Zurf,

Just wondering are you using a G or a G/B for this song. It kinda gives it a kinda unique sound. The G/B to the Am7 sounds cool.
The G/B is the same chord as the G only the 6 string isn't used and use the B note on the 5th string for your bass note. I just leave my pinky planted on the 1st string third fret when switching from the G/B to the Am7.

Just a note, that Neil Young will be the Muscial guest on the Tonight Show  , Friday Night smile

I been thinkin alot about Kenny lately, we were good friends smile  We lost him to pancreatic cancer about 7 yrs ago. Everytime I do a gig I get emotional and think about him alot. He come home and spent some time with me before he died. I played him some John Prine and Steve Goodman songs and it really pleased him.
I played the song the " Dutchman" by Steve Goodman at my daughter's wedding shower and was cruising along through the first verse and chorus great, got to the second verse and my voice was quivering and by the third I was in trouble. It was really weird it was like a huge wave hit me with emotions, I had to excuse myself and went outside to compose myself.

I have 2 friends that have passed on and really liked all the old music I play and it is tough not to think about them when playing I am gonna have to try thinkin of them while practicing and see if I can channel it into some positive vibes.

Nela,
I would see what the model # is  The Simon&Patrick are pretty good guitars for the money the showcase series are the upper end for their line. I would be careful buying a used 12 string look it over real good in the bridge area and look down the neck and where the neck joint is.
I was looking at a used 12 string at a local pawn shop and asked the gal if I could look at it. I noodled around on it for about 2 minutes and the pawn shop owner come over and took it out of my hands and said I had played it enough. I was gonna make an offer on it but instead instead of giving him a lesson in manners I haven't returned. That was about 2 yrs ago and I aint goin back anytime soon.

Sorry folks,

My friend forgot to bring the Zoom recorder along so all I had to use was my wife's digital camera. Hopefully next time we will be better prepared and organized.

Howdy Phil,

I like the slowed down version, it doesn't seem as rushed and I think it flows nicely and seems to come together better. It is a nice piece either way smile

MKM

Ok I watched the video you like, what she is doing isn't that difficult she is using what I call a chop and you hit the strings on the way down and palm mute at the same time and you can increase and decrease your muting like on upstrums. A girl that was very good at this told me when she started she would do the verses with the chop style and on the chorus she would let the notes ring. You can get a very good percusive sound and it is not that difficult. She is kinda of arpeggio picking at times on the upstrums which is kind of a note a time. You can do this and it is easy to get a good rhythm going once you get the hang of the chop.

I am fine thanks, and I will give a report of how the night went in Southpaw's thread. I was joshing a little about being nervous. Our open mic is getting to be pretty good so I am kinda fired up. I am hoping the guy that is playing with me gets  a good recording. I will post it if he will share with me. I haven't played with anyone for awhile so I am very excited.
What makes me nervous is using other's PA equipment so this time I am taking my acoustasonic for my guitar and vocal and my friend is bringing his amp. It makes me feel at home when I have my own stuff.

I don't know what songs I will do but looks like.

1  Don't Think Twice
2  Sunday Morning Coming Down
3  Last of the Hobo Kings              My wife's request, can't argue with her, I will be giving credit to Old Doll before I play it.
4  One More Cup of Coffee
5  I'll be Your Baby Tonight
6  The Dutchman             My Wife' s Request    I still remember the Waves of Emotion that come over me the last time I performed it . Kinda Scared

7   I have lots of others if they don't kick me out by number 7

Anyway when I start playing the set list always changes so we will see if I stick to this or not smile

It's been months since I have played out and I am playing tonight at the local open mic with a young fellar half my age. He is such a great guitar player and so confident I feel kinda dumb worrying about things. I like to play without a music stand and lyrics . Seems the older I get the lyrics is where I stumble. I guess if my memory banks lock up , that's why they call it open mic smile

Here's one of our local guitar players doing what I think your talking about with no picks. Jeff Troxel is a great player and a very nice guy too and has given me some tips on some do's and don'ts.

Please don't take this wrong but I would try to get fluid in your playing style and work on some finger picking patterns and this could be a goal down the road but when your singing and paying attention to chord changes and trying to keep your music tight there is alot going on here smile

Heya Amy,

I played this song a few times then went to Youtube and looked. From my ear the best the song sounds is fingerpicking with no thumbpick just flesh on strings and fingerpick parts of the song and strum some also. Here's a video where she is doing both. Other than the intro she is mostly just following the chord progression. I also played it with a thumbpick palm muting but I think you need the notes ringing. You can do it smile

Hello Amy,

I use to play this song and my ex sister in law would sing it. I played it differently in different parts of the song but for the most part I would use a down strum and then on the up strums I would kinda pick single notes arppegio like, for the lead in I would just use one down strum then do the down strums and single note up strums. I was using a flat pick.

I will play it a few times and maybe come up with some Ideas smile

Heya Amy,

I am really interested in this, getting good audio quality is really tough. I have tried a couple of different cameras and tried some that have mic inputs also with mixed results. If the video quality is ok it would be really nice. I have been recording with audacity and then not using the audio from my camera and just using the video but it's a hassle and not very portable.

Hello Everyone,

I visited the local guitar store yesterday and played a few tunes with a friend that works there. We are going to play at the local open mic  on friday night .

Anyway he showed me a Zoom video and stereo recorder that he is going to record with. It looks pretty neat, the video quality isn't the best but he claims the audio is great. If all goes well I will give my review of it. Getting good audio recording is a hard thing, my friend is a young rock and roller and he has used it with a band and they were playing loud loud and didn't have any distortion problems.
The unit sells for about $ 250.

Thanks alot everyone,

It was just a thing that has bothered me for awhile how our greedy banks and credit card companies try to shove credit down our throats. The young folks today have had this forced on them to keep the big economic wheel turning. My fathers generation was very cautious borrowing money if any and my generation got the credit card business hummin. The young folks now days don't have a chance.

There I'm done preaching smile
