Ah, yes the Dm A thing... you're totally correct, I wrote this this afternoon with a monumental hangover and obviously the keyboard kept moving in order to confuse me.  The first verse was to be the template for the rest, I'll try again

Thanks

Thanks, SouthPaw

I wasn't sure whether to post it or not as God is such an emotive subject and I'm not important enough to have an opinion on something so huge!  I guess that's why we have songs though lol.

If I've offended anyone with this then please accept my apologies - it kind of misses the point of the song though!

Hi David

My brother was in a band way back when... Arthur and his Floating Spoons.  My son has a friend in a local band... Buried by Grace which I quite like (the name, not the band lol).  Mine would be called... The Post It Notes!

Hi Acchordians!

I'm Bone Daddy (I know, but who can resist The Nightmare Before Christmas!) Age just on the right side of 40 depending on your point of view.  I live in the Ass end of England, also known as Grimsby, recently voted 6th worst place to live in this country which is about right!

When I'm not playing my Peavey Predator EXP Plus or the Accoustic Ovation Copy I bought for my wife's birthday tongue I drive buses around the countryside and I'm also a volunteer Police Constable which I would recommend to anyone!

Discovered Chordie while looking for songs to play when I first got the guitar 18 months ago and it's the only entry on the favourites list!

Keep posting, keep rocking and enjoy life!

Speaking (typing) as someone who has been 13 and as the father of 2 children (1 girl/1 boy) I can't say much that hasn't already been said... having said that however I would advise you to;

1.  Dress for comfort rather than just the effect
2.  Listen to the music that pleases you, not just the music dictated by your uniform
3.  Do as you would be done by - this last is probably the most important.  If you happen to get into a debate, remember it's probably not life and death, it's an opinion and if you point this out to your debating opponent leavened with a little humour, you may find yourself fitting in a little easier

I always wore plain blue jeans and a selection of t shirts.  Back in my day we had mods, rockers, skins, new romantics, rude boys/girls, punks, new wavers, heavies etc.  I like music from all of the above and more so why paint yourself into a corner by affiliating yourself exclusively?

Mostly though, have fun and play guitar at every available opportunity.  I wish I had started earlier!

Good luck

Songs that I can't help listening to no matter how many times i've heard them, even if i think i'm sick of them are:

Hotel California
Good Vibrations
Ziggy Stardust (Bauhaus or Bowie)
Hallelujah (Jeff Buckley)
Comfortably Numb (Pink Floyd and I wish someone would shoot the Scissor Sisters for what they did)
Loads more but no time!
Oh, guilty pleasure.... Ice Ice Baby (Vanilla Ice)  Another topic perhaps?

In my humble opinion, the best thing you can do is come on this site!  Practise as much as you can, if you make your fingers hurt, so much the better.

Play songs you like, that will keep your interest going and I've found that the best thing is to sing at the same time, learn the words and music from the start and the timing comes more naturally that way.

I've had my guitar for about 18 months and I play well enough to please myself at this stage - my 14 year old son got his guitar on the same (Christmas) day as me and he laughs at my attempts and quite rightly so.  I play stuff like house of the rising sun, brown eyed girl etc while he shreds Arctic Monkeys and Atreyu at me.  WE ALL HAVE OUR OWN PACE!  It doesn't worry me none as my chord changes are better than his!  So practise what you like as much as you can and

Enjoy!

Hi to both of you, have a good time

I saw Green Day at Milton Keynes a while back now and I've listened to the American Idiot album at least once a week since then. I'm 39, does this make me weird?  I haven't had that much interest in any album since I discovered Pink Floyds' Wall in '79

Man, what happened to you sucks!  Two positives though - you have been set free to follow your own course and determine your own worth and second, you lost your job which will give you more time to practice your guitar!

As the man (and woman) said "don't give up"

To be sure, old doll if I took either my wife or my instrument my welcome would be so brief as to make an English summer seem like a lifetime!

I think one of the best bands never to make it huge are Del Amitri.  They churn out great song after great song, ballads are beautifully done, rock songs are punchy with great hooks and riffs yet they get very little recognition outside of their fan base.  Very upsetting

I'm embarrassingly bad and will remain so for quite some time!  I would hate to be famous for that though!  I am now at the stage where I'm happy to play on my own with earplugs in lmao

You know, old doll the more I read your lyrics (surely your posts deserve to be set to music) the more I feel like upping stakes and skimming across the water to the Isle of my forefathers - apparently from Cork!  I'll be sure to ask your advice before getting committed though!

I don't think all our prices are down to tax though.  We are apparently one of the richest and most developed countries in the world (probably because we stole a great deal of wealth from everywhere we occupied) therefore people charge what they think the economy can support.  It would probably explain the hideous amount of debt the average person accrues these days.

In response to selso:  I believe it is just the British Isles that suffers from inflated price policies, or at the very least we are the most over-inflated.  The rest of Europe seems relatively cheap.

Ah the good old '80s.  Thatcher government, civil unrest about the miners' strike and the unions losing their power, the poll tax riots and the Argentinians not just cheating England in the world cup but invading (or reclaiming if you're Argentinian) the Falkland Islands way over in the South Atlantic.

Dexy's Midnight Runners, Skinhead/Ska, Two Tone or New Romantic, The Jam...

My brother has a chapman stick and it is very strange!  Apparently it's got a rather long and complicated explanation as to how it's tuned and how it's played.  I have a guitar as it's somewhat simpler!

Hi,

Sorry if it's been suggested before but I think it would be great to have a chat room as well as the excellent forum section.  Imagine all of us like minded but induhviduals in real time debate!

Ah, the cut and thrust of reasoned argument descending into name calling and hissy fits!!!!!

Which war had the best soundtrack?

WWII
Korea
Vietnam
Falklands
Desert Storm I
Desert Storm II

blimey, roger what a bargain, i should move!

Alvee, I wish i had an answer for you but hey, that's life!  There are many unexplained things in life such as... why is country music so popular?  Why deep fried mars bars?  What exactly goes into a kebab?  Actually i probably don't want to know!

What a great idea! You could have The Jam with your sandwiches (jam being jelly in the usa)
you could have Korn with cornflakes in the morning
you could have  Bread with bread
the possibilities are... running out fast!

Here's one for y'all:  when I was a kid, Sunday night was bath night.  First bath then downstairs to be towelled dry by parents.  When we got too old for towelling, it was ironing night.  In the background there was always folk music - The McCalmans, Silly Wizard, The Broadside Band from Grimsby, The Chieftans, The Bothy Band, The High Level Ranters, Roy Bailey, June Tabor...

Now, 30 years down the line I find myself drawn back to these traditional bands/singers and how wonderful these traditions are.  Hopefully my children will pick up on some of these old things and realise that music doesn't have to involve beating the crap out of your instrument of choice (my son is into screamo)!

Anyone else remember anything similar?
