOL? I suppose the grass is bluer on the other side.

Excellent lyrics Jim and so true the future so quickly has become the past. There is so many stories that can be conjured up with that line in your song, "I see your smile, but your sadness shows."

Thats a good set of retail songs there Grah with a nice bit of humour.

Cheers Jan thank you for taking the time to read my poem and make a comment. My sister over in Canada has her eightieth birthday this Sunday. She sent me a photo over email just before showing a picture with some purple lavender roses given to her by her neighbour for her birthday this weekend. It got me thinking back in the old days to see that someone would have had to paint a picture of her and the roses taking ages then ship it to me. Now we can take a picture and send it around the world in an instant. I read a lot of history books and the picture sent my mind of on a tangent just now thinking about the colour purple today. Purple was the colour of royalty to the ancient Romans it came from a lengthy process involving snails making it expensive. The source of the dye was the mucus produced by predatory sea snails found in the Mediterranean Sea. Purple dye cost about half a Roman soldier’s annual salary, or some say the equivalent of the cost of a diamond engagement ring today.

Purple the colour of ancient Roman royalty.

Purple from an empire that’s gone.

Purple roses and my sister in a picture sent across the world.

Purple I can see in an instant

Purple Rain, Prince

Purple Haze, Jimmy Hendrix

Purple the word in a email on paper or heard in a song.

Purple from back in time and far away in a picture.

Purple roses with a scent that can’t be sent.

Thank you, Brian, Piri and Jim I love your feedback on my nostalgic words.

When I look around there is a world today that is full of sad vain shallow people grasping at the wind trying to show their real value. In my opinion. In the fifties and sixties in the free world most of us who were around then can reflect on a simpler but more satisfying way of life. This is what I was trying to capture in the poem. As expectations rise the happiness level drops the more you get the less you have got mentality. I won't take away from some people that they are experiencing tough times today but when I look at the people older than me who went through the worldwide depression and war they never gave up. My generation was the benefactor of that determination as our elders had to carry on and not give up.  I guess its human nature to have a sentimental longing or wistful affection for a period in the past: Even as time progresses that will stay the same I guess and we all remember the good bits even though in that time the world wasn’t perfect and not everyone had a good time.

Grah you cover Joe's ( Mojo) excellent well written song well. The camera work and recording make me feel like I'm in the audience there enjoying your performance while watching the people outside the window walking past the Bank on the other side of the road.

Here is a looking back in time poem I wrote.

If Only I Could

If only I could take a photo of the smell of leather.

In a leather jacket shop.

If only I could take a photo of the sound of clicking typewriters.

Old women sitting in rows in a typing pool quietly sitting up straight.

All like children in a strict school room not allowed to speak.

If only I could take a photo of my father's mother’s laughter.

If  only I could take you back to my mother’s , mother's old village.

A place where poor people could teach you how to be rich.

If only I could take a photo of the aroma  of communal food.

If only I could take a photo of the sound of laughter and joy from when I was a boy.

I’m sure you would understand simple joy.

Brian and Piri that is brilliant.

Funny bird talk of the avian kind.

Great banter guys thank you.

I like my birds without feathers.

Well cooked upon my plate.

Not some dodgy poultry.

Cooked by a chef committing adultery.

On a big breasted chicken.

Laid upon my plate.

Here is a poem I wrote about celebrity.
Reality Star

Reality TV stars you might as well be from Mars.

Flash cars, red carpets and stars.

Glossy looking covers with nothing  in between.

Celebrity celebrity its all very vain.

Celebrity celebrity its all very vain.

Mindless stuff that drives me insane.

She’s  an influencer on the internet.

Her father was a supermarket tabloid prophet.

Good friends regulars at the plastic surgeon’s office.

Mumma behind the camera making sure all looks nice in artificial paradise.

No one sees when he drinks he’s not very nice.

Celebrity celebrity its all very vain.

Celebrity celebrity its all very vain.

Mindless stuff that drives me insane.

Tell all books about nothing but looks.

Spending money on drugs supplied by crooks.

Time in rehab is part of the ride.

Don’t worry says the accountant.

Many celebrities make more money when they die.

Press cameras love the downward slide.

Celebrity celebrity its all very vain.

Celebrity celebrity its all very vain.

Mindless stuff that drives me insane.

Piri, from that opening line “One day you fall into the trap the way that I did” your song took me on a journey that opens up lots of questions. I guess when he talks about you, he is talking about the you being him? That is what I like in a song that tells a story which keeps you guessing. The other person won't take her back like the person telling story did in the song. I guess he is talking in the past tense. A self-centered lady all for herself taking a person for a ride and yet there is a besotted man who wanted to have another go. A man caught in a trap clever song. Sounds like she is an alluring woman who is really poison in my head who has trapped many a man possibly?   Excellent lyrics through the whole song. The chorus works really good.

It's the trap laid before.

When you walk through any door.

And you fall into the mire up to your neck.

Thank you, Roger, that is real good having a birthdate for chordie.  Also thank you to Per.  Twenty on October 25th a good age to reach as at that time of chordie  registration  I should imagine the world wide web would still have been young a new frontier for many at that time in history.     At that time 2002 a computer was something I only used at work I never thought at that time of using one at home.

EB nice blues country guitar and vocal on that one. A double bass player and a drummer using brushes and you would make it the full package on that song.

Richard that is genius how you found that site thank you. I think it will be safe to infer that December 8th, 2002, is the date chordie kicked into action or had people responding to it online and use that as its birthdate.

Thank you, Jan and Phill, for giving my rough recording a listen and comment. Here I am recording a song with a young talented guitar player who has no aspirations to be a professional musician doing an anti phone song recorded on a phone. Never thought I would use the word moderation when it comes to phones it reminds me of my mother saying to me drink alcohol in moderation  when I was young. Since my friends daughter has ended up in hospital due to her smartphone use I have become very aware of smartphone addiction in all age groups.

Good one Doug, I guess the founder of chordie would have had to do plenty of researched to make sure everything was legit before launching. On my short time here I have loved the names people have given themselves. Love to hear from some of the old time chordie characters if their still out there. One of the many characters that have encouraged me a lot in my short time here is Bill Craig. It has been a while since Bill has posted if your still out there Bill pop in and say hi.

Jandle, good choice of song. You do it good.
Grah, hope you get over Covid soon.  Good cover only thing lacking was a harmonica solo. Your guitar and voice and guitar worked good in the true Blues tradition.

Also added this one from Crowded House - https://youtu.be/Dv9RVOJ-YQY  unfortunately was trying out a new mic, which gave a phaser style sound to the clip, which doesn't sound too good.

Has the word road in it.

Cheers

Richard

A good Kay One W One  (Kiwi) and Ozzy song Richard I like your version.

Thank you, guys, for your info so far.  So our man from Bonnie Scotland upyerkilt (Ken) 'Unofficial king of Scotland' at the moment is on record as been the first known  to post on chordie. So if your out there I salute you upyerkilt and if you do read this please pop back and say hi. I see jets 60 joined in March of 2006 a little bit after  upyerkilt. If you have some memories of the first people to inhabit habit chordie that would be interesting. Looks like Phill and Roger came to chordie in its early days so both can claim to be here for a good part of its history. I’m thinking that it could probably be that chordie could date back maybe to somewhere in the first years of this century. BTW I came to chordie as a result of easybeat who joined chordie  in 2010 encouraging me  to check it out in 2015. At that time there was a bigger number of people posting from diverse backgrounds. Maybe the founder or founders can give us the start date??
